Pomodoros Greek & Italian Cafe-South Ratings and Reviews
We've eaten lunch at Pomodoros many times. There are a few menu favorites we return to: their Classic Italian sandwich and gyro are very good, as is the spicy salmon wrap. This time my husband returned to the gyro. He needed to request extra tzaziki sauce, and then it lived up to expectations. I branched out and had the burger sliders, which were delicious. The server had said their kitchen couldn't cook the burgers medium rare, as they don't grind their own beef. But when they came, they were pink inside, very juicy and flavorful. The addition of pancetta and provolone ensured an Italian flair that was delightful. Service was good, if a little slow. The server didn't understand how Open Table works, and our reservation was cancelled while we were sitting there. It took several days to get that straightened out and our points properly credited, but it's fine now.
Good ambiance, varied menu with both Italian and Greek specialties. Presentation of each dish showed a lot of care. A thin piece of salmon was overcooked, lamb chops (3) came rare, medium and well done. The order was for rare. All other dishes were quite tasty and enjoyable. No vegan options are available on the menu, but the kitchen prepared a veggie and pasta dish that was lovely. The setting is quite comfortable and we will return to taste more of the dishes on the menu.
My wife's Spinach-Parmesan risotto that accompanied the delicious sockeye-salmon (perfectly cooked as she asked) was "the best risotto ever tasted". Likewise the Chicken Nostimon was excellent. We enjoyed the Spinach-Artichoke dip as a starter, but there were so many tempting appetizers that we'll need to return often to try them all.
Server was knowledgeable and we appreciated the thoughtful consideration of the owner stopping by the tables to inquire about our meals.
We have visited many times. Dinner, lunches and Sunday brunch have always been excellent. Pricing is vary fair and the feeling is upscale but comfortable in any style dress. We especially have enjoyed being able to frequent more often and stretch our dining-out budget by taking advantage of the Tuesday $10 entree specials.
We eat here on a regular basis. Service this one day did not meet expiation. The food as always was very tasteful. It was 35 min . until our salad had arrived. When speaking to the manager on this day. We were told there was some miscommunication and he did apologize. We have never had a bad experience. So i guess 1 out of a million is not bad. We will continue going there weekly.
We were on travel in Ashville to take our daughter to school. We were staying close to the airport and needed a place for dinner. We looked on OpenTable and this appeared. At first it was an interesting mix to say Italian and Greek as we love both. So we decided to try it and LOVE that we did. The food was amazing and the prices were so reasonable. We had the Saganaki. It was very different than I had ever had but incredibly delicious. My wife who is not a huge saganaki fan, fell in love! I ordered a Caesar with dinner and my wife a house or maybe greek salad. Salads were good. Caesar was light dressing but good. Bread also came out on the table. I am Gluten Free but my wife said it was very good and came with Olive oil dip. I ordered the Wild Salmon and asked for Sautéed Spinach. My wife had the Chicken Pasta. My Wild Salmon was a 10. cooked perfectly and great piece of fish. The Sautéed Spinach was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. My wife loved the chicken pasta. I tasted a piece of Chicken from it and it had great flavor and was cooked perfectly. The service was perfect and they came and checked on us and made sure our drinks were full. The prices were extremely reasonable!!!! We felt like we had a perfect meal in every way and the restaurant was a nice ambiance.
I always enjoy my dining experience at Pomodoros. When looking for a place to take guests for a quiet dining experience, it's one of my top choices. The food is always excellent, portions are just right, and service is very good. I would have preferred some mint jelly with my Easter lamb special, but that's just a personal preference. Good choice of entrees which are always very tasty. Never had to wait to be seated, a real plus in my book. Keep up the good work!
Two friends and I enjoyed an early dinner at Pomodoro-South and had a wonderful dining experience. Our waitress, Cora, was attentive and knowledgable. I had a delicious beef filet special which was served in a stack with potatoes and spinach. I had wine, dinner, and dessert and coffee. The dessert was a delicious bread pudding. The only negative was that the potatoes were a bit too cool (the temperature) for some reason, but I actually didn't mention it to my server, who would likely have corrected the issue. I will visit the restaurant again since I had pleasant dining experience before our movie that evening.
The food was good, the service was really good, the ambiance was just enough without being too loud for conversation to happen. The only criticisms I have are in regards to serving size for the price and our table location. We sat near the entrance to the patio and it was SO COLD. Our party of 4 wore coats the whole time. Also, our mushroom ravioli was so good but at $14 or higher, and only 6, I thought it was a little high. The dessert was good especially the baklava ice cream.
This restaurant offered beautiful atmosphere. We were seated immediately upon arrival. It is a cozy setting with comfortable ambiance. The server was friendly and attentive. The wine list had nice choices. The nice variety of food choices on the menu was delicious.
I am sorry to say but this certain day was not a regular great pomadoros day. We was sat with no menus and then waited 20 minutes to be asked what to drink. Then waited another 30 on salad then 10 more for food. Seems like the staff was stressed on an early morning.
I always enjoy myself when I eat at Pomodora's--in either location. It easily becomes a favorite neighborhood place to gather/eat. The food is excellent. The service is warm and friendly. The ambience is attractive and comfortable. Pomodora's is a great place to meet friends.
My family and I ate here on Christmas Eve, and we had a lovely time. The food was great, in nice portions (especially for Italian--they don't give you huge, overwhelming plates of sauce and noodles) and fresh. Our service was wonderful and we were grateful for all their hard work on Christmas Eve. Thanks for a great time!
Group of six (from work) for lunch under $150 (with 20% tip) and everyone loved their meals. I could stop there, right? Home cooked and better than I can make it at home, so even though it's not tiny plated pretentious loud foodie Asheville, you too will love eating here. Booths are comfy; carpeting and wood take care of acoustics; ingredients were fresh. Only hitch--our Open Table reservation led them to reserve 8 for the bar. Fortunately, only 6 could make it so they accommodated us in a booth (cozy but workable), but that was strange. I'm sure there's a space in Open Table to specify "my group wants a table," so maybe that was my fault, but I did not think we would be given bar over table. Server was very thoughtful and professional. In sum, dining out as it should be.
We were looking for a place to have Italian while visiting Asheville. Saw info for Pomodoros online. Nice atmosphere, good service. Unfortunately they ran out of special I wanted (mahi). We had a pork dish and spaghetti & meat sauce. Both were served hot and freshly made. Good taste and quality. Look forward to returning on our next visit.
Excellent service. No waiting. The waitress was very patience as I changed my order several times and also went back and adjusted my bill when I suddenly remembered I had a gift card. The young lady didn't sign or seem perturbed, just very willing to help us out with a smile. I will go back.
Pomodoros was a disappointment. While the service was very good, the food was bland and overcooked. My father ordered the eggplant dish & it was so overcooked he couldn't eat it. I got the pizza which had way too much garlic & not much else. There are so many better choices in the area that we won't waste our time going back to Pomodoros.
We planned on visiting a few other restaurants in the area, due to our party size and late decisions, we ended up settling on Pomodoros. They were very accomadating to 2 handicap, elderly folks in our party, which can always be challenging.
The waiter was very experienced with the menu and taking orders and providing great service.
The menu featured a mix of Greek and Italian themed dishes.
The falafel was done well as was my pizza, I'm not going to comment on what I thought of the pizza, as tastes very wildly. I'd order it again, it's not the thinnest crust, though it's definitely not thick either. The lasagna dish looked well done as well...what I really wish I had gotten was the Salmon over the risotto.
Looking forward to next time!
My husband and I are always looking for a good lunch spot with not only good food but also a pleasant atmosphere. Pomodoros fit the bill. The steak and pepper sandwich with a side of tabouli and the lamb gyro with a side of eggplant fries were all very tasty. We had been averse to trying the restaurant because it has a "chain" vibe but it isn't that way in reality. Our server was friendly and helpful without hovering. Next time we will give it a try for dinner.
I find Pomodoro a great restaurant for many reasons. A place where you can have a conversation with your companion-not noisy like so many others. Food is good quality and prepared very well. Prices are reasonable. Can have lots of variety but menu is not like a novel. Hope you stay around. Doris Kickham
