Poor Italian Trattoria & Ristorante serves Vancouver, British Columbia. Poor Italian aims to make authentic and affordable plates of Italian cuisine that would be at home in a fine-dining restaurant. All pastas are hand cut and made to order in house. Additionally, all meats, vegetables and fruits are sourced from local suppliers to ensure freshness. At Poor Italian, diners are continually treated to new surprises from its rotating seasonal menu. All the dishes are bright, vibrant and reminiscent of southern Italy. Popular items include the jumbo scallops with limoncello demi-glace, as well as the roasted sablefish, which is seasoned with Mediterranean salsa, sea salt and lemon. The portions are filling, but diners should save room for dessert, because Poor Italian is well-known for the Sicilian cannoli on its dessert menu.

For a higher end Italian restaurant I expexted more. I ordered the linguini with seafood and found several clams that had not opened were included in the dish (a big no-no). Also, there was some grit in the sauce likely from the shellfish not being properly scrubbrd. . So the kitchen, which was very busy was not paying as much attention as they should. The service was pleasant and attentive but the kitchen took forever to get the food out. Two of my guests that were drinking wine were given a glass on the house to make up for the delay. Myself and the other guest whom were not drinking were not offered anything which I thought was shortsighted. This is my third visit to PI and unfortunately the other two were not stellar experiences either (not bad but not outstanding either). I will be finding a new Italian place to patron in the future as I don't feel I get value for money spent.

We had an early reservation for 2, but were 1st seated in a dark corner of the restaurant. We asked and were reluctantly moved to a slightly better table. This turned out to be not so great either as a large group subsequently arrived and we had to re-arrange the seating to accommodate. The service was polite, but not well informed. The servers did not know too much about the menu, and their knowledge of their wine list was pretty limited, offering no real informed options or feedback on recommendations. My partner ordered the Scallops and Prawns and I ordered the Veal Piccata. both were adequately prepared, but there was really nothing special about them, either in taste or presentation, the portions were adequate for the price. We shared the antipasti plate, which was good, and adequately portioned. One the meal was over, we felt rushed as the table was hurriedly cleared and the bill presented very quickly, with the server hovering to get the transaction completed even though there were no guests waiting. It was an adequate meal, nothing went horribly wrong, but nothing was exceedingly good either. Basically just another run of the mill Italian place. There is better and cheaper out there.

We had a great birthday celebration dinner. All of meals were tasty and we would go back anytime. The service was fantastic too.

Tony Parsons has a gem of a restaurant in East Vancouver. The staff from the hostess to the waitress are wonderful. The food was fantastic, my wife and I were celebrating her birthday. Nothing was wrong with the service or the food. Absolute gem of a restarant.

Had heard good things. Service was prompt and friendly. Baked Lasagna was nothing special and was served barely warm. For the price very small portion of veal and half of it was almost rubbery to chew. "Crispy" gnocchi were like burnt tater tots. This was disappointing as restaurant was not that busy. That being said, eggplant parmigiana was very good and Tiramisu was amazing.

My guests & I had a Fabulous Dinner, everything was spot on. My veal scaloppine was to die for, the gnocchi was the best I have had for a long time. The staff is so wonderful. This restaurant is on my hit list to go to whenever I get a hankering for good Italian food

Had a great time Friday night with a group of ladies. I have been before and so it was an easy choice to return. We had a hard time selecting our dishes as the menu is chock full of great choices. The wine selection was great, the service was excellent and food fabulous --- we will be back!
