About Pomodoro Rosso
Pomodoro, at 229 Columbus Avenue has been a neighborhood favorite for years. The beautifully prepared Italian classics and excellent service has earned this restaurant a loyal following of Upper West Siders. Beige walls adorned with decorative ceramic plates from Italy, a ceiling trellis with hanging grapes and red and white-checkered tablecloths evoke the feeling of an authentic Italian trattoria. The street side outdoor café is the place to sit and enjoy a glass of wine and savor the antipasti while watching the people stride by.

Pomodoro Rosso Ratings and Reviews
Everything about our evening for two was excellent. The food included fresh, handmade pastas; the salads were crisp, plentiful and varied. The service was personal and completely geared toward pleasing us (which many servers eagerly did) and the environment was homey and down-to-earth.
Food was between ok and fine (not spectacular, but as expected for the price), and there was a pretty comfortable "feel" to the place (e.g., pleasant buzz, a friendly greeting from the maitre d', the whole red checkered tablecloth thing) -- but I can't remember EVER being in a place so crowded and cramped, which significantly detracted from the experience. There was extensive choreography required just to stand while we waited (a bit longer than we should have) for our table while dodging the wait staff and customers coming and going -- not to mention finding our way to our table and then, God help us, to sit down at it (which required folks at the next table to get up). If it sounds like this was the defining feature of this dining experience: it was. If they reduced the number of tables in the place by just 10 or 20%, it would have been a totally pleasant meal.
Pomodorro Rosso never disappoints. Between its friendly staff and its tasty Italian cuisine, it's one of our go-to spots before an evening at nearby Lincoln Center. The pasta is always tasty and the portions are ample (perhaps too ample); the House Montepulciano adds a nice, and reasonably priced, glass of red wine to the meal.
My husband and I have dined at this restaurant many times and the food was wonderful. This last time was different, perhaps a change in the chef. Both our dinners were not good. My eggplant had not been peeled before cooking, the sauce was heavy , very disappointing.
My wife and I have eaten here numerous times and we LOVE the food, service, and ambiance. The Patio is lovely, although obviously you have to put up with the occasional loud New Yorker walking by...but you get that everywhere in NYC. The bread they serve is incredible. My wife LOVES their mussels and the pasta is always so fresh and DELICIOUS!!! It’s also an amazing price!!!
Pomodoro is that too frequently overlooked but absolutely necessary terrific neighborhood restaurant! The food is traditional and unsurprising BUT delicious and so completely pleasing and the welcome so gracious that you walk away after dinner thinking how grateful you are the restaurant has been so satisfying every time!!!
We sat outside alfresco and indulged in a beautiful wine and pasta. The pasta was authentic, the seafood fresh and the servings plentiful. Bread came out when sat down along with water which was topped up regularly throughout the meal. The waiters were friendly and attentive. Highly recommended for a casual bite to eat pre or post show or anytime.
I was there with friends, one of them had the Bday. The food was delicious, our server was attentive and polite. We had dinner at 6:30 so not too much guests were around us. The restaurant was perfect for this fiends get-together. The young woman who had the Bday got her cake with candle on. I would highly recommend this cozy restaurant for any occasion.
Food was really bad and not cheap.
Also, I made my reservation through Open Table, told the manager that, and for some reason was still logged as not attending the restaurant. I had to contact Open Table to tell them what I ate and spent so I could obtain my points while also showing the restaurant I didn't bail on them. Really bad food though.
