The rest of my party was very late and the place was packed, but Peter was calming me down and letting me know “the table’s not going anywhere. I’m not worried, so don’t worry about it.” I’ve always enjoyed PR, but the service on such a busy Saturday was extraordinary. I can’t remember ever having a manager that polite with a fully-booked dining room in NY before.
Nice little Italian restaurant with good food and wine list
I must remember that the portions are immense. If I order the calamari appetizer I will not be able to finish the main course or have room for a delightful cannoli with my cappuccino. So I took home half my fresh pasta main course (Spaghetti Polpette) and enjoyed a large lunch the next day.
We love this place. The food is consistently delicious and top quality. The owner, Peter, is extremely warm and accommodating. He always makes us feel so welcome. The best Italian in the city.
We love going there. We’re lucky that it’s right in our neighborhood.
Ellen & Les
consistent good italian food, good wine, beware of consistently unsavory margaritas
Food always good and service was excellent.
Don’t eat at this neighborhood place on evenings when the owner is no there. The kitchen appears to be unsupervised and turns out dishes like mushy frozen shrimp and overcooked fish drowning in sauce, raw potatoes, and overcooked veggies—cafeteria food. The staff is very friendly but somehow not able to cope.
When there is supervision, it’s a neighborhood gem. But we’ve had too many bad experiences on other evenings to make that mistake again.
In this case, no one checked once we were served, and no one was around for us to signal to. Offering to replace a dish when the plates are cleared? Too late! The item was removed from the bill, which was appropriate, but it’s about the experience.
The food was amazing. Their sauce is so tasty! Shrimp and scallops were delicious. The staff took great care of us even on marathon Sunday! They were attentive and welcoming. I highly recommend their restaurant.
A very special experience!!! I love Pomodoro since I ‘ve lived in Nyc, in 2013!!!!
Love this place. It was packed but the food and service was excellent.
Great service and good. The owner took personal care of us.
Food was uneven. Cod fish special was great. Pasta with filet mignon was not great
One of our favorite restaurants! Ask for the filet of sole with cashews; and the tricolor salad.
Great food and convenient to the Beacon
Lovely Italian restaurant. The service was great. Accommodated some special requests related to Gluten Free options. The pasta dishes were excellent and the sauce was delicious. Would definitely go back,
We very much enjoyed the food — it was excellent. It was a bit crowded — our table was almost on top of the next table — but not usual for a fine NYC restaurant. After our mean the owner (we assume) came over and asked how every thing was — nice touch. We will definitely be back.
"I love the elegant feel of this place – a comfortable dining room nicely served.. I definitely would return to try more dishes. The brunch menu is amazing. So far any dish I tried was amazing specially the egg dishes for brunch. Service was well-timed and friendly, drinks are awesome."
Have been eating here for years. The service warm, and the is food consistently delicious!
Great place to enjoy Italian food. It’s warm and cozy. The pomodoro sauce is so so good
Good food, good service.
Great food, good vibe, very enjoyable for a casual delicious Italian food!
Went with a group of 5. We were a bit squished in front room but the offer of a table in back was not taken as it was even smaller. Overall we enjoyed, however we ordered 2 things off specials, and they were not really as we expected. One was fried zucchini flowers with stuffing. I have had in Italy and elsewhere but these were just very darkly fried blobs, could not taste the flower at all. Secondly, a pork milanese. 3 of us ordered this, envisioning a thin crispy fillet like the veal. We even asked re preparation and were told yes. In reality was a thick pork shop, flattened a bit but not the crispy coating we were expecting. And it came with fettuccini alfredo which they had not described. Perhaps would have asked for a different pasta...in any case. It was fine but watch out for the specials.
Great service and good food. Great location for shows at the Beacon.
Somehow, new staff member wasn't as well trained yet, as the wonderful ones are, but we can overlook it, this time. We've never had a bad meal at the restaurant and never had poor service. Wish that patrons would realize that not everyone is interested in their loss conversations and cell phone talk, We there to enjoy, to eat and not have to shout over some loud mouths. This is not the restaurant's fault, just now and then some very rude people.
Tasty food, good service but we had to wait too long to be served our main courses.
Excellent food but very tight seating.
We were welcomed warmly and offered a choice of seating, even tho it was a saturday evening and it was very busy. The food was delicious and plentiful. The staff, from maitre d’ to waiter to cleaning crew, was friendly, helpful, patient and the whole experience was utterly delightful!
Great neighborhood restaurant. Went on a Saturday and the crowd was enormous -- we ate outside, so the noise level was adequate. Server was very helpful and pleasant, food was delicious.
A neighborhood gem. Outstanding food. Warm but professional service. It is always consistently terrific
We had wonderful food. Service was quick to get us off to our show on time.
Pomodoro is my go-to place for dining before the opera. It is comfortable, unassuming, and the food is consistently excellent. My major concern is that as others discover it's brilliance, I will no longer be able to get a table. TJL
I've lived in the neighborhood for years but never tried Pomodoro Rosso before. My loss. The food is wonderful and plentiful. My party of three required some extra help and the most accommodating maitre d was up to the challenge. We had a reservation for 8:00 PM on a Saturday night so the restaurant was extremely busy. One of my group wanted to sit outside so I asked the maitre d if he could change us to an outside table. He looked and said it would be about 15 minutes. We said fine. The third of our group arrived and nixed the outside idea. So I asked the maitre d about inside tables. Our reserved table was taken but he had one that was just finishing. So there we landed. I have never experienced such outstanding service! I look forward to many more delicious meals (and hopefully less drama) at Pomodoro Rosso.
Lacking some better spirits this time, unfortunately. Waitstaff is always the best, very efficient and attentive.
Wonderful local place I should have discovered years ago. I've been there 3 times in one month and never disappointed. Good food, service and reasonable wine offerings.
Good food and great service. We've been here before when in NYC.
We have eaten here many times and it has always been delicious but this time, we this time we were disappointed. My mother ordered a veal dish and the meat was not at all tender, like it had been cooked for too long. My brother ordered the fish special and he thought it was okay but not very flavorful. I ordered a pasta dish with lobster and other fish and the lobster was overcooked. Everyone else enjoyed their meals immensely. It is still a good restaurant.
Yes, but the noise level was too much from a large party and they should have been in the back, not in the front area. Thanks.
It's great again! This neighborhood gem is once again a gem, with the cooking restored to its former quality. Fish dishes are consistently fresh and well seasoned, with good sauces and sides. Pasta and chicken, as well as artichoke, are delicious. The kitchen is always at its best when the owner, Peter, is there. Go and enjoy dinner!
Nice neighborhood place. Sadly our pasta dish was tasteless. And at $31, disappointing. We also ordered mussels in red sauce which did not come with a bread for dipping. Had to ask and then wait for bread. Negronis are always perfectly made.
Delicious dinner once again at Pomodoro. Our favorite neighborhood restaurant. We highly recommend!
