About
We went for brunch on Sunday. We arrived around noon, and the place was pretty empty. We got served right away. Our server was great! Gradually more people arrived and he was covering the entire top floor by himself. He made sure he kept our glasses full as we ordered bottomless mimosas. I ordered the french toast po boy which was really creative and tasty! Also the grits were delicious. Will be coming back again!
Excellent fried (not greasy) seafood. Had crab bites, shrimp, gumbo, sausage poboy and salads. Also had beer and beignets!
Good comfort food but the service was slower for the folks downstairs than those upstairs near the bar. Also, downstairs is not ideal during the colder months. I and others sat with our coats on.
I’ve been to Po Boy Jim’s several times, but mainly for dinner and lunch. There Po Boys are amazing, I would definitely go back to those. However my brunch experience was not like my previous experiencing. I went there for brunch specifically for their banana fosters French toast. Once I arrived I found out they did not have any bananas or any other fruit toppings. There was only one server on the second level and once it became a bit busy, it was hard from him to efficiently serve everyone. When my food came out, I immediately noticed my order was incorrect. I specifically asked for no bacon, as I am a pescatarian, and I requested no eggs. Then a few moments later a whole new plate of food arrived that was apparently for me and my friend, even though we already received our food. The food was cold and lackluster. I am very surprised, due to past experiences at this restaurant, that brunch was not good. Again I’d go back for the Po Boys, but will bypass brunch.
Neighborhood eatery with Louisiana style food.
Tasty and ample portions.
Staff was pleasant, accommodating, and professional.
They don’t take reservations and or acknowledge ones from Open Table. Terrible customer service experience.
Brunch was excellent.
We went for brunch. However, they did not serve coffee, toast, or any juice other than orange juice.
This location is trash. The brunch menu isn’t that extensive, and a lot of the item for brunch were unavailable. The location on U street is the only one worth going to.
good food. Only complaint is cleanliness. We arrived when it opened and place wasn’t clean. The bathrooms were not great. The AC vent was caked in dirt (I took a picture of it). Table was Sticky and chairs needed to be wiped.
Oysters were fried too hard. Service was very good, music a little too loud to hear waiter or each other.
Food was very salty, especially the red beans and rice.
Lack of systems or structure really hinders this place from being great. Walk in the front door , no hostess , no greeting , no signage that tells you the happenings are upstairs. Busy as expected on a dc summer Sunday (brunch day) so I made reservations on open table , not honored since again no reception. One server to manage waiting tables, sitting tables, bussing tables and doing bottomless refills (which is non stop ) and he had to fix the bathroom too. They had a a guy (I don't know what his title possibly could have been ) in regular clothes (filthy) nothing that mentions he works for the establishment running food and drinks. Just pure chaos but the food is good !! I cannot not take that away from them at all. Most likely will never step foot in here again unless I hear some changes were made.
This was a great find. The food was great and the drinks were even greater. The fishbowl was strong and tasty. I had the catfish poboy. Delicious. Everyone at the table got quiet when it came to the food.
My second visit. Service improved tremendously perhaps because it wasn't as busy like our first visit. Will return.
Cool vibe, Great food, willing and able to host large group + vegan option!
I took my guy friend for his birthday and he is originally from New Orleans! He love the food and the experience. Good food, good drinks.
The service left a little to be desired on an early Saturday evening, when many people begin to venture out to restaurants.
Though very nice, I thought the service was very slow and I was surprised there was no french bread or any bread on the table when we ordered our gumbo--real NOLA-style restaurants know this and get it right.
The drinks were somewhat strong and the food was decent. I would go again, but it might be a minute before I do...
We had 2 o'clock reservations for a birthday celebration. Sunday. The staff never greeted us when we arrived. After several minutes of just standing and waiting We had to go find a host and asked if they would seat us and they said give us a second and we waited another 5 to 10 more minutes and still nothing. When we finally left and tried to book elsewhere OpenTable required us call the restaurant to cancel the reservation. On the phone we were told that we had to cancel online. I informed them that we could not cancel on open table but had to call the restaurant. I told them that We were there in the store, the person that answered the phone seemed to be unaware that we had arrived and left. Then he told us that it was busy and that they were trying to get to us. But no one said a word to us. The wait staff and host walked by us several times with out saying a single word to us. When I told him we were there but left because they were not ready, they said that they were busy but added that our reservations were at 2pm. I expressed that we were only 5 mins late and I told him that I fail to understand how they would've been better able to serve us if we had been there 5 minutes earlier. We arrived between 2:05 or 2:08 for a 2:00 reservation and we didn't leave until about 2:20. They never released the reservation. This was an unfortunate and avoidable experience. It was also my birthday celebration. We've been there twice and have never had this kind of service.
Service was Great, food was sub-par. The drink menu was fun and tasted great! Our dinner was not very good even though we stuck to their specials. I would meet for drinks again but would eat elsewhere.
Being from Louisiana we decided to stop in and see what it was all about! The atmosphere was fantastic, we enjoyed it! The iced tea and Diet Coke were a little funny tasting. The red beans and rice was really yummy along with the chicken alfredo that was amazing. The catfish basket with fries was very nasty looking that we did not even taste it. The fish was very dark, and greasy. Besides the fish, our experience was good. Just don't get anything that is fried because it probably won't be good.
Very casual seafood spot. Good for a quick meal with friends.
Bought a Groupon for brunch for 4. It was ok. The website makes you think it's nicer than it is. Three of us got our food and our 4th had to wait 10 more minutes before his food arrived. Ask for a bloody mary but they were out of tomato juice. Asked for coffee but they don't offer it??? I mean who doesn't have coffee when you offer a brunch? Po boys were kinda dry. The bottomless mimosas were the best thing they had. Since we had a groupon at a good price it was worth it but not worth going back at regular price
The food was tasty, the drinks were delicious (although the Hurricanes were a little too sweet for my taste), the service was attentive, and the prices were very reasonable. What more could you ask for?
The food was somewhere between fair and good, and the mimosas were too heavy on very sugary orange juice and too light on the champagne. The servers were friendly and the service was prompt. The restaurant was clean. It had a fun vibe, but was quite loud.
Good neighborhood spot. Kitchen is slow; customer service could be improved, and the sticky tables upstairs are kind of gross. However, if you want a shrimp basket - go! Po Boy's are decent; the bread is fresh, but really doughy. And, the onion rings HIT!
Service was super slow. Food was below average, especially the gumbo...worst I ever had!
This place is more like a bar than a restaurant. The downstairs is a takeout place. Upstairs there is some seating and a bar. We ordered oyster po' boys and they were okay but not as good as many I've had. The grits were watery and tasteless.
The restaurant had a great selection of southern cooking. Everything we ordered was great. I especially loved the gumbo! It was hearty with the right amount of heat..
The po-boy sandwiches were creative. I definitely will go back!
The quality has gone down since opening. The food quality was not great and cause me and my wife some stomach issues that night and the next day.
The brunch here is amazing!
Loved the poboys and beignets.
First time visit and was not impressed at all. I had to ask the server for utensils several times. Although the Gumbo was tasty, the rest of the food we ordered was not. Not what I was expecting at all.
Brunch food was just ok
We had a group of eight and everyone loved their meal and the service. Our waiter was polite, fun and provided great service. This is a place we will visit again!
They had a kitchen staffing problem at lunchtime on a Monday but the waiter was attentive and apologetic and the food was delicious. Would try again and possibly rate higher - expect it was not a regular problem.
Super fun place with great food and strong, tasty drinks. My spouse and I had a relaxed, delicious meal here last Sunday evening. The decor is adorable, with a bit of a cozy, home-y feel with lamps and window shutters decorating the ceiling. It feels very much like the space could have been an old row house with all the brick. We sat at the bar and the bartender was very kind, helpful, and made great drinks--strong and enjoyable. The food came out quickly and was well-prepared. We tried the Po Boy Jim on H and the Rasta (mine), one with fries, one with onion rings. Both sides were delicious, my spouse was very pleased with the seafood on his, and the overall flavor and texture of mine was surprisingly delicious. To get a vegetarian patty definitely made in house is always a joy, and this lived up to all the expectations. Very fun place with great energy. Would gladly go back for dinner. We did also go for brunch a separate time and waited over an hour for a table (with a reservation). So I would not be inclined to go back for brunch, but would definitely recommend for any other occasion! This is a wonderful neighborhood joint.
Wonderful friendly service! Great food and drinks! Calm vibe! My family loved it
I had the shrimp and grits and they were awesome... The wing flight was good but nothing to write home about. The drinks and the service were excellent. I'd go again.
I loved it. The food was amazing and the mimosas were awesome!! I will definitely be returning soon!
The service is challenging. We went at peak brunch time on a Saturday afternoon so barely got recognized. Everything was slow in coming but eventually what seemed like an earnest apology was given. The food made up for it. Outstanding. simply delicious. Everyone in my party was pleased.
