Pond House Cafe Ratings and Reviews
Sooooo good! We just had a special occasion brunch before a matinee show at Infinity Hall. The food was excellent and the service was exceptional. Noteworthy dishes: apple and brie omelette, Katz Deli omelette, and the special oatmeal raisin cookie crusted french toast. Linda, our server made sure we enjoyed our experience from start to finish. The cafe manager, Monica, went above and beyond to address a food allergy, allaying all concerns. Everyone in our party, from 30 year old to 87, enjoyed the food, atmosphere and service. Truly great start to a special day.
This was our second visit to Pond House. We very much enjoyed the small plates. It gave us the opportunity to try new foods and food we love. We will definitely be back. The specials that are offered on certain days are fun and simply awesome. The bread with oil and balsamic vinegar I could eat all day long. We truly enjoyed our unique bacon vinaigrette on our salad. The meatloaf is divine and we absolutely loved the flatbread. The drink selections are great too. I had a Pond House cocoa with a shot of Captain and it was awesome, especially with the marshmallow on top for a cold night! We look forward to returning for yet another date night and trying something new.
Ordered the kale and brussel sprout salad with chicken. The salad was drenched in the dressing, and under the chicken was a large mass of the dressing that hadn't been mixed in. It was served in a bowl that made it impossible to mix it. I was able to eat only 1/2 of the salad. It was a busy day, given the holiday, and our wait person was gone for long stretches of time, didn't come to refill water glasses, or hot water for tea. It will be awhile before I'm interested in returning.
This was our first Sunday Brunch at the Pond House though we've gone for dinner several times. We were celebrating a recent family wedding with the happy couple. The service and food were outstanding, the noise (we were seated in the larger function room vs. the dining room) was mitigated by the drawn curtain separating the room (a plus); our guests were in from NYC and loved it. The server happily took our photo in front of one of the Christmas Trees (love the holiday decor!) before we left. Ideal experience!
The atmosphere with the holiday decorations were beautiful.
We love the Pond House - but I have to say this visit the food was mediocre - just overall the flavors were not as good as in past - i ordered a burger with cheese and bacon - the bacon was overlooked and the melted cheese was not melted.
I had loved this place for brunch, lunch or dinner, but lately service and food has been off. Food arrived barely warm, cheese omelet with cheese not even melted, cornbread frozen in the middle. Everyone friendly, but amateur hour, as though it was their first time working this job.
Very disappointed, especially having told my guest how great it was.
This group of friends gets together once a year between Thanksgiving and Christmas. We always come here even though we live all over the state. It just works well for us and no one bothered us about the fact that we were there three hours. Finally left when the lights went on!
I had the Salmon Nicoise which had all the key ingredients but...wasn't put together in a flavorful way. All ingredients were ice cold. Salmon should have been warm at least. Potatoes were cold. Should have been dressed separately. My guest had a grilled cheese. The plate came with no salad on the side (as requested) but should have had SOMETHING to dress up the plate. The dessert, a flourless cake with berries was not appealing and came with 4 blackberries only. This dessert uses 4 ingredients only but yours was drab and dry. I've made desserts for restaurants for 24 years. This was a disappointment.
Have come here every year for Holiday Lunch with a client. She loves the Pond House. Food is very good and atmosphere is great. Love the décor. However I would say our service this year was fair. Waitress was unable to answer our questions on a couple of simple things that she should have already known. Also she was not very attentive - and we were there early so it was not busy.
So nice! I bought a groupon and had to use it on the last day, our hostess was great, every person who worked there was beyond friendly and made us feel like old friends, the food was great, (I recommend the nachos and the crab cakes) a glass of wine and some mac and cheese with my 6 and 3 year old, never felt so relaxing on a weeknight. :)
The food was quite good but we waited longer for our waitress than anywhere else we've gone in recent memory. She greeted us shortly after we arrived but didn't take our drink order. We waited quite some time for her to return to take the drink order (iced tea and water) then longer for her to return with them. We had to wait an exceptionally long time for her to bring our food.
The food was really good but the overall visit left a lot to be desired because of the service.
As always the food is quite good but the service LACKS We waited for our table for 40 minutes. Way too long. Then we waited another 20 minutes for our server to take our order. Salads across the table came out at different times. Food however was very delicious. We enjoyed our osso bucco. We are long term patrons at the Pond_House. Food is always good and service always lacks. I guess we have come to accept that. There are too few wait staff. Good value with BYOB
Although our meals were very good I can’t say that we had an excellent dining experience like last time. I wrote reviews on both Open Table and TripAdvisor about our excellent dining experience last time and even for times before that. This time, I specifically requested a more spacious seat, both through a special request to the restaurant on OpenTable and when arriving, even arriving earlier than 5:00PM. Fortunately and thankfully I made a similar request which was accommodated for last time. However, this time I was told that they were booked and they could not let us sit at a table that could hold more than 2 people because they had to make sure they reserved space for parties with 3 or more people for later.
I could understand if the request could not be accommodated this time, at the time we were seated, based on what we were told. However, during the time that we were there, the four tables that were nearby to us, both to our left and to our right, which all had the capacity to hold 4 people, only had 2 people at each of them. All 4 couples arrived after us, and one couple even said it was the first time that they were ever at the restaurant. There even appeared to be open tables available that could accommodate just 2 people during this timeframe. I don’t quite understand what happened this time. Perhaps I didn’t make my request clear enough. I even made the reservation early in the week and for an early dinner time, 5:00PM and arrived early, about ten minutes or so. But I guess if we go back again, it will have to be at a less busy time.
The food and service were both excellent, as they have always been in the past. The food was high quality, nicely prepared and quite delicious. The portions were also generous. The booth that we sat in was spacious, comfortable and very relaxing. It was a very enjoyable meal!!
We had a delightful time, my daughter-in-law, baby granddaughter, and I. The staff was extraordinarily courteous, helpful and tolerant of having a small child. It is great to have a place that is welcoming to small children, assuming their behave, to help them begin the dining experience and LEARN how to behave and enjoy. THANKYOU!!! We loved, loved, loved the hot ginger tea!
We had dinner at the Pond House Cafe on Thursday, November 9th. The food and service were excellent, as they have always been in the past. The food was high quality, nicely prepared and quite delicious. The only issue was that the seating that we had was not as comfortable as in the past. It was not very spacious and we felt a bit crammed in. I wish I requested to see if one of the booths in the main dining room or seating on the porch were available. The booths appeared to be available throughout the duration of our dinner and even when we were leaving, having an early (5:00PM) reservation. I am hoping that we could be seated in one of these locations next time.
Our food and cocktails were amazing and our server was very friendly. The hostess came around and made sure everything was good. There was a long lag between ordering our dessert and delivery, and we had a show to go to, but otherwise, the timing was great.
I had another fantastic date night with hubby! Was greeted by hostess and quickly seated. The staff was attentive with impeccable customer service. (We ran a little late due to trick or treaters!) Started with delightful raspberry blood orange martini they created . Those were followed by the crab cake and salmon entrees! Both entrees served with roasted Brussels sprouts, sweet potatoes and a variety of other seasonal veggies. Enjoyed nicely paired Malbec with dinner. Awesome selection of delectable eats can't to try them all. Next time we will leave room for one of the incredible desserts! Left smiling- can not wait to return!
Pond House remains a favorite restaurant, especially for Halloween brunch! The menu is delicious and creative. Their omelets are always fresh and the service is impeccable. Highly recommend anyone in the West Hartford area to dine in the beautiful Elizabeth Park before or after a nice walk!
