Always great food and friendly staff. It was the last restaurant I dined in before restaurants were shut down so it was nice to have such a great last restaurant meal.
Our waiter was excellent, forgot his name. Lasagna special was not so good. Overall food was small portions and was ok but not excellent. Pretty expensive overall for appetizers, dinner, drinks and dessert came to a very high bill. Great ambiance but won’t be returning.
Outstanding restaurant! Romantic ambiance and exquisite food.
I was not impressed by food. If you need have a dinner after workday and/or to drink glass of wine I would say this place could work for you.
We were the first party of the evening at 5:30. Everything was fine until the entree arrived and it must have been chicken left over from the day before. We were sharing the chicken dish and both of us started coughing as the chicken was so dry it was impossible to swallow. I never send anything back but this was inedible. The staff was nice about it and removed the charge but we did not have time to wait for another chicken dish to be prepared. We were three older women and I wonder if they thought they could get away with sub par food with us.
Very nice experience, but we felt it a little too expensive compared to the value received. Wine by the glass prices were way too high. Tartufo dessert was great.
Fantastic food, great service, lively atmosphere, and a bonus of Fellini movies projected onto the wall. La Strada was on when we went.
Great food and attentive staff. A smaller more intimate setting.
Staff is friendly and very welcoming.
Great ambiance and vibe- incredibly cozy and the perfect spot to sit and drink in the Castro since it’s Just a block from muni and the Castro theater. They have large tables for groups available or small quaint settings, perfect for a couples Valentine’s Day meal. The staff is incredibly friendly and their native Italian transports you to Italy.
In regards to food, it was overall pretty good. Nothing amazing but nothing bad. There were a few bites that were great but not noteworthy. One of our noodle dishes had great sauce but over cooked noodles while the other dish had great homemade noodles (cooked perfectly) but the sauce and meat weren’t anything noteworthy. I’d go again to give it another shot tho!
Excellent quality food and great place for friends and family!
To be honest I know the owner and bartender. That said it's still a gem of a place with great food and drink and a proper continental meal.
There are few remaining places in the Castro to have a decent meal. Poesia is one of the last. The food here is consistently good. Service is fine. Atmosphere is good.
What a wonderful night. The owner and staff made it so special and the service was excellent. The food was delicious. A night to remember.
Everything went perfectly during this visit. A recommended venue.
Excellent food and service
We had a late reservation for an after-theater dinner. We were greeted graciously and seated at a lovely table. We were at the tail end of the dinner service, but the waiter and staff were warm and welcoming. The burratta starter and beet salad were excellent -- beautifully presented, flavorful. The squid-ink fettucinni with shrimp and calamari was a standout. The lamb ragu and pasta was also fantastic -- with beautiful big chunks of tender lamb in the sauce. The waiter was knowledgeable and helpful with the wine choices. We will definitely return. So glad we found this place when we were looking for somewhere open late close to the Castro Theater. We look forward to eating here again even when we don't need a late seating. We recommend Poesia with enthusiasm!
The food is delicious and service excellent love this place very much
Phenomenal service and the food was amazing. Arranged for a large group for dinner and we were taken care of amazingly. It was a nice change from the SoMa / Financial District. Will definitely be back!
Poesia is always great. It’s my favorite restaurant
This is a genuinely local family place. The food is no more or less than what you'd expect, and the service and genuine warmth that come from everyone working there mean that we'll be going back again and again.
Best Italian food in the Castro! The food is handmade, consistently delicious and the service the best.
Excellent service and food is exceptional
Consistently good neighborhood gem.
Hair in pasta. Salty salty salty pasta.
New Years Eve dinner there included 3 glasses of wine, soup, octopus appetizer and 2 bowls of pasta. Total with tip came to $180.
One of the dishes we ordered was charged to us even though we never got it.
Sorry to report that the bill was too much for the food and the service.
Unusual and tasty specials. Very accommodating for modifications.
We return to Poesia several times a year. Without fail, Francesco greets us by name and treats us like old friends.
Poesia is a neighborhood gem, with amazing, authentic, Southern Italian fare, warm, unpretentious atmosphere.
Quaint Italian restaurant in the Castro. Service was excellent. Food was good. Has a full bar. It's a small space so reservations are recommended.
From the host to the end of the meal, everything was wonderful. The entire staff was delightful and all of the food was delicious. This is a neighborhood gem!
Great food! Great service! Good wine and nice setting. What more could you want? I highly recommend this place as one of the best restaurants in town, certainly in the Castro.
Cute as a bug, one of the more romantic places in the City. The pasta shines here--house-made, al dente, flavorful. During our last visit, there were two servers working, so occasionally there was a delay. But the friendliness and effort of the servers made up for it. Chill, enjoy, repeat. Great for a date or bringing an out-of-town guest.
We were very well taken care of!
Best Italian food in San Francisco and the services is excellete
Very good food.
However, you are charging it seems, the highest possible prices for everything.
For example: 12 or 13 bucks for house martini. $20 for the squid plate. You and I know how cheap squid is. It was delicious, but you were sparse with the calamari and loaded it with arugula. An enormous portion of calamari can be had at many restaurants for less that $15. And $35 for the lamb. Again, pricey for the amount. I am not sure that I will be returning. You may want to consider this as potential new customers come in to try your place. If I like a place, I recommend it to 5-10 friends who, if they like it, may do the same. I hope something changes as sweet place and service very good.
Poesia is one of my favorite places in the city! Always a good time!
Ever since moving to the Castro I had been curious about the signs pointing to Poesia just down the road. We wanted a nice date spot that wasn't too far away, so we made a reservation right at the start of dinner (5pm) to make a showtime. We were greeted quickly at the door and seated, and soon one of the owners himself came to greet us and talk us through the specials and a bit of the history of his place. It was overall such a warm experience because even when more people filled up the restaurant, he was attentive and kept coming back to check on us. We had a late lunch earlier in the day, so with just our two entrees and one appetizer between us we were stuffed with leftovers and no room for dessert by the end. I had the squid ink pasta, and it was beautifully presented with a wonderful rich flavor with just a shadow of smokiness and punctuated by the sweetness of the seafood. The pasta was al dente, and the seafood was tender. I still am drooling about it even now! Will definitely be back.
