This was my first time brunching at Policy. The atmosphere was great and the décor and overall cleanliness of the establish was excellent. The meal was great and the mimosas were too! Probably some of the best that I've had in DC. I would've liked the staff to refill my bottomless mimosas more frequently, but other than that, it was great. The staff was friendly and wonderful!
Glad I tried it, checked off list, doubtful I'd ever return. Drinks were tasty but with rail alcohol the quality wasn't there, especially for $12.
The staff were nice and readily available to provide service. It was an early dinner so the place was not very busy yet, but growing in numbers. Nice set up and lots of room and big window onto 14th Street. The food came out quickly, was made fresh, but was relatively bland. There seemed to be a couple sauces used on multiple dishes and they didn't add much to the food. There were a number of vegetarian items, and I appreciate that. Had hoped for something more.
The new chef has created a delicious and very interesting Latin-American inspired small plates menu. Lots of innovative dishes.
The food was solid, the service, however left something to be desired. One of my friends burger never came, and we had a hard time flagging anyone down to get it squared away. They didn't really seem to make an effort to correct the situation (it didn't come for 20 plus min after we had already started eating.) On the plus side, the mimosas were perfect.
Policy was amazing! I loved my waiter and the Cabernet (Tom Gore I believe) was great! My boyfriend and I had the strip steak (mine was medium and his was medium well) and it was cooked to perfection. We were not rushed or anything. I would give it a 5 if the vegetables were not so salty. Either way the service was amazing, the food was good, and the atmosphere was great. We'll definitely be back 😊
Say outside very nice but he service wasn't as good
Food was amazing!! Our waitress crystal was so helpful and super sweet. The shrimp and grits were perfect by far the best I've had.
Overall good experience at Policy. Surprisingly the noise level was low and the place wasn't as crowded I thought it would be for brunch. The food was decent but thought the brunch menu didn't have enough sweet options. The Mimosa deal was good though ($15 for bottomless with 2 hour limit).
Made brunch reservations almost a month in advance. Due to crazy traffic during Memorial Day weekend, we were about 40 mins late but we were still seated immediately. We both ordered the chorizo skillet, which was great. We also had the bottomless mimosas which you could decide if you wanted orange juice w/ or w/o pulp. Waitress did a great job of making sure our glasses were always filled. We also ordered the biscuits but those were quite disappointing. I'll definitely be back next time I visit DC.
Can't beat $15 bottomless mimosas and bloody marys! And the service was great, even for a large party like ours.
Overall, this place is great. It's a bit loud, but has great food and great drinks. I definitely recommend the bottomless Bloody Mary's or bottomless mimosas for Sunday brunch. Britney, our server, was great throughout our visit. I definitely recommend this place if you're in the area!
Good service, good food
The staff was really friendly and courteous. The food was phenomenal. Not over priced. We asked the waiter for drink recommendations and were not disappointed! Everything was perfect. Such a cute spot. Everything was just a little bit different without being too much.
Very good food. The small plates can end up being pricey if you are a little hungry, but food was good.
Absolutely great food, we went early on a weekend and had an awesome tapas dinner. Seems like the bar scene would pick up later on, but for dinner prior to going out I would definitely recommend it. We didn't have anything we didn't like!
I love everything about Policy.... except the loud music and noise level. But the food is always good, the servers are always friendly and the mimosas are always full. I always find my way back to Policy for brunch every now and again. It's affordable and reliable.
I just love this place. The food is good and reasonably priced. I've only been there for brunch but will try and get there this summer for dinner bc the dinner menu looks just as good.
The atmosphere seemed to be lacking and the music was very low near the Windows. But my reason for writing this review is the awful service that we got and the attitude we seemed to receive not only from our server but also the hostess when we were finishing up. Our server wasn't friendly and seemed to be agitated with us when we wanted to order anything from him. It looked as if he was the only server on the floor which could explain why he failed to check our table or take our drink orders promptly. The food was good, but the lack of respect is definitely what will keep us from coming back again.
Loud and energetic place . small portions. Service was so so.
Everything was great, but couldn't hear the person next to me.
I had dinner here at 6pm on a Thursday night. My party of 4 were the only ones in the restaurant so the service as compared to amount of customers seemed to be slow. The dishes are made to order so the food arrives at different times. The taste of the food was great. I went here with a crowd of 40 - 50 year old business colleagues so probably wouldn't go again with this group. Nice place for drinks after work or night out with the girls.
Went for Sunday Brunch. Service was subpar. I ordered the Policy Breakfast...the "thick" turkey bacon was charred Oscar Mayer, eggs were runny, and the potatoes were cold. I would not recommend this for weekend brunch.
Brisket and egg and cheese sliders were good.. Wasn't as big of a fan of the lamb ones.
Four of us shared plates at a 6:30 dinner and had plenty of time to eat before an 8:00 play. We selected many of the vegetarian entrees, including the cauliflower, beets, and wheatberry salad. The shrimp and grits was a big favorite as well as salmon curry. We loved the pinot noir. We all had fun sharing the plates and trying many different flavors.
We thought the plates were so much bigger than that at other small plate restaurants. We will return.
Recently went to brunch at policy, food lived up to my expectations, but service was really lacking, or i should i say my waiter. he must've went out the night before cause he was severely lagging. I had to ask for more mimosas several times, i started to think i was guzzling. i think for bottomless mimosas i had 3 glasses, doesn't really sound like a bargain for me :-) seemed to pay more attention to larger parties and left those 2s to fend for themselves. My friend had to ask for napkins twice, and never got her second drink. and im not pety, i still left 20%, but if he would have done his job, he would have received at least 30%.
Service was good. Food was really bad. Never had sliders that are so dry
Everyone involved did an amazing job with our party of 16.
This was my third or fourth visit to Policy, but the first time in at least 3 years, so I was concerned that it might not be as great as I remembered. Fortunately it was! Friendly, attentive service, a nice variety of items on the menu and everything we ordered was well-prepared and very flavorful. It's a place where you want to savor, not just eat 'n run.
Food was good. Service was good. Just way too loud.
Overall a good place to have brunch. I mean who can pass up $15 unlimited mimosas. The crab Benedict is a winner.
Great food! Loved it all!
I was unimpressed with the quality of the food and the server was unpleasant despite our best efforts to make her feel comfortable and appreciated. This restaurant definitely won't be around for much longer.
I arrived to Policy on a Friday night with some co-workers after work. We were seated right away (as we were one of the first diners to get there), and immediately our waitress came over while two other waitstaff came over and poured water.
I ordered the Kentucky Ninja which was good but I thought tasted a lot like a Margarita just with less liquor. It was just kinda okay. For starters, we ordered the fries that were served ketchup and black truffle mayo. VERY GOOD! I smacked on that throughout the whole meal. Then I ordered the Indian Buttered Chicken served with Coconut Rice. A lot of color made up the beautiful presentation. The rice was creamy and seasoned along with the chicken. The "buttered" sauce was richer than I imagined buy it was still good.
The bill was under $200 for 6 people; 3 of which ordered alcohol and I thought that was pretty well-priced for the food and service quality of Policy.
I'd like to come back for brunch next time.
Overall it was a good spot with decent vibes. Took a while to get service. The food was okay but loved the drinks.
Great food, enjoyed the unlimited bloody marys, a little loud depending on the others around you. Would recommend!!
I organized a Galentines Day brunch for 12 of my friends. Policy was the only place that would accept such a big reservation even though it was far in advance. We had a lot of requests / issues that could have been problematic (people arriving late, having to leave early, some wanting bottomless, others not drinking, etc.) and Policy could not have been more accommodating. Brittany, our waitress was fabulous and friendly, regularly refilling our bottomless drinks and even taking pictures of us at request. She was super kind about our extra person (that arrived late) and was an absolute saint about splitting our checks. We couldn't have been happier with her and the food and decor were also great. I highly recommend a reservation at Policy for a big group brunch!
We went here for my 30th birthday with a group of 10. The staff was very attentive and the food was brought out when it was ready versus waiting for the entire table's order to be ready which was nice since you are supposed to order lots of plates and share with your table. The food was outstanding, but pricey for the portion size so I would only come back for special occasions. the lounge upstairs was fantastic - quiet before 11pm so you have a chance to talk and then a full on club after 11pm with a great floor for dancing. Bottle service/table reserving isn't needed if you get there before 10:30pm.
The unlimited mimosas made Policy a must do for Saturday brunch. For $30 we left full with a nice buzz. Win win!
They asked us to leave because the next party was there even though our 2hrs for bottomless mimosa wasn't complete.
