This is my second time at the Allis, and to be honest, I'm not impressed. I had an afternoon tea set for two to celebrate my boyfriend getting into medical school, and both the quality of the food and the service at the Allis failed to impress me.
1. Food:
- the scones were horribly dry, almost like a biscotti.
- the eclairs were stale. It was supposed to be a mint chocolate eclair, and I could barely taste the mint.
- the green, St. Patrick's Day cupcakes looked...cheap. There are so many more classy ways to make a themed cupcake, and putting a disgusting amount of green food coloring in the icing of a cupcake is the least of them.
- the tea: my Ruby Oolong was nowhere near finished brewing when it was first brought to me, and the waiters did not tell me how long I should wait before serving myself. Also, it is bad idea to have no description of the tea blends on your menu, no knowledeable waiter to describe your tea blend to you, AND no box of samples to smell. I am here for tea, and I can't believe that there is no way I can know what is in "mushroom hero" before I ordered it. And not to mention, I was very disappointed when I saw my tea coming in tea bags in a pot. Hmm, I might as well go home and make my own tea. This instantly made the Allis one of my least favorite places for afternoon tea in this whole city.
2. Service:
- The waiter asked us if we wanted milk or lemon for the tea, but did not provide us with teaspoons to stir our tea.
- The waiters constantly reached over to serve things on the other edge of the table rather than walking around. Unprofessional.
Great spot!
Service is excellent !! but they have very limited choices (2) for vegans in the menu and one of them is a side dish
Great place for bringing friends out of town, clients, family.
This place is a hidden gem and I love it. I will definitely be back.
Beautiful restaurant. Very limited menu. We must have looked at the wrong one online or something. I am vegan and not picky at all. If there is an option - I am ordering it. It’s odd they have a vegan dessert but on the menu all they have listed for vegans is a shishito peppers app and a side of brussel sprouts. Both were great. No one ever has a vegan dessert so that was awesome - but I feel like there should be one vegan dish on there. Even if it’s something easy like pasta. I will say though that I was happy they accommodated a pizza with no cheese so that was awesome. I say I was happy because they had to ask the chef first if he was ok with it. He doesn’t like modifications I guess. If he wasn’t - I would have left wanting to chew my arm off. :) I’d go back for drinks and apps for sure! Waitress was very nice :)
My friend and I went to Allis for afternoon tea and it was wonderful! The tea, food, ambience, and everything! I would highly recommend.
Very sophisticated setting, yet comfortable and welcoming. We had lunch there and menu was interesting. Everything was fresh and delicious. Wait person very accommodating . Looking forward to going back. We sat next to Jane Lynch at another table. Felt like we were in New York
The staff is very friendly and helpful with dietary needs, but they may forget to come back to you to give your your check:) The ambiance is very laid back and quiet.
Everything was perfect.
My first time for dinner at The Allis, the environment is amazing, the room is beautiful, but more importantly, the service was amazing and the food was delicious! Great Job!
Went here for a birthday brunch & it was wonderful. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was adorable. Would definitely recommend.
Always love my experience dining at The Allis! Great food and great ambience. Service is usually on top of everything as well!
We went for afternoon tea. The service was extremely slow. During that time (about 1 1/2 hours) we had THREE waiters and all of them were slow. They were also very skim with the tea sandwiches.
Great cocktails, beautiful setting. Went for brunch and food was good too.
May be my expectations were too high after reading all the great reviews, but I was so disappointed in this place. Food is below average
Worst service, terrible food. All around miserable experience. Second straight time this happened here. I’ll never go here again. So many better places in the West Loop.
It’s was amazing but I will say service not too great..
Terrible experience. We were served inedible food and the service was horrendous. I will never be back.
The ambiance was great! Very cute and trendy. Our waiter Brian was so nice and helpful. Our food was just ok but we had great wine.
Super chic! So clean. Great drink and food options!
Beautiful ambiance. Unfortunately, the waiter was extremely inattentive.
Gorgeous space, good food, great service. Afternoon tea is a must! We went for restaurant week & were not disappointed. Will definitely be back!
I liked it a lot. good food, service, ambience, flexibility, etc.
Excellence at its best!!! Thank you and yes I will return
Celebrated my husband’s birthday with daughter and son-in-law over brunch this past Sunday. It was our first time at The Allis. We had a fabulous experience from the ambiance ,service to the food. I ordered tea and commented on the beautiful teapot that my water came in . Our waitress mentioned they have tea time daily from 2-4pm. As we were leaving our brunch we saw many people having tea with delicious looking baked goods. We’ll definitely be back for that!
Amazing brunch in a gorgeous setting! Went with girlfriends and everyone thoroughly enjoyed what they ordered (avo toast and breakfast wrap were standouts...also the breakfast potatoes were delish!). The ambience is just perfect and I would highly recommend for both brunch and afternoon tea!
Food is way overpriced. Salad is nothing but leaves with vinaigrette. I would not recommend for dinner.
Visited for lunch with a coworker. We had plenty of leftovers. Food was amazing!
We went for restaurant week and, even though the place was pretty slow, our food seemed like it had been sitting under the heat lamp for awhile. They definitely needed more wait staff on. But the half off bottle of wine on Tuesday’s was great!
Love the vibe and ambiance. We chose their restaurant week menu, which was outstanding with the exception of the pork belly, which was entirely too fatty. The octopus salad and bronzino were phenomenal!! Service was very good, although there was a change in servers just as dessert was served and we waited over 10 minutes for our coffee. Overall fabulous. Would love to go back again.
Food was good though a bit overpriced. Service was really lacking.
The warm octopus salad had a very heave sauce that overpowered all of the ingredients. We couldn't finish it. The rest of the food was okay, but generally too salty for our taste. The mixed drink menu was all of eight items with no other list. If you knew what you wanted they could make that though.
The volume of the music made it incredibly hard to have a conversation without feeling like we were yelling at eat other. This was upstairs in the restaurant area; the lower lounge area was actually pretty good. In hindsight we should have just gotten a sofa and relaxed down there.
The most redeeming part of the experience was our waiter. He was on top of his game, and kept our water (which we drank a lot of) topped off and checked in just enough to not be overbearing. That's the only reason this place gets two stars.
A casual lunch out with my wife we were in the area and had never been here before. The atmosphere was nice, the server was good and the food was very good!
Went for high tea. Ambiance and teas are amazing, but that was it. Service was slow and they seemed annoyed. We had to ask where our tea tier of food was and waitress apologized for that not being put in her order. The food was sub par. I was disappointed in the food and experience. Would not return for high tea maybe just drinks at the bar because hopefully they can’t mess that up.
Wondering if there is a new chef. Menu changed to all a la carte and my favorite halloumi and charred cauliflower was very mediocre.
An immense amount of salt in the food.
We really enjoyed our first time at The Allis and will be back! The banana bread was great and we all loved the brunch dishes we ordered. The Egg’s Benedict Royale was one of the best salmon benedicts I’ve had. The only issue was our server wasn’t very attentive and we sometimes had to ask for something (coffee, bottle of sparkling wine) twice. However the server who took over for him was really great! Definitely recommend going here!
Loved the atmosphere and set-up of the space! I had the avocado toast which was great with the added spice to take the flavor up a notch! Also, they had oat milk as a substitute for coffee which I appreciated!
The Allis is a dreamy restaurant with a great quality of food, nice ambiance and location. Love my experience as a whole.
