When we say "California-Style Beach Food" we mean the whole coast of California - from a Mendocino County food truck to Los Angeles health food to the best of Baja California!
We serve it up wholesome, fast, and with lots of love inside.
So grab some friends, throw some surfboards into your old VW microbus, take an imaginary drive down the coast –
"Cause at Playa Betty’s there’s always great food, cold drinks and summer never ends…"
Service was fast and on point. Food was delicious. We kept it simple with chips and guacamole as an app, but lots of toppings came with it. The pomegranate arils were a surprising treat! The Baja fish tacos were delicious! My friend enjoyed the shroom tacos. I would definitely visit Playa Betty’s again when I’m in the area.
Fantastic meal, three tacos (shrimp was amazing), rice and beans for $19.n Am I really in NYC? Drinks were delicious too.
As always, a delightful meal at Playa Betty's! It's great that they're open so late--we went at 10pm, after a movie--and at that time the noise level is a bit more reasonable. As a vegan, I really appreciate all the vegan options, especially their "vegan-ish" tacos with beans and rice. The service is quick and friendly, and the drinks are AWESOME. It's always a party at Playa Betty's!
We ate at Playa Betty’s prior to a concert at the Beacon Theatre. The food was fresh; the guacamole was fantastic, and I recommend the al pastor tacos. My only suggestion is that management turn down the music a few decibels; the space, while visually appealing, did not account for acoustics - therefore, with loud EDM / pop music, it was a challenge to hear conversation at the table. Nonetheless, I would certainly plan to return.
We were there for exactly 60 minutes when the hostess told us they had another reservation for this table and we had to leave.
Excellent food and service. Just a little cramped.
Love that this restaurant has vegan options that are actually creative and tasty! Some thought went into creating the vegan options which I am grateful. Will definitely be back.
This is not a place for good conversation due to music level. I wonder if advertising conversationally friendly hours would work? It may draw in some business/beyond young gen in?
Overall, really liked it!
Too noisy and crowded (even at 6:30pm) for this group of seniors...
Food was bad. Truly.
This is an upper west side gem! The food was tasty and plentiful and the service was excellent. Gluten free options were clearly marked, and the server said that the kitchen takes precautions so that the food is safe even for celiacs. Will definitely return.
Good food and good prices. Tables are super close together and the noise level is challenging. In addition to the noise from diners, there is music playing a few levels higher than it should.
Good and moderately priced food in a high energy environment. It’s more of a brunch place for 20 somethings run by 20 somethings.
Not from the area and made a reservation based on reviews. Not only did they not have our reservation, they tried to sit my wife and child at the loud bar that was covered in beer. Not the best first impression.
Later got moved to a table and enjoyed the rest of our meal. Would not repeat however.
We loved the palomas (grapefruit margaritas)! Our food was delicious too. The noise was deafening and it was hard to hear each other, but it was all happy noise. :>)
Been a few times... Like the ambience and the food. Maybe a little overpriced and the food is good but not outstanding. The drinks are stellar
The best way to describe Playa Betty's is: extremely loud and incredibly close...tables.
Always a fun time and enjoyed our server’s wit and cheerfulness! Our meals are always consistent and enjoyable. Great for gathering with friends and for families, too!
Cute place. Great food with lots of options (even vegan options).
Guacamole was terrible -- some nerve charging $14. The rest of the food was just OK -- place seems to exist for people have someplace to eat before the Beacon but that doesn't make it right. Way too loud to talk comfortably, cramped tables. Competition should send this clip joint out of business.
Great place to go before a concert at the Beacon - would have had a higher rating but the so-called "salsa" we asked for for a late-comer had just arrived was anything but . . . (not salsa?)
Service and ambience was very good. A good hang out for the local scene, lively.
Happy Hour is a good deal. Grapefruit margarita was yummy!
Food was disappointing. BBQ and Ahi Tuna tacos were poor. BBQ was very tough and the Ahi Tuna in the Ahi Tuna taco was over-cooked and a tiny portion. Baja Fish taco was good. I would go back again, this time I would order one burrito for two...they are huge, but light, with a couple of apps. The cauliflower was by far the best app we ate...delicious with a nice spice kick.
Cesar Chavez Salad was extremely bad and had missing items
Amazing pink cactus mimosas!
Tacos are excellent. Guacamole is very meh, even with all the add-ins provided. But overall a great dinner. Hope the weather allows one more patio dining weekend so we can try that!
Great, as always!
What a fun gem! Great food! We had tacos, grilled corn and the Dharma bowl. All delicious! We will be back.
My son’s food was brought out 10 minutes before everybody else’s on a dirty tray with cold tater tots. Then adult food was brought out and inedible. The server didn’t seem to even notice we left it all there...or maybe they didn’t care. Will never go back.
Food was very good and reasonable. The waitress was great. Went before show at the Beacon - perfect location. Would definitely go again.
High energy soundtrack, good food, friendly and attentive staff
Awesome! Super crowded but they were so attentive and efficient! Very nice experience.
Margarita ok. Guacamole excellent. Did not like 2 of the 3 tacos ordered.
Great food and service! I always bring out of town guests to Playa Betty’s for brunch! It’s a fave!
I liked it! Good food options and great margaritas!
The noise level was unbearable, and the food was mediocre. Really disappointed.
Good food and service!
-Don't expect a quiet dinner -
I got sick from the fish taco which has never happened before
There is no management present at the restaurant. Main courses arrive shortly after appetizers. Too bad, the food was decent, but there is no customer focus whatsoever.
Post NYC marathon tacos were great
the food was great and our server was awesome - i will definitely be back
