The restaurant is located in DC’s Chinatown at 777 I (EYE) Street NW, with the main entrance in the breezeway between I and K Streets. Designed by Swatchroom, the 70-seat interior is accented with colors of deep green and black, complimented with gold and bronze accents. An outdoor lounge available for enjoyment in the warmer months.
Albisu also owns Taco Bamba, a Mexican street food-inspired takeout counter with a location in DC next to Poca Madre as well as locations in Falls Church, Vienna and Springfield, VA.

Fantastic experience for our 3 year anniversary. We selected the Taco Omakase which was 12 courses of delicious small bite food, paired with 5 varying drinks.
Absolutely beautiful interior, ambiance & food (taste & presentation). Could not be more delighted by the experience. Typically do not repeat visit restaurants on subsequent trips to major cities but this one I would. Highly recommend
The food and experience were average overall, and nothing about this restaurant made me feel motivated to return.
Delicious food and great service. Definitely try it.
This is one of my favorite places to eat in DC. Great food, great atmosphere, great service. It is a hidden treasure. Have dined there about 6 times, always fantastic!.They start you with a small complimentary custom cocktail which always tastes great. They specialize in creative drinks with a mezcal focus; however, they have superlative drinks with every ingredient.
They have many small and medium size plate options as well as larger dishes that can be shared. Among my favorites are the different cerviches and the octopus. The service is always wonderful. We have gotten to know Ramon, who is a character. He makes your meal fun and provides attentive service.
While I have dined there a few times, I want to return and try there 4 course dinner. Have heard it is excellent. The ambiance of the restaurant is quite good; however, it isn't what would call a "quiet dining experience". It is a fun vibe, not loud but not "stuffy" quiet dining.
The prices are not inexpensive, but the quality is phenomenal and well worth the cost. Everyone with whom I have dined with at the restaurant has been very happy and plans to return. Confident your experience with be similar.
For the most part, the six plates we shared were Very Good. The hamachi ceviche, however was not made with fresh fish given the pronounced amine flavor under the sauce. That first bite discolored what otherwise would have been a very positive experience. It's hard to recommend a restaurant to a friend if the discussion is, "Yes, but don't order the ceviche."
Exceptional! Cuisine and service were better than the hype. Get there soon..it is a true "i can't wait to go back" restaurant
As usual, the food, drinks and service were GREAT! Make sure you try the duck as part of the Chef's tasting menu.
Quality of food preparation has declined since Poca Madre first opened.
Loved the service, the environment, and the food was very good. Would love the chef to print a cookbook!
Our server was ver courteous and attentive and patient. Lovely guy!
The food was very fun and innovative. Everything we had was delicious. Our server, Devin, was awesome! He was so friendly and ensured that we had a great dining experience. He knew the right blend of being personable and engaging without being intrusive! This was a wonderful night and we definitely are excited to go back!
I went to Poca Madre with another couple and my fiance. Waiter was great and very knowledgeable. We ordered the entire dinner by 9:45pm. We ordered 4 smaller plates and 2 of the Pollo con Mole. I would have given the restaurant given good review but when it came to get our "main course" it took over 1 hour and 15 mins to receive the 2 Pollo con Mole's. There was roughly a 45min gap between the last last plate we received to when we received the chicken. The waiter was blunt with us and told us he had no excuses. For that reason I will probably not be going back bc the food can me amazing but if timely service is no bueno well then i'll just pass and spend my $200 bucks somewhere else.
Amazing food - octopus is to die for. Love the welcome cocktail! Suspiro dessert yummy!
Incredible food, incredible service, and really cool ambience. Perfect for a date, special occasion, work dinner, or entertaining friends.
We did the taco omakase menu. All delicious but perhaps a bit "one-note" during the meal. Would have liked a couple of courses to change the flavor profile a bit. That said, one of the most creative ways to eat in DC, great service and great cocktails.
Amazing drinks, fantastic food (eat everything, but skip the donas). Very pricey, but great for a special event. For a group of four we got the duck to share, and everyone got a small plate or two.
This was our second trip to Poco Madre. Hands down it is the best meal and best service we have had anywhere in the last decade...and we eat out at fine dining all the time.
Food was great. Highly recommend snapper ceviche, burrito the king, Duck carnitas
This place takes care of you from the moment you walk in until the moment you leave. The service level is just outstanding.
When you finally start looking at the menu it is going to be so hard to decide. All options sound excellent and offer different types of meals. But no matter what you decide upon (we had taco omakase) you will be very happy.
Great experience! The 12 course meal was amazing. The drinks were amazing!
We were greeted with a small welcome beverage that was delicious. Our server was friendly, informative, and attentive to our needs. The food was amazing, especially the pulpo laminado and the shrimp & cuttlefish ceviche. Definitely recommended and would return if I lived nearby!
This restaurant tries too hard to be innovative and ends up being contrived. Drink prices are ridiculous. Plus all the dishes came to the table too quickly and the shared dishes were difficult to share. Not a relaxing dining experience.
We had an exciting and tasteful experience. The service was sensational and the food was fit for the desired expectations of a world traveler like myself.
Nice atmosphere and good food. The waiter was a somewhat aggressive and defensive, which was some what annoying. Table was not ready and since the bar is really small it was hard to wait and order drinks. Some portions of dishes were unexpectedly small! But over all a good experience with decent food.
Took my parents there while they were in town visiting. The food was incredible and our waiter was extremely helpful and knowledgeable and kind. Had an amazing time. The creamy arroz dish is not to be missed! Only “negative” thing would be that I wish the portions were just a bit bigger!!!!
Hands down the best Mexican restaurant
Best arroz/risotto of my life!!!!!
What a fun and adventurous dining experience! We loved Chef Victor Albisu's take on fusion of many types of foods (think Mexican, Peurto Rican, street food) into beautifully displayed and delicious offerings. This is not your usual margarita and burrito place, although we had both and they were awesome. It's creative. It's beautiful. And after a little tequila it's even more fun. Other great cocktails and some beers were served with liquid nitrogen frost. Our apps and main dishes were beautiful to look at and eat - even the grasshoppers. The octopus was sublime. Loved trying new things and can't wait to return.
Everything was wonderful!
1st class service all around. Our waiter (Ramando) provided great service and menu suggestions for drinks, apps and entrees. The drinks were amazing—highly recommend the Los Amantes, Acapulco Trading Co cocktails, Cafe Ahumado cocktails!
We were interested in the tasting menu but decided to go a la carte to try as much as possible. We ordered the following:
Tortillas Con Mantequilla (5/5)
Hamachi Ceviche (3.5/5)
Beet & Burrata Tostada (5/5) -- MUST TRY
Crispy Brussels Sprouts (5/5) -- MUST TRY
Burrito 'The King (5/5) -- MUST TRY
Pollo Con Mole (5/5) -- MUST TRY
The interior has a unique, fun and intimate design. The small bar and patio area look perfect for lighter fair. Couldn't recommend more, really looking forward to going back to try more!
Loved everything about this place. Great food, great service, great cocktails. Would definitely recommend and return.
The tuna tartare, the octopus and the duck were very good
Fabulous meal with very creative and delicious combinations.
I understand the concept of the restaurant, but the portions were extremely small. The entree was smaller than an appetizer (whitefish for ~ $25). We ordered 9 or 10 dishes for a party of 4 - were still hungry in the and had to go for a second dinner right after this one.
The food was exceptional in depth of flavor and originality. We loved everything we ordered.
As long time fans of Del Campo we were disappointed with Poca Madre. The staff and especially our server was generally efficient but not at all friendly. The food was good but we will not go back with so many other amazing places around.
They were out of the white wine we wanted but the waiter had some great suggestions. Crispy whole fish, burrito and ceviche were awesome! Would've liked the ambiance to be a little more vibrant for a Friday night with some music or something but overall good experience. I would go back for a low key weekday dinner and enjoy the delicious food!
Great selection of creative choices. Well sized portions. Helpful and friendly service. Will come back...
Try the arroz crema. Amazing
