Plaza Cafe Southside
Made from Scratch, that’s how we make our food. We use recipes that have been handed down for generations, and we use fresh, simple, honest, quality ingredients.
We believe that when a meal is prepared and cooked fresh with the best ingredients, it not only tastes better it makes you feel better. Of course, this takes time. But we’ve got time. That’s why we start baking early in the morning . All day long we’re cutting and chopping to ensure your food is always the freshest it can be.
Not everyone makes the effort to do things this way. But we do. We hope you enjoy every moment and every bite. When we see the smile on your face and know you are enjoying our food that is made of quality and care, that motivates us to start again from scratch every day.
loved it as always!
Consistently delicious food with a varied menu and daily specials. New Mexican with a Greek touch. Great service.
After reading and hearing so much about Plaza Cafe (where we’ve never eaten, tried Plaza Cafe Southside b/c it was closer to our lodging. It was ok, not great.
We really enjoyed the experience
I love going here. The staff is so welcoming, there's never a wait, lots of cozy booths to sit in and enjoy the person you're dining with. The menu is expansive and gluten-free friendly. Everything is delicious and bonus: breakfast served all day!
A very pleasing date night. Food was good. Service was attentive.
Chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes was yummy
Awesome place for some great New Mexico food!
Awesome New Mexico food.
we loved it as usual
We had the guacamole and the tacos and very much enjoyed both.
Great food for reasonable price. Our server, Andrea, was attentive and friendly.
Visiting museums downtown I most frequently go to the Plaza Cafe on the Plaza so this visit to the Plaza Cafe Southside was an unexpected delight. We were looking for a place to get reservations in the midst of Indian Market and we got so much more! I had forgotten what a great restaurant this is! The service was great, patient, while our out of town guests surveyed the unfamiliar menu, helpful in explaining unfamiliar choices, we couldn’t have asked for nicer service. Could a substitution be made because of an allergy? Of course! The food served was perfectly lovely all around the table. (The reservation is in error there were four of us.) I didn’t taste everything but everything looked great. Our vegetarian enjoyed her avocado tacos. My fish tacos were far and away the best I’ve had in Santa Fe. They have a chipotle salsa that is just terrific! The Plaza Cafe Southside is known for their desserts. I’ve never ordered any but this time we had to. My wife ordered the coconut cream pie for us to share. One day in the future I will drop by and just order that for a meal. Our lunch was huge success, our guests enjoyed it, we will be returning much more frequently. Terrific place.
We have been to the Plaza Cafe Southside many times. This time it was a busy weekend in Santa Fe. We reserved a table to make sure we would not have to wait long with 2 kids. When I arrived the hostess skipped me several times to ask others arriving after me to assist them. Once another patron agreed with me that I had been in line it was only a short wait to be seated.
The staff seemed a bit overwhelmed and rushed which earned them several trips back to the kitchen to get things after not listening to requests, but the food was great as always. Considering the timing we expected a few glitches and were glad to eat.
Pleasant atmosphere. Fairly reasonable pricing for Santa Fe. Rich, tasty food.
The house happy hours margarita was bad, the enchiladas awful, the beans pretty good and the rice passable. My friend on the other hand enjoyed the chili and his glass of Cabernet.
Food was excellent and reasonably priced. They warn about the heat of their chile, but it wasn’t very hot...I’ll give it a medium.
The food is as good, if not better than the original on the plaza, but without the crowds. Definitely worth checking out if you don’t mind a short drive out of downtown.
We've been traveling for 3 weeks and I have to say that this spot was disappointing . We have spent much less to have more food that tastes better. I was really looking forward to the homemade guacamole and this was one of the reasons why I made reservations in advance for this location, but they were out by 7:30pm. Thought it was pricey for what we got (small portions) and didn't love that they add 20% for gratuity when 5 or more people are dining. I got the steak enchiladas with green chile,my husband got the beef burrito and my teen daughter the fish tacos, and the rest kids meals. I would give my meal a 6, my husband gave his a 5, the fish tacos did get an 8. The margaritas did the job, but didn't taste very good. The staff was friendly so that was a plus and though the selection of baked goods left was small (the menu features over 20 desserts)we did enjoy the quad leches cupcake we took back to our hotel.
We had a tasty, substantial breakfast at a very fair price. The menu offers something for everyone.
Service good, food unappetizing. Baja fish tacos had no flavor.
Good fresh, authentic food in a nice (but loud) setting on the south side of Santa Fe.
Our party of seven (with two children) was parked in a high-traffic area but the serving staff was smooth and friendly, so it was no problem. We had a wide variety from the menu, and everyone was happy with the food and atmosphere. We'll be back.
The food was delicious with just the right amount of spice. And the staff is delightful.
The coconut pie with the macaroon crust is amazing!
Great restaurant with fantastic service & yummy food!
Southside came highly recommended but I'm not sure why. It's essentially an overpriced diner. Extremely noisy, with no attention to acoustics. Food was only so so. My Rib eye steak was very thin for a $25 price tag. My husband said his vegetable tacos were tasteless. Only our friend's fish and chips seemed adequate and priced right. While there were quite a few beer choices, there was only one wine on offer! We won't return considering the vast variety of eating choices in Santa fe.
The happy hour here is just an excellent bargain. A $5.00 margarita? Excellent!
We often eat here. The bacon is the best ever. The servers during the day are wonderful. It was a great experience.
We eat here often. We often go for breakfast or for dinner. We went this past Saturday and the place was packed, with one bartender, which was not near enough staff. We had a hard time getting his attention to place a drink order or to place a food order.
The Greek chicken salad was not very good. The chicken had too much gristle and fat. Luckily the waiter recommended a salad, which saved the day.
Our waiter was awesome and accommodated 13 of us! Open table reservation was the hit with our 6 adults and 7 hungry kids. The kids loved that they could have breakfast and adults loved the chili sauces! Cool art, cool vibe. 👍
Visited on recommendation from our hotel. What a fabulous experience. The food was amazing. Reserved a table thru Open Table...great option. We would visit again.
My husband and I eat at Plaza Cafe Southside often. I go by myself many days just to have their great breakfast. We went recently for dinner during Restaurant Week and the food was great and the price was amazing! We truly loved it.
Excellent meal as always; and benefiting Santa Fe Restaurant Week.
Anytime I Dine Here Is A+++++
The Gentleman Host Is Friendly, Efficient when available. The cafe has my favorite cupcakes ever! The waiters and waitresses are friendly, efficient and attentive. Frito Pie and Salads and Sandwiches and Burgers have All Been Excellent! Fast becoming a Favorite Cafe in SFe.
Food and service was good. Noise level was very energetic with large parties/group diners. Family oriented restaurant.
We would certainly go back.... good meal for the 5 of us after a day of skiing.
Consistently good service along with with freshly prepared food make this the only option in South Santa Fe. Whether it's breakfast, lunch, or dinner, Plaza Cafe is sure to satisfy anyone's tastes.
Great food and service. The breakfast menu has a lot of traditional New Mexican options. One of the few places that serve a good New Mexican breakfast. The lunch and dinner menu is also very wide and offers some good vegetarian choices as well. Drinks are very reasonable priced and beers are cheap during the happy hour.
The food is always great and the service attentive and efficient. We will return.
Excellent, fresh food with consistent service. This is our "go to" restaurant for sure! Ask for Antonio for particularly good service, although the entire waitstaff is fantastic. There's always a special cake on weekends! Run don't walk to Plaza Southside!!
