Pond House Cafe Ratings and Reviews
The food and service were both excellent, as they have always been in the past. The food was high quality, nicely prepared and quite delicious. The portions were also generous. The booth that we sat in was spacious, comfortable and very relaxing. It was a very enjoyable meal!!
We had a delightful time, my daughter-in-law, baby granddaughter, and I. The staff was extraordinarily courteous, helpful and tolerant of having a small child. It is great to have a place that is welcoming to small children, assuming their behave, to help them begin the dining experience and LEARN how to behave and enjoy. THANKYOU!!! We loved, loved, loved the hot ginger tea!
We had dinner at the Pond House Cafe on Thursday, November 9th. The food and service were excellent, as they have always been in the past. The food was high quality, nicely prepared and quite delicious. The only issue was that the seating that we had was not as comfortable as in the past. It was not very spacious and we felt a bit crammed in. I wish I requested to see if one of the booths in the main dining room or seating on the porch were available. The booths appeared to be available throughout the duration of our dinner and even when we were leaving, having an early (5:00PM) reservation. I am hoping that we could be seated in one of these locations next time.
Our food and cocktails were amazing and our server was very friendly. The hostess came around and made sure everything was good. There was a long lag between ordering our dessert and delivery, and we had a show to go to, but otherwise, the timing was great.
I had another fantastic date night with hubby! Was greeted by hostess and quickly seated. The staff was attentive with impeccable customer service. (We ran a little late due to trick or treaters!) Started with delightful raspberry blood orange martini they created . Those were followed by the crab cake and salmon entrees! Both entrees served with roasted Brussels sprouts, sweet potatoes and a variety of other seasonal veggies. Enjoyed nicely paired Malbec with dinner. Awesome selection of delectable eats can't to try them all. Next time we will leave room for one of the incredible desserts! Left smiling- can not wait to return!
We had a great surprise last Sunday when we arrived to celebrate my wife ‘s birthday and experienced the Halloween menu and decorations! The wait staff was dressed for the occasion as well! The attention to our needs was spot on and done smoothly. The candle in my wife’s gingerbread cake was greatly appreciated. Thank you for a delightful and memorable experience. We will see you again soon.
The server was very nice, but it took 35 minutes to get our drinks and even longer to get our food. She forgot to bring back the check to our neighbors, stopping by to ask if they needed anything and that’s when they asked if they could have their credit card and receipt. She was very apologetic, but wow., I hope she is new and just learning.
My issue is that there was no acknowledgement of a birthday that I mentioned on the Open Table Reservation. We ordered dessert and I assumed it would have a candle on it. I was with my date constantly and couldn't ask during that time. Next time I'll bring it up with the host. The reservation was perfect otherwise.
Once I made it passed the hostess stand my experience was delightful. The wait to see the hostess was almost 10 minutes and there was some confusion surrounding our reservation. After I was seated with my party, the server was very nice and attentive, and the food was as we ordered it.
Absolutely a great find in Hartford. Drove from New Haven to the Pond House Cafe for our Anniversary dinner and the staff did a great job to make us feel at home. Apps, food & drinks were great. Nice table with a view. We are certainly coming back soon.

We brought guests visiting from Ireland for a visit to the park and Sunday lunch/brunch. They were delighted! The food was delicious, the service very personable and prices reasonable. I've been to the Pond House several times and knew it wouldn't disappoint.
My husband and I had an early dinner at the Pond House Cafe in West Hartford, Connecticut on Saturday, October 14th. We have eaten both lunch and dinner at the Pond House Cafe in the past and have always enjoyed it. The most recent meals that we had there were nicely prepared, of high-quality, very delicious. The service was also excellent. The atmosphere was quite comfortable, very relaxing and quiet. We enjoyed both the short ribs and the Pond House Burger with fries. The Halloween decorations, which were both inside and outside, were also quite impressive. We highly recommend this restaurant for a great meal in a very nice atmosphere and beautiful location in Elizabeth Park. We definitely will go back again.
Last minute Friday night, and we were able to have an excellent meal, attentive service, relaxed atmosphere and the ambience for good conversation. Fellow patrons all seem to feel like it’s their own special place.
We really enjoyed a creative Kale Caesar salad and fish. We hope to go again soon.
Loved the Halloween decorations inside and outside. California Grilled Cheese sandwich was good. Wish I had known it had mayo. Wasn't listed in the description, and it detracted from the taste. French fries were greasy. Unfortunately, our waitress was very inattentive.
The Outdoor patio-seating (when the weather is nice) is lovely. They should remove the umbrellas after dark since they aren't needed and block a view of the sky- Or have a few tables without umbrellas. The service is great. The food is great and presentation is excellent. I much prefer the outdoor seating to indoor. They have a event venue down the hall but it never seems to interfere with the service in the restaurant.
Used to love this place, but it seems to have good downhill in the past few years. The last two times I was there, they were out of the item that I had ordered, and did not find out about it until the server came back to the table with the tablet in hand for me to make another selection. I thought the purpose of the tablet was so the menu could be updated in real-time, thus eliminating items being "86'ed" without the servers knowing...
This time, the dining room was basically empty, but we were seated at a high-top right next to the kitchen door (read: the worst table in the house - especially since it is a challenge for my 86 yo mother to climb up on the bench). My fault - I should have insisted that we change tables, but it would have been more of an effort for my mom to switch tables once she was seated.
Food was just ok. Nothing exceptional, like it has been in the past. Even the menu seems less inspired that it has been in the past. I can get almost any of the menu items at any chain restaurant.
And, I almost burned my throat on the COLD ginger tea. It was ridiculously strong to the point of being uncomfortable to drink. I mentioned it to the server, and she just basically said, yeah, that is how it is sometimes. I had to dilute it with an entire glass of plain water just to drink it.
The hostess and the server were both very pleasant. However, I am in no hurry to go back.
