Went here on a quiet Monday in the fall and the restaurant did not disappoint. Food was great, excellent selection on the menu & the specials and impeccable service. It's a lovely atmosphere for a date night or a family dinner.

We always enjoy this restaurant but were a bit surprised this time to see that a 20% gratuity was automatically added to the bill for our party of 4. Our server never pointed it out so I would suggest if people are dining there, they check their bills before paying. We ended up giving a $110 tip on a $230 check. Shame on us for not catching it but shame on the server for not bringing it to our attention!

Food is delicious. Our table was outside and it wasn’t crowded when we arrived but definitely was more crowded then we had hoped.

one of the personnel had her mask below her nose for the entire time we were there and was at our table several times.

It was concerning. Other than this, the food was great.

The good was the service, very attentive but not intrusive. We ate indoors and it was set up great. The apps were very good, filling and a great value. Now the bad. The mains were disappointing. My wife ordered veal picatta, a classic dish with lightly floured veal sauteed in butter and EVOO with fresh lemon juice, often served over pasta. Since we have cooked this ourselves and had it at their sister restaurants she just saw the title, Veal Picatta, and assumed this was the classic dish. Instead, what came was not at all what veal picatta should be and it was inedible. The veal was pale grey with no hint of flour, butter or seasoning. I tasted it and there was no hint of salt, pepper, butter or lemon. And, to make it more bizarre, it was smothered in sliced mushrooms. The server was pleasant and took it back to the kitchen to have them "fix" it and it came back with more lemon that only added to the strange lack of other flavors. The server offered her another entree but my wife was so turned off that she declined and he appropriately took it off the bill. My dish was a butterflied pork chop Milanese. The pork was done nicely, moist and well seasoned. The arugula and tomatoes were perfect compliments. The only complaint was that the breading was thicker than the meat! It was so crunchy that it made for an odd chew. But, it was still a good dish. Hopefully this was a COVID problem, new chef, or a bad night? We have dined here, and at their sister restaurants, and enjoyed the meals. But, this was disappointing.

Waited 40 minutes to be seated even with a reservation. Once at our table we waited another 15 minutes before the waiter showed up. No attention to detail. Had to ask for water, bread, and utensils. Never saw the waiter once we finally ordered. Food was 7 on a 1 to 10 scale. Value was a 4. Nothing came with the main dish.

We usually enjoy the food there and will definitely go back. But for the price that we pay it is ridiculous to have stale bread and butter in diner foil wraps.

My husband and I had a wonderful dinner at Polpo. The chicken milanese was delicious: thin but juicy served with arugula and fresh tomatoes. The bomba was a real treat. Good polite service and a lovely outdoor table made for a perfect summer night dinner.

Very nice outdoor dining experience. Food and service were excellent. Its a little pricy for a BYOB but worth it due to the quality and preparation of the food. I had the flounder special that was deliciously prepared. Service is also excellent. Highly recommend the Polpo outdoor dining experience.

We love Polpo! We go there whenever we are in Avalon. The food is fresh, imaginative and creatively served. Their sauces are amazing. The wait staff is informed, polished and friendly. The outdoor seating is beautiful. The trendy black awning with lights and all the flowers make for a great dining experience. It's my favorite restaurant in Avalon :)

I now know why reservations are hard to get! The service and food were both fantastic. We tried a variety of dishes, they were all amazing. Given the outdoor dining restrictions we are all facing to keep everyone healthy, you may need to unexpectedly wait a little bit especially if a rain storm has rolled through. But it's worth the wait and Polpo does an excellent job managing through all the challenges. Our ability to have outdoor dining here in Avalon is a blessing--Polpo has a great set-up. Highly recommend!

Portion size was really small. I had the langastinos . They look like they were put on a diet. Really skimpy. I’ve eaten then before and these were just very skinny.

Earlier in the day it rained and despite wiping down of tables and chairs we were seated right below an awning. Lots of dripping. Asked to be moved. Got moved to another table under the same dripping awning. Weird?

Service was great. Everything was good, except the bread ( of all things an Italian restaurant should be perfect at) was terrible. It was stale. Disappointing. My arugula salad on the other hand was awesome. So mixed bag at this place. 3 ppl for dinner at a byob should not be $165. Steep and kind of not worth it.

BYOB! We had reservations, we were promptly seated. We were able to choose our table however, in hindsight, I wish the hostess would have just seated us because as the sun set, it was right in our face - and she would have known that - and I did not think about it at the time. We started with the the calamari and a brussels sprouts appetizer, both were mediocre (wouldn't order again). But our dinners were delicious! My son had lasagna bolognese, daughter had the pasta special which was homemade caramelle pasta stuffed with 4 Italian cheeses, topped with scallops and shrimp, and my husband and I both got the halibut special topped with crabmeat. One negative is that our fish was overcooked which dried it out, but it was served in a light sauce that was delicious! But for $44 each, it should have been perfect! Our desserts were also great, tiramisu, lemon sorbet, dream bomba & cappachinos. As soon as we stood up, the hostess came over clearing the table as we stood there gathering our things and pushing in our seats...the extra 20 seconds for us to leave the table would have been nice. I know there were people waiting, but she could have faked a little consideration and not have been so abrupt about it. We would eat here again but couldn't give 5 stars.

Food was delicious as always but the service was really top notch as well. During current times with Covid 19 long waits (even with reservations) and a drop in service has been the norm when we go out. At Polpo, we were seated immediately and the service was fantastic overall. Well done guys.

The food at Poplo is quite good. Entrees and daily specials are expensive. Be certain to ask the prices of ALL the specials before ordering. Neither entrees or entree specials include sides of any kind.
On the day of our reservation we received an email from the restaurant indicating our reservation time had been moved back by 15 minutes. That evening we arrived on time for our reservation yet waited an additional 25 minutes before being seated. The restaurant had obviously overbooked the number of reservations for the evening which was not a pleasant experience for many of the patrons including us.
