+39 Italian Restaurant
Last seating 15 minutes before close.
While we do have bar, lounge, and patio seating available, they are **first come first served**. You may, however, request these arrangements upon arrival to your reservation.
Please keep in mind that +39 is participating in social distancing measures! We have chosen to measure 6-feet from a seated position, rather than the table itself. Please also note that an open table is not necessarily able to be used. Thank you for understanding, and thank you for supporting local businesses!
Always hospitable, delicious, and varied. +39 is a constant delight!
We always ask to have Corey as our waiter, but he was in the kitchen the night we were there. Instead, we had a waiter named Jacob and he lived up to Corey's level of service and friendliness!
Our server, Nikki, was amazing! She checked in often but not so much that it was annoying. We sat outside and enjoyed a beautiful summer evening- patio area was beautiful and quiet.
What a wonderful experience. Nikki provided outstanding service. The food was amazing. We highly recommend +39. We will visit every time we are in town.
Fun patio and good food. Treated great by everyone!
Brunch with our niece and her roommate. Good selection and well-prepared food. We stuck to the breakfast entrees - eggs, avocado toast, biscuits and gravy.
We had a group of 8 and made reservations. The service was incredibly slow although our waitress was nice. The restaurant was not overly busy but they were out of several key menu items such as bread and soup. Everything was very slow to come to the table, drink refills, appetizers and the main course. The food was fine but nothing spectacular.
Great food and service!
Excellent service - excellent food - a great evening
Food was cold. Not enough servers. Took forever. Brought new food out and that was cold.
We had reservations as it was Valentines Day and we were seated promptly. The service was excellent and the food was very tasty. Only complaint is that although the potatoes tasted great they were barely warm.
Ambiance was great but it was a busy night and food was average. Lasagna was over cooked and bread wasn’t warm
I really want to like this place better than I do as we go often. The problem is that there is always some sort of a problem. Wrong drink, items ordered not served, server goes missing, food served cold, unappetizing display ... The list seems to grow each time. My guess is that in Ames "ok" is good enough.
Best Italian food in town! I recommend the pizza and ravioli from the daily specials. Outstanding
Server sat us promptly and asked if we wanted anything to drink. Ordered club soda and 4 wine glasses for the wine we brought. She came back empty handed and asked if we wanted appetizers. After several more minutes without drinks or glasses took the wine to the bar for service. Ordered the meal and when it came the burgers were burnt on the bottom, overcooked, the fries were cool and one meal came out without sauce, so it went back. We were out of time to make the game so did not give the kitchen time to redo. They discounted the meal and gave us a free desert, as if that compensated for the experience. Have had good experiences here in the past, but doubt we will back soon.
Very enjoyable visit. Food and service was great and the atmosphere was superb.
I really appreciated the OpenTable reservation option as it made it very easy & knew when to arrive. Arrived early figuring have a drink while we waited for table at the bar, however, my mother already seated at our table. We had great service, great food & a wonderful time in honor of my mother’s birthday. The noise level due to design of space was only issue as was very noisy at times. Overall we were very happy with our experience.
Always a favorite “go to” restaurant! Glad they have both vegetarian and gluten-free options, too!
Thank you to the staff, especially our waiter Cory, for making our nights out with our son so special. We'll miss +39 after he graduates from Iowa State!
Our waitress made the experience even better! She was so kind and funny, but really was the perfect mix between checking in on us and letting us enjoy our meal. It was a great night!
We had made reservations and when we arrived about 10 min. early, we were seated immediately! Our server was knowledgeable about the specials for the night and explained them well. Our food arrived quickly and very generous portions. Both, my wife's and my dinners were excellent! Highly recommend this place!
What a disappointment. While the atmosphere was relaxed and slightly upscale, the rest of the experience was substandard. The arancini appetizers (risotto balls) were mushy and undercooked, the cheese inside was cold and unmelted. The small salads contained nothing but lettuce, not even a few carrot shavings or croutons. The ravioli was thick, doughy and difficult to chew. The bolognese, which should be a symphony of flavor, was downright tasteless and was served luke warm. Given this experience, you can see why we passed on dessert.
It was our first visit, before a concert that we were attending in the area. Our server was wonderful, anticipating our needs and offering suggestions. Entrees are a little pricey however soup/salad was included with pasta entrees unlike some similar restaurants. Overall a great experience and we’ll return when we’re in the area.
It was fine, it wasn't worth the price, out of 2 different things my wife ordered. food was ok. service was ok.
We like +39 because we can make a reservation (wish ALL Ames, Iowa restaurants allowed this!) AND because of waiter Corey. We're going back in a couple weeks when the butternut squash ravioli hits the menu and we will be requesting Corey!
We were at the Iowa State football game for the weekend and looking for an excellent restaurant and found this one on-line and it sounded great. When we arrived we were impressed with the décor which is very attractive.
From there it was not an enjoyable experience as the server apologized for the delay every time she brought some item. Our salads sat under a heat lamp for 10 minutes before being served. We were next to the kitchen so could see everything.
Three of our pastas sat for close to 10 minutes before being served. We ordered drinks in the beginning and they were served after eating the complimentary bread, bruschetta and salads. I ordered a second glass of wine when the main entrée was served and it arrived after completing my entrée.
It bitter disappointment after exciting expectations.
The food is incredible and will be the best part of your visit. I have been to +39 twice and had great service both times. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a more fancy dinner in Ames
Had the 8 pm reservation for 2. Always nice ambiance and great food. Not enough help. The waitress kept asking what our drinks were. I just had red wine...easy, right...took forever to get them. Never did bring us our bread. Too much giggling . Not professional at all. All the help seemed out of sync. We drove 4 hours to attend the football game and stay overnight. Always had a wonderful experience there, til the 20th. Hard pressed to go back there ever again.
The food was great, but once we were seated it was 20 minutes until a server welcomed us.
Food was great. Our party was one of the first tables of the night with a reservation and we didn’t get our food until an hour and a half after ordering. Three tables were served and finished with their meal before we got ours. We were offer free ice cream but it took about 30 minutes after we were done with our meal to place an order for the ice cream. Been here previously and enjoyed the experience so I recommend the restaurant. Not sure we will be back after this night.
Excellent outdoor seating. Gelato for dessert was the perfect finish!
Nice space, very good service and friendly staff. Food was mediocre. Sausage pizza was salty and all the sausage in the middle of the pizza, pasta was pedestrian with a red sauce that was quite light with no real punch to it. Really wish the food was better because everything else was spot on.
Food is fantastic, the waiter recommended a very good wine to compliment our dinner. Tho owner sat us in the back room which was a great experience. My wife and I have had multiple brunches here this was our first dinner, we will have many more!!
Very pleased, chose this restaurant based on reviews since i was from out of town. Delicious meal, reasonable price and good service.
Went there for a post graduation family meal. Food was very good. Service excellent. We have been here other times to eat and this was the best.
Wonderful brunch menu, efficient & engaging wait staff. Would highly recommend.
Very authentic Italian restaurant with delicious food!
Very pleased with our dining experience. Our outing was during a very busy evening after ISU graduation. We were seated a few minutes early, waitress was very friendly, and the food came rather fast. Couldn’t have been more pleased with our choice for the evening!
Went for my sons graduation from Iowa State. Party of 6 with a reservation. It was very crowded but we were seated immediately. Menu was a little more abbreviated that on line given the expected crowds. Everyone enjoyed their food with a range from salad to pasta to a hamburger. What made the experience great was our service. Think his name was Peter. He was very attentive and solicitous to the needs of my 84 year old mother... from a better chair to wine selection reco! While he also had a much larger table he did not lose sight of us and our needs and even apologized when he was away too long. Would definitely return on a future trip.
Fabulous Staff! The wine cellar room was incredible. The food was amazing.
