Paul is the best waiter ever, the one you should ask for.
The restaurant is located in The Diplomat Hotel. There is a nice vibe when you walk in. The atmosphere was nice, high ceilings and a bar in the middle. Not too noisy though. Our table was awkward because we were at a booth with a small round table for two and another large table for 5. So it was a little cozy when another party was seated at the larger table. The food was outstanding - the tuna tartare and warm artichoke salad were great starters. The fresh grouper was cooked just right and the fresh linguine and clams was also very good. I recommend it!
We were at happy hour for oysters and ceviche and we take the yellowtail fish boneless all were excellent.
The ambiance is gorgeous! Food is wonderful. I highly recommend and would return.
Amazing, loved it!
Great clans and fish stone crabs a plus. Great atmosphere side dishes excellent and service was very good.
Business lunch. Noise level made it difficult to talk.
The restaurant is beautiful and our server Paul was amazing.
Paul provided excellent service and provide a great recommendations highly recommend him if you have a chance
Very amateurish bar service. No martini glasses so served martini in a champagne glass. Ran out of Citron. Not off to a good start.
The appys were good but the snapper main was tough and tasteless. Heard the burger there was good but seems absurd to go nto sea food place for a burger. Nice ambiance but for the price would not recommend.
I was so looking forward to visiting this restaurant because I like the Iron Chef.
Although the restaurant was not packed, we had to ask for our server after 5 minutes. Beverage service was slow to say the least and took 4 trips for 3 people??? The martini I ordered was like a half portion at any other local restaurant.
They served cornbread and compound butter that was good but greasy. We ordered Caesar salads which had the best dressing ever but the lettuce was so large it needed to be cut which caused the bowl it was served in to rock.
After a long wait our entrees came. 2 were pasta with clam sauce but 1 was of normal size and the other was like a half portion. I immediately told the waitress who agreed and took it back to the kitchen. She came back 4 minutes later and said that the chef said it was the correct portion size and that I should order something else. I chose the scallops because I knew that they only needed a light sear and I thought it would be quick. It was not quick but it was delicious.
What a shame...
The fish was over cooked and it’s replacement was marginally better. We found it noisy and unpleasant. We went there because it was on the ocean and all the windows were shuttered.
We love seafood and the menu here is amazing BUT BEWARE!!
We ordered the special 5lb Red Snapper but the chef killed it - over cooked - meat like rubber.
Server said the manager says he’s sorry so we asked her to have him come speak to us directly (we already could tell he really didn’t care if he wouldn’t come over himself)
He came over a little while later to agree that it’s easy to overcook stuff on their grill cause it’s real hot. Then offered us dessert which we declined and that’s that.
$400 down the drain due to mistraining , a too hot grill, poor management, etc. BEWARE!!!
Very disappointed in everything.
Why have a restaurant by the water with the window shutters closed during the day so there was no view.
Ordered the lobster roll, lobster meat undercooked and tuff, served with frozen french fries.
Also ordered Cobb salad. Just fair.
Server did not know to bring serving spoon when sharing salad. Had to ask.also asked for a roll or bread and was brought oyster crackers. Really.
Had to pay 18% gratuity that was added to bill.
A little pricey for poor service.
The maitre d was overwhelmed and tried to dissuade patrons with reservations from dinning there. Not a good start but our waiter was excellent. They were obviously understaffed but he Gave us excellent recommendations and the food was spot on.
It was ok, not to my liking
We appeared for our reservation and were told they did not have enough wait staff to sit us. After a 30 minute wait we were seated and there was numerous empty tables. A waiter Cameron our table 25 minutes later and another 30 minute to get water and drinks. The bread had string from a napkin Inside. When I complained about the bread nothing was done. Then over an hour to get food. Food is average . This place needs new management
We arrived to the restaurant without a reservation on Saturday, 2/17 about 7:15 and were told without a reservation we would be waiting until 8:30 at the earliest to be seated. I had just looked at open table in my room (we were guests in the hotel), to review the menu and saw there were plenty of openings for reservations, so didn’t bother making a reservation.
After hearing this from the hostess, we went back to our room (neither of us had taken a cell phone with us), made a reservation and returned to the restaurant, with the email confirmation in hand for our 7:30 reservation. It was about 7:20 and they sat us immediately.
Service was slow, had to ask for refill water, check, etc.
Which makes me think the restaurant had some last minute cancelled workers, the food however was amazing.
I’d return to eat the food again- but would expect the service to improve.
We dined here upon arriving at the diplomat hotel after experiencing an exhausting check in process. Our moods immediately lifted when our waiter, Paul, came over to serve us. His recommendations were spot on! We shared a mussels appetizer. My son had the burger and my daughter and I shared the whole fish. We had two side dishes-- Brussels sprouts and parmesean potatoes. We also had the cherries dessert based on his recommendation. We all enjoyed our food and would recommend this restaurant!
Great recos from the waiter and good food
The food was really good, great. Small plate options . The drinks were super expensive and the price was not disclosed for some drinks. I got the bill a nd each of my drinks were $34 each for a 12 year old scotch that usually is about $18 in most fine dining restuarants .
2nd time dining at Point Royal for dinner while staying at The Diplomat. Very disappointed with the service on this visit from the hostess to our waitress.
Very fresh and perfectly cooked seafood. We loved the ambiance and wine options as well. Will keep coming back!!
Very good food in a modern space. I started with Tuna that was a little Spicy but yummy and very fresh. Followed with
The lobster. Also delicious. My husband had artichokes and the whole fish which he loved.
I went on Valentines Day!!! My server couldn’t explain the different ingredients!! (What’s in the Food)
The wait for the food was horrible as well. Manager ended up taking care of the bill ( the least they can do ) and we ended our night short... Choose another place to eat. Nice hotel be they need help in the restaurant!!!
We were not impressed at all. The service was sub par. We ordered a seafood plateau and it contained 2 tiny (I mean tiny) little neck clams, 2 small oysters, half a small lobster tail chunked and 2 shrimp for $27. If rather pay more and get more & better quality food. The food didn't impress us at all. Had the beef Wellington with a tasteless au poivre sauce. The server didn't know the menu and we had to ask about the specials on a Valentine's day dinner menu. We were told our entree didn't include side dishes so we ordered potatoes and vegetable of the day as our sides. The server brought our food & sides that we ordered plus the sides that were already included with our dish. When he noticed we had too much food on the table he told us that out dish came with sides already contradicting what the waitress had told us. The manager did remove the extra side dishes from the bill. However for a slow Valentine's night the food and service was bad. If things don't improve i don't think this restaurant will survive.
My first reservation was over the phone then they lost it. my second reservation was with OpenTable but when I get there on time the table was not ready and I didn’t like the ambience and the style of the restaurant so we went to another restaurant across the hall called the monkitail which was good
Horrible service very disappointing!!
Ordered 3 appetizers, a salad, and a dozen oysters. got the oysters within about 15 minutes and then waiting an additional 45 minutes to get the remainder. At that point, 2 of the apps and half(?????) of the salad was brought out by a runner. We waiting an additional 15-20 minutes before we got the final app and then the other half of the salad (lol) never arrived. Saw the server maybe 3 times all night (although he did seem perhaps abnormally busy?-cant say for sure). Spoke to manager who was very attentive and helpful post meal. Will not be back and dont recommend unless they drastically revamp. Food was large overpriced given the quality and waiting an hour for 1/2 a salad is unforgivable in my book.
The food was delicious. I had the lamb chops and my husband had the dry aged steak. I wanted more lamb. The service was excellent. We will be back.
Small menu, great environment, fair food and no so good service
Great happy hour-very small tapas
Service was bad, waited an hour and 15 min for our food. Food was overpriced and way too salty!!!
Wonderful decor and adequate service. Food OK but not memorable. Small portions. Wine prices excessive, especially by the glass. Probably won't return.
Food was excellent and somehow exceeded by the service. Linguini and clams was outstanding. Cookies and ice cream desert is not seen on a lot of menus, but is a winner.
I had a birthday dinner with 7 guests. We enjoyed the drinks and food. We ordered and shared the ceviche, tuna tartare, crab croquettes, shrimp linguini, mussel platter, steak etc. Everything was delicious. Our waiter was very sweet and brought us a free dessert. We closed down the restaurant lol. That was my second time at Point Royal and i will definitely be back.
My husband and I went for his birthday and it was wonderful! Service was great food was great we will definitely come back!
We stayed at this hotel and loved this place, if i lived in Florida i still would make a point to go there.
Food took too long to come out. 40 minutes for a Caesar salad? Too loud in the restaurant for any business meal.
