Everything was great, the only exception was the noise level. The restaurant was extremely noisy.

The food here was wonderful! Everything was delicious and the ingredients chosen with care. Our server was a little harried and we had to ask for things (olive oil for the bread, grated cheese for the pasta) instead of receiving them automatically. But that may have been because they were busier than they expected. I have been there twice and both times I can not say enough good things about the delicious food. Even the anchovies on the Caesar salad were spectacularly flavorful. Yum, yum, yum!

Very good. Israel is a very charming and knowledgeable bartender.
Entree took too long to arrive considering that there were very few people in the dining room.
However, it was delivered with apologies and smiles and was delicious.

I had not been to Poesia for a few years. My last experience was so unpleasant I didn’t want to go back. The last time we were seated in the front part, which is dominated by a large table for eight in the middle. The few other tables in that part of the restaurant are situated around it. The group seated at the large table was so loud the rest of us couldn’t enjoy ourselves. But my new partner wanted to try it so I made the reservation. The group in the middle again made it hard to hear each other but got quieter after a while. However, this time the problem was the food. Mine was fine but my partner’s wasn’t completely warm. He sent it back and it was returned not much better. I would never let anyone talk me in to going back.

Marvelously warm and attentive service; authentic Italian cuisine and waiters from the region. Great suggestions from the staff helped us order exactly the right amount of food! We split three courses, and each had room for our own dessert— good planning!

Can't believe I haven't found this little gem before. Very authentic Italian menu, with a lot of vegetarian and vegan options. LOVED that they had a note to ask about their vegan options and really appreciated that they had a fresh homemade pasta that was also vegan. The place had a very cozy, fun ambiance , and they even project a Felini film on the walls. The food was a little slow to come out of the kitchen, but the place had that 'take-your-time' savor life European vibe. The only downside is that noise level is very high, but all of the other benefits outweigh that. We will return!

Lovely small restaurant, with great happy hour food and drink prices. The food was homemade, and they know how to cook and season... prices are excellent for the high quality dishes.

My review would have been a 5 if it was as good as it usually is, but, the waitress was a bit rushed we were crammed and I mean crammed into a corner table that was so tight my husband couldn't pull the seat out for me. my head was touching the big drapes that were up the whole time and I could not move up even an inch to get away from them, I didn't even realize there was a movie playing until I left, I could see nothing except my husband (thank goodness he's handsome) the whole meal. The meal, like I said normally a 5, but this trip a 3 my meat was over cook, well done fillet minon? I asked for it medium. I couldn't complain because we got one drive by is everything ok while our mouths were full, and then never again. my husbands meal was the only veggie option on the menu, it was good, but I have had the same dish at Bella Trattoria and it was amazing, there. I am hoping since it was a holiday maybe the Chef was gone, and or they were short staffed. we will try it again because it has been so good in the past.

Their menu is pretty limited, no poultry dishes to choose from. The staff seems inexperienced and somewhat inept. Considering the many other options in the neighborhood, I see no reason to return here.

Nice neighborhood restaurant with decent food and excellent service. Cozy and accommodating of dietary restrictions makes this a solid choice for an impromptu date night. Brace yourself for the extremely loud noise levels across the room on the weekend. Friday night found us having to shout across our tiny table to hear each other.

Absolutely superb! This restaurant gets better each year. On Saturday evening at 7 p.m., it was packed and filled with reservations. The wait without a reservation was 1.5 hours, so be sure to make a reservation. It is truly worth it. I would say this and Cafe Bisou are the 2 best restaurants in the Castro District.

We love Poesia. Definitely a neighborhood gem! The pasta has fabulous chew, Home made and perfectly al dente. The meats and fish are excellent, as are the apps and desserts, cocktails and wine! So many of the ingredients are sourced from Italy by the owner. All of the staff is friendly (and mostly Italian), and very knowledgeable. Adore this place, we return again and again!

Stumbled upon this restaurant--it's on the second floor. Good cocktails (perfect large ice cube in the bourbon on the rocks!) and wine list. The tomato soup was divine and the lasagna delicious. Romantic ambiance. Oh, and the service was attentive. Totally would recommend.

It's a very nice neighborhood restaurant with some okay, albeit heavy, food and a good location. It used to be more imaginative with a variety of interesting pastas and dishes. It's now become relatively small in terms of the menu. The fish and vegetable options, which I usually eat, are not as good as they once were. All of the vegetables are incredibly heavy on cheese, especially the cauliflower. The Caesar salad was okay but didn't have as good quality ingredients as nearby Lark nor certainly not as good as Contigo over the hill in Noe. The sea bass is a good value, though simply prepared and not especially interesting. Not nearly as good as Kokarri, for example. The chocolate dessert of pudding and salt is quite good, albeit a bit small. The service was a bit inattentive and not especially warm. THe host/owner is great. Nicely spaced tables and good volume level.

Pretty much the perfect dinner date! The filet mignon was absolutely incredible and done to perfection, and the lamb with lemon reduction superb. We started with the carpaccio - incredible. I think the best I've ever had, in fact! Franceso and his staff are the consummate hosts, and I'm looking forward to another meal there soon!

used to love love love this place. The owner (maybe previous owner?) was so pleasant and welcoming. Now it's "here's your seat".

Service was good, food was barely adequate. My husband had the pesto, it tasted bland but was green! I had a pasta that was OK, but too 'al dente ' for my taste - almost like it's been holding for hours back in the kitchen.

we won't be back. it's too bad - the Castro could use good restaurants.

Food was good, but service and extremely limited menu were downsides. Took over 30 minutes to put in a drink order, then a while longer to put in food. Didn’t hear the special until after we’d started ordering food. The restaurant was only maybe half full. You guys need more than one waitress and bartender.

The food was fine, if not a little bland. Couldn’t taste a lot of pork rib, even though there was a lot of meat in the sauce. Noodles were thick, chewy, and cooked perfectly.

Waitress was kind enough to bring my mom reading glasses after she forgot them at home.
