PLANT-BASED COMFORT FOOD
“Artful upscale dishes take vegan cuisine to its greatest potential, and can even impress a carnivore at chef-owner Makini Howell’s Capitol Hill bistro. With an airy atmosphere of chic sophistication and fine service, it’s the spot for a classy date.” — Zagat
We went here for Valentine’s Day dinner — my boyfriend had never been before. It inspired us to make coming to Plum more often top of mind, so when I got an email about the special guest meals with visiting chefs it sounded like fun. We were surprised to find out the meal was half price when we arrived, but we saw this as a way to support our wonderful server because we are aware of how the service industries are hurting right now during this pandemic. And finally to the food... it was so delicious and surprising and creative — we thoroughly enjoyed every course. My favorite items were the Maitake Mushroom Fritter, Winter Chanterelle Congee and Toasted Coconut Panna Cotta. 😋 I hope these visiting chef nights continue once we returning to some normalcy.
Food was okay but a little overpriced for what was served. Interesting what food items are able to be created with vegan food. Great service. Solid cocktails
When we arrived we were disappointed to find that the restaurant was only offering a prix fixe menu for Valentine's Day weekend despite that not having been messaged anywhere throughout the booking process or reservation reminders. Half of our group left as they didn't see anything on the menu that would suit their tastes or their budgets leaving my father-in-law's birthday dinner with half the planned attendance and no time to find another Saturday night reservation for eight people. Even with their departure, dinner was much more expensive than expected due to the $70 cost per head. Our waiter was very gracious as we worked out our plan but that must have been a bummer for him too. We all enjoyed our food but agreed that the dessert portions were outsized compared to the appetizer and entree. Overall, not the best experience but we could tell that a lot of thought and effort was put into the food. Maybe we'll give Plum Bistro another try on a future trip to Seattle, if not on a holiday weekend.
Food was amazing as always. Table placement was a bit weird. Seated in a corner, facing the corner. I felt a bit like a toddler being punished. Strange look for a Valentine's date, but again - the food was great!
Love Plum! Best Vegan Establishment in Seattle!!!!
We were so excited to try out a vegan Restaurant with a good reputation. Mind you we were there for Valentines dinner, so maybe this tainted our experience. We each had The option of 3 very expensive 3 course options. From the salad to the dessert all of my options were very under whelming and luke warm. My husbands option were the same. We did enjoy his Mac and Cheese. But had to laugh as we truly felt we paid $135.00 for a good Mac and Cheese. The dining experience was awful. Way more tables than the space could contain and it was obvious our wait staff just wanted to turn the table. Seriously we wanted to get out of there and will not be back.
My Valentine is s Gluten Free Vegan. Finding a special place like Plum Bistro was the perfect place. I made our reservation early online. I was grateful for some timely reminders. The Special menu on 2/14/2020 had three fantastic options. As a meat eater even I had a remarkable meal. The service was perfect and the price was more than fair. If you are looking for some vegan food in a beautiful atmosphere this is the place to go to!
Absolutely love this restaurant, and appreciate the vegan Thanksgiving! Always great service, great food, and an intimate setting.
We love Plum! The food is fantastic, service excellent. We attended Thanksgiving dinner again this year. It was delicious and we enjoyed that they were playing mellow mostly 70s music. Great experience overall.
The food was delicious but pricey. Poor parking accomodations. Service was excellent. Would recommend for an excellent vegan experience.
Thanksgiving at Plum is a family tradition that we look forward to all year long. Great food and staff make our annual celebration complete. We never feel deprived being vegan on thanksgiving, instead we feel sad for our non-vegan friends who are missing out.
The food was delicious, especially the Mac & Yeas. We sat at the bar, and it was surprisingly private and comfortable.
Extremely over priced. The cost was 70.00 a person, that is quite extreme
When I told the hostess that we had a reservation, she rudely informed us that they don't take them on weekends. I was able to make one, so... okay? Fortunately there was a table open and we were seated right away. Food was delicious and service was fine after the initial unpleasantness.
There is a 20% service fee and a tip is expected. 40% extra is not worth it - even though the food is good.
They've implemented a 20% automatic service charge. Normally when you see that phrase you assume it means that the service folks get that money. But the menu states, "A 20% service charge is included on each check. None of the service charge is payable directly to the employee(s) servicing you. Instead, the company retains the entirety of this service charge, which helps ensure that our entire valued service team receives competitive industry compensation and access to benefits." Which would be fine if not for the fact that they also expect tips on top of it. So you're essentially paying another 40% on items that go up to $29. If they're going to charge the 20% service charge, they should not accept tips, like at Tom Douglas. Or be up front about the cost of the menu items and list them at $34.80 instead of $29.
The food was great. However, we had a reservation and yet had to wait an hour because they worked in walk ups between the reservation. It was not apparent that having a reservation reduced our wait time in any way. They also add a 20% service charge to your bill which is NOT a tip for your server, so our server seemed sullen and the prices on the menu are deceptive.
So...if you want great vegan food and are willing to both wait and pay for it, this is a great place. If not, look elsewhere.
They told us they were running 30-45 minutes late for reservations. Very disappointing. Found somewhere else to eat instead
I made a reservation for Sunday's Easter brunch a couple weeks in advanced. We showed up and were asked to wait an hour. When we returned, our table was not ready so we cancelled our reservation to be able to move on with our day. Disappointed by the restaurant over booking and underdelivering.
Best vegan in Seattle. A must to discover just how savory,
hearty, and diverse a vegan meal can be. You won’t miss the animal protein, I promise.
Eclectic vegan food.
Went there for Easter brunch which was okay. They did not know how to handle reservations well because we had to wait almost an hour to be seated despite arriving before time for our reservation.
Makini is a genius! Easter brunch with chosen family was delicious and memorable.
The server was excellent but we almost didn’t get past the host. He was extremely unhelpful. When someone says it’s above his job or pay grade, that’s not a good start. We had reservations for quite a while and when we showed up he said they don’t take reservations and put us on a wait list. When I questioned it for a second time and asked for a manager, suddenly a table was available. After setting the table he pretty much just pointed and said “there’s your table”. I suggest a new host or fixing the “problem” that open table has presented them with by offering reservations that they wont honor.
Was able to get seated right away as we went right at opening how ever I made reservations and was told at the restaurant they do not do reservations.
Unfortunately, upon arrival, the host informed me that they didn’t have our reservation because the manager forgot to send a screenshot of the opentable reservations that day... it would be stellar to make sure if companies are using OpenTable that thenreaeevation system is speaking directly to the folks onsite.
The hostess made room for my party of five, but as could be expected the flow was thrown off because they weren’t expecting us. When the food was brought out they forgot one of my party’s entrees. They quickly scrambled to get the meal out.
When the bill came I expected that the delayed meal and the lost reservation would be somehow reflected but it wasn’t.
The staff was nice enough and the food as always was delicious, I just would have preferred to be handled differently. The business is after all food service / hospitality.
Plum Bistro is absolutely the best vegan food I've ever had in my life. I live in the SF Bay Area, and have had very high end food here. This tops them all. Try the Mac & Cheese, sausage, grits, greens, salads, you cannot go wrong. Oh my lord in heaven.
Great vegan food, lot's of options.
Portion sizes are on the small side, but that may have been because the food was so tasty.
We had reservation through OpenTable for 4pm and when we arrived at 3:53, we had the door shut in our face and told they didn’t open until 4pm. When 4:08 rolled around, we went back in and we were rudely greeted by hostess and told they don’t take reservations on Saturday. Waitress was so rude, horrible service and poor vibe from the staff. Food was great.....couldn’t get out of there fast enough, will never go back.
Food was not at all what I expected. It didn't taste good at all. It was super expensive. Paid 150$ for 2. Dessert was bitter. Server never brought the drink, and water. I guess it was a bad night.
Wife got sick after eating here. Was EXTREMELY difficult to contact Plum. Must have called 20 times over 3 weeks trying to speak with someone. The one time I got someone (voicemail full other times) he didn't know ANYTHING and took a message which I never received a call back. I am an understanding industry professional, so know how restaurants work and have reasonable expectations. Sorry Plum, no more.
Dinner was perfect: food, service, and atmosphere made for a wonderful evening out with my husband. We'll definitely be returning. I'm not a vegetarian, but I certainly could be if my meals were as good as what I experienced at Plum.
They've implemented a 20% automatic service charge. Normally when you see that phrase you assume it means that the service folks get that money. Amazing !! Go Vegan — let the plum bistro lead the way !!!
Food was amazing!! Staff was very friendly and accommodating. The space is a little small but well worth it. Will definitely return.
Thanksgiving
We attended the Thanksgiving meal. Everything was fantastic, excellently prepared and we were very full at the end.
This is our 3rd year at Plum Bistro for Thanksgiving. It's the only restaurant in town that our vegan family can just relax and eat at and our carnivores know the food will be so amazing they won't be missing any of the traditional Thanksgiving trappings. The food, atmosphere and service is always amazing. We look forward to our meal everytime and are never disappointed.
The food and service are always great. Their prices are a bit high, cocktails $15 meal is close to $40 per person because you're gonna want an appetizer because they're amazing!
I absolutely loved the food and atmosphere at Plum Bistro! The dishes were so creative and delicious. Even my omnivorous daughter and brother loved the food! I cannot wait to go back, this is my new fav vegan eatery!
Plum clearly knows what it has with its famous/popular Vegan Thanksgiving, so much so that they apparently oversold the room to the point that moving around involved navigating a constricted maze of bodies crammed everywhere. But more off-putting was the hardcore Christian Christmas music that played THE WHOLE TIME. Christmas music on Thanksgiving day is a mistake, and playing explicitly Jesus-y stuff was gross.
