Staff was so nice to my daughter and her friends. Thank you!
Unfortunately we ordered a special entree that was offered with Pasta, Crab, scallops in a supposed pink cognac sauce that was advertised on the board for $37.00. First the bread came to our table practically frozen, the food came out in a hurry and when eating the scallops were brownish color and gritty, there wasn’t a piece of crab to be found on either plate and the sauce wasn’t a blush sauce. When we finally got the attention of the waiter to tell him, he asked the chef and we were told that the crabmeat was white so we probably didn’t notice! Well both of us commented and said we know what crab tastes like and there is none! He said they were going to take off some money and when the check arrived the bill was higher than even anticipated. The crabless, gritty scallops and white sauce ended up being $47.00 each entree. They literally took off $2.00 each entree bringing it to $45.00 each. Absolutely poor customer service and we will never eat there again.
WOW! This was our 3rd or 4th visit to Polpo and these guys absolutely crush it every time. The server was awesome!! And of course the food..... OMG. I had the osso buco (2nd time) and it was dynamite.
I'm really impressed by these guys and the entire staff. Front of the "house", the back on the "house" ie kitchen staff, everyone. Just excellent.
And I LOVE that they are open in the off season at the shore. I mean I place like Avalon is dead, dead, dead in the winter. But they are staying open and they are slow so GO SUPPORT THEM! You won't be disappointed. First class, guys. Seriously, great job and thank you!!
Great spot good food good service worth a trip
The food was great. Valerie really made the experience special. She was hilarious and was a great server.
food was cold, chicken parm was chewy. bathrooms were disgusting.
Overpriced special was a “surf and turf” and they didn’t serve any surf. When I asked about it, the server said he got the special wrong. Ok, no problem but the special then resembled a existing dish in the menu…but they tried to charge 10 more for the wrong special?
Always a good experience at Poplo- whether it’s mid July or December! Valerie once again provided amazing service!!
We were a party of 7 at 7:45. Our service was outstanding and so was the food. And we didn't feel rushed to leave as we were the only ones still there at 10:00.
We went to Polpo for Christmas Eve dinner and we loved it! Valerie and Señorita were our servers and they were lovely. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was wonderful. We will definitely be back!
We had a great dinner
The food was wonderful. Samuel the server as very knowledgeable
Service was terrific, Valerie was very pleasant and efficient, Food was exceptional, veal marsala was very good as was the flounder.
While the food was very good - a little salty, the service had some slight issues with timing, but the big problem was the pricing on the specials. We were not told the prices for the specials and were shocked when the bill came they were considerably higher than any other item on the menu. $22 for fried burrata (vs. $16 for the most expensive appetizer on the menu) and $45 for flounder francese (vs. $37 for the most expensive entree).
My husband & I have dined here numerous times & each time we've enjoyed our meals & the friendly service. Appetizers & entrees are well-portioned and we leave very satisfied (and yes, it's BYOB). To note, we've seen some very demanding (sometimes even obnoxiously rude) customers but Polpo's staff always met them with grace & patience. That says a lot in my book as well.
Wonderful meal. All 3 dishes were excellent, perfectly seasoned and plentiful. Service was excellent. Highly recommend.
My husband and I decided to have dinner for the first time at this restaurant after a restaurant that we frequently go to was booked for the evening. We were very pleasantly surprised and delighted that we ended up at this restaurant. The service was very good and the food was exceptional. We had grilled octopus special salad of the day along with the veal special of the day and lobster ravioli. We ended with a tiramisu and a lemon gelato which were both amazing. We had such a wonderful night and we decided to book a reservation for New Year’s Eve
We have always LOVED Polpo’s. Absolutely one of our favorites.
Great food and great service!
Food (salad, sea bass) was heavily salted. Obliterated subtle flavor of fish and was an unnecessary addition to an otherwise simple arugula and tomato salad. Service was adequate
great meal ! plenty of it too . cant wait to return
Well managed with great food
I've been here several times and each time is different. Food is consistently good, but service is spotty. The host was clearly more interested in what was happening on his phone rather than tending to the waiting guests and the waiter seemed like he wanted to be home and no interest in engaging the table.
The waiter and host were not up to their usual standard but the bus boy made the night.
Great Bronzino dish with artichoke and capers!! Super Caesar salad. Fresh ground pepper would have put it over the top. Nice service in spite of being very busy. Always a great experience with fantastic food.
The food was delicious. Only issue was a loud wedding party in half the retaurant.
Would definitely recommend.
We went on a Saturday night and sat outside. The waiter (or the guy that just takes your order)He asked if this was our first time here. It was our first time. I would think that if we are there for the first time you would want to be nice. That was not the case.
We had stale bread. We order a appetizer with cherry peppers to find out afterwards when it came out and we were eating it to realize that there were no peppers. He forgot to tell us. He walked past our table a dozen times and not once did he even ask how is everything or do you want another glass of water. The restaurant was definitely not busy. Also it took forever for our food to get out. He never stopped and said anything. I will not go back.
Everything was great except it took quite awhile to get seated even after checking in & verifying our reservation.
We had a great dinner here. Two diners were gluten free and they accommodated them nicely. Both had gluten free pasta that was delicious. Neither had any issues after the meal, which is not always the case when trying to eat out when gluten free. The service was kind and helpful. Highly recommend.
Bad experience. Wait staff had an attitude and were very inflexible.
Polpo is one our favorite restaurants at the shore. Their food and service are always outstanding. This evening was no different. Our dining experience was great.
Just perfect in every way
We dined here in late September on a weekday, knowing nothing about the restaurant. It was one of the only restaurants open with outdoor dining options. We were pleasantly surprised by the attentive staff, outdoor ambiance & tastiness & value of our food. We will be back!
Fabulous food, wonderful service, and a happy buzz of a full outdoor dining area made for a special evening.
Polpo use to be one of my favorite restaurants in Avalon but the value/quality has really slipped over the past 12 months. We had to wait 45 minutes to be seated even though we had a reservation. It took the waiter 30 minutes to see us after we were seated and then after ordering it took nearly an hour to get our food. Additionally, the value offering has really declined. We were charged $72 for 3 plain Penne Pasta's for our daughters, no sauce, and then when we ordered a jumbo shrimp cocktail, 3 sad little shrimp came out on wilted lettuce which we promptly sent back.
Very disappointed all around
The service was bad. The waiter was rude and uninterested. The food was luke warm.
The bread was stale. It took forever to get our food after we ordered. Very disappointing!
Love it. One of our favorite restaurants!
From the moment we arrived we felt pressured to order our food before we were ready. The waiter kept coming by and not giving us ample time to review the menu. When we asked if we can just place the appetizers… He said no everything has to go in at once. We eat out often… And we have never been told that by a waiter. The restaurant was not very busy and felt there was no reason for the rush job. When we asked to please space out the delivery of our appetizers and dinner because we felt like we didn’t want to be rushed… He totally ignored it and brought our dinner out anyway. Our reservations were for 7 o’clock… And he had us out of there by 8 o’clock. Obviously he wanted to be out of that restaurant early and didn’t care what his customer wanted. Also…unfortunately the restrooms were in need of some cleaning and care. We would give the Food a 5 Star… it was very good. But…some attention to the other things that make a restaurant good needs some attention.
Reservation honored quickly, service was good, meals delidious. And outdoor seating was comfortable.
Food was just average. Service by Valerie was excellent. The only flaw was the decaf cappuccino, which wasn't decaf and kept me awake.
