I made my reservation for the Zag Restaurant, expecting the menu I know for a special event with my daughters and granddaughters. We arrived to a chaotic evening of slow service (pre-show in a Thursday). Someone mentioned ‘day one’ - I asked what that meant and realized that’s why the menu was not what I expected. New menu/restaurant. Whatever PLS is??? Might have been nice to know before we arrived that we weren’t going to the Zag restaurant. The food is basically slightly elevated bar food. There were 6 of us. My youngest granddaughter ordered the chocolate shake, only to be told they didn’t have that. My other granddaughters meal never came. She shared my pizza. Luckily our Rez was early since it took 2 hours for 1 round of drinks, a few appetizers and dinner…for 5 of 6 of us. We could see the staff were all really struggling/trying hard but still was a disaster. No need to ever go back. Sad.

The server was excellent. However, the dinner menu published on the restaurant website was not at all the menu offered in the restaurant. The online menu was a very different level of offerings. It was an unpleasant surprise to find the in restaurant menu with many fewer dinner entrees when we were expecting the broader menu featured online. We will not return for dinner.

We sat outside on a really nice day. Unfortunately, there were two workers who were power washing the sidewalk right next to our table for about an hour, and it was very noisy and unpleasant. The food was nothing to write home about. The waiter was the only person on staff, and it was very busy because it was a nice day. He was very nice and we appreciated him. Overall. It seems poorly planned with the power washers working just as the restaurant was opening up and the place was understaffed. We would not return.

We arrived during happy hour and wanted to have a quick meal as well before a show. We were served quickly with plenty of time to make the show.

Since Hotel Moderna became Hotel Zags, the restaurant cuisine took an unfortunate dive. No more duck confit, crispy calamari, upscale cuisine. The festive happy hour vibe is gone. The continental breakfast now served is sad. Never before have I felt a frozen, partially green banana at a buffet. We left and went out for breakfast. Our tradition of staying here during the PDX Jazz Festival, enjoying happy hour then Sunday brunch, is over. Our group will move on.

The food was so bad. Don’t be tempted to come here before a show at the Keller, even tho it’s close. Come for a glass of wine or beer ONLY. The food and cocktails will disappoint you. Spinach and artichoke dip was cold and flavorless, came with burnt pieces of bread. The pretzel was overcooked and crunchy, cheese dip also had no flavor, tasted like a flour and butter rue. Hummus dip didn’t come with enough stuff to dip it with, but wasn’t terrible. Pizza wasn’t the best I’ve ever had, but probably the best thing we ordered bc it was actually edible. Cocktails were also terrible, bitter and didn’t taste anything like they should. We switched to wine. Service was fine, although we had 4 different waiters come to take our order not realizing it had been taken already, and then we waited an hour for food. They were really nice though, not their fault the food was terrible and took forever… We came at 5pm, was slow, so not sure why food took so long.

We still miss Nel Centro. Zags is slowly recovering (hopefully),

Great food and service for our table of eight. They were out of one item on the menu. Vegetarian options were a bit limited, but it's a small menu to begin with. The restaurant seems to be "undiscovered," and is worth trying out. Daily happy hour, too!

Service is getting better. Food is always great. I wish that they had more staff. The venue could be so much more successful. If they just put some thought into staffing, you have to wait forever for a drink or your food because there’s usually one person working the floor I would love to see this more successful.
