Great food and service, good ambiance. We’ll definetely return to try more things. Thanks
The service was top notch. Our server knew his stuff with our Mezcal Flight, chosen specifically by the bar manager. The food was fresh, unique and adventurous. The scuttlefish and shrimp ceviche was in the top 20 dishes I've ever had. (If you go, ask your server to put a little mezcal in the coconut milk after you've finished most of the dish....life changing.) It was definitely pricey, but worth every penny.
Exceptional food, cocktails, service. Lots of DC restaurants get a huge amount of hype and don’t live up to it. This place deserves all accolades. Every course was delicious. The Sablefish was one of the best seafood dishes I’ve ever had. The duck was equally excellent. Will definitely go back!
Cocktails, service and food were all amazing!! It’s pretty pricey though so definitely a “special night out” for us. The Campeon cocktail is my new favorite drink in dc!
Food was really good, especially the octopus! Very friendly staff!
Food was great it was worth the money, a different view in mexican food and it was great. The only bad thing is that is loud.
Well worth the visit. Creative, delicious, authentic and attentive service. Will definitely return.
Excellent food, superb service. Highly recommend the pulpo and the charred cabbage taco plate.
Food was terrible
EVERYTHING was amazing. Enough said.
Well, that was awesome. Do the taco tasting menu, for sure.
Never been. Waiter was first class and really liked how he explained everything. I'll definitely go back.
Truly outstanding dining experience. Unique flavors that don't overpower each other. Service was impeccable. Cannot wait to return to DC so that I can eat there again. Not inexpensive but completely worth it.
An extraordinary meal. We were 3 and we had the 4 course chef's meal. The service was outstanding and we enjoyed sharing our thoughts on dishes that we would like to sample. Our favorites were the first 2 courses - cuttlefish and shrimp pasta, sashimis, and oh that corn risotto with herbs and burrata plus the oxtail and grilled cabbage soft tacos. WOW. I have to take my hat off to the servers who accompanied us, warned us about quantities (it was seriously copious) and recommended the drink pairings. Delightful cocktails to start and red and white wines to discover. We cannot wait to return. My only criticisms would be the speed - we needed more time to savor, to eat, to digest, given the quantities. I know Americans expect to eat fast but I would recommend that you specifically ask to slow it down if you like a more mellow pace. Save room fro the warm donuts with dulce de leche dipping sauce ... Bravo to the entire team!
Disappointing. One-dimensional, overly spiced Mexican-ish.
Amazing food with great service. Beautiful venue!
We had the twelve course Dinner. Excellent Value for money, but unfortunately with lots of spicy sauces that killed some of the excellent flavours of the meal. Anyway, a good Experience.
In my mind, the dinner that my friend and I had at Poca Madre was worth the money. It's certainly not going to be a dinner I can do frequently, but everything I had was amazing and I was amazed with how good the food was all night long. The burrito sounded super decadent from the description, and for the price point, I was really hesitant. But it was the best burrito I've ever had in my life, and they really did an amazing job matching the flavor profiles of all the crazy sounding ingredients. I'd recommend this restaurant to any foodie looking for a great bite in Chinatown, or DC in general.
Food was as good as the service. The waiter was very knowledgeable and had great recommendations. They were cautious with my gluten allergy, very appreciated.
Food and drinks were amazing! We had the testing menu. Service seem a bit off. At times we would get 2 plates at once but then for our last dish we waited for more than 20 minutes. Everything was delicious though. We would definitely come back but order a la carte.
Everything is fabulous - great service, food portions are perfect, on point cocktails - just go!!
Tasty and inventive, with an extensive mezcal list.
Great food, service and everything. Highly recommend!
Ok, the king burrito is amazing. This place is expensive and the portions are small, but holy cow there is so much flavor in every bite! Great cocktails as well. The old fashioned is top notch.
I love the concept but not the practice of Poca Madre. The menu choices are limited and to eat well you are pushed to severely overpriced dishes for two--which doesn't work if you are not there on a romantic date.
Excellent and creative food. Wonderful ambiance and attentive service.
Very good food
My grievance was with the entrees and overall price. The Halibut, and Pollo con Mole Sauce is a miserably over priced fish sandwich and two pieces of fried chicken with barely any mole sauce on it. There was absolutely ZERO culinary presentation with each dish for the price paid, which was a HUGE let down. Even then, drinks were average and dessert (Strawberry Paletas) was probably the only decent thing I ate, but NOT enough to make up for the let down. To sum this up you’re 100x better off going to Masa 14 (which I highly recommend for brunch) or Oyamel for the price I paid (~ $80).
To the restaurant owner all I can say is no discount or free entree within my next visit will make up for this, or make me want to consider coming back. Thanks but no thanks.
4th time with Poca Madre. Simply outstanding. Food presentation and quality are Top 10 in DC. This is a must visit.
Our waiter and the drinks were both 5 stars. The food was very good. My wife and I did not care for the shrimp and cuttlefish app (tho it was beautiful to look at). The risotto and octopus were both fantastic. The all hail the king burrito was an experience...not sure if I can get on board with caviar on a burrito...but I was happy to try it.
Poca Madre is possibly the most underrated restaurant in DC. The food and drinks are innovative and delicious. The service is by far the best in the city. When it took a long time to bring out one of our dishes, the staff and manager apologized and brought out a free appetizer to tide us over. Kieran, our wonderful waiter, brought us sparkling rose to celebrate our birthdays. Nobody rushed us. It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
Had to wait an unreasonable amount of time for a cocktail and to get our waters refilled but otherwise it was an incredible experience. Would absolutely go back in a heartbeat.
Get the Chicken Mole!!!
Delicious Oaxacan cuisine. Very informed and friendly waiters. It was a crime how few folks were there to enjoy the food. Would go back again. Try the duck.
Went with family and the place gets too loud.
Incredible!! Great bang for your buck. The best dining experience I’ve ever had. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable. LOVE!
Great food and immaculate service. Looking forward to trying more dishes!
A new fave in DC!
I could only get a late reservation (8:45 pm) two weeks out but it was worth the wait! Fantastic flavors and the best service I have had in DC (thanks Rob!!). Very impressed and will certainly be back multiple times.
I had the corn risotto, hamachi ceviche and sablefish. The mousse dessert was also delectable. 5-stars!
Really excellent service, fun selection of mezcal, terrific food. Made a point to bring my dad during his visit to the area, we all loved it.
