This restaurant is a nice jewel barely of dthe UCLA campus. We went here for dinner after my graduation and wanted somewhere nice within walking distance of Royce Hall. It has a classy atmosphere, great cocktails, good food and amazing service. Highly recommend.
Food very basic. Nothing special. Very nice staff and seating. Not value for money.
The menu is really wonderful.
Great place for business meetings and very convenient to UCLA employees and local businesses.
Great food and service
I love the vegan burger! My absolute favorite! I do not like the big plank that it's served on - it's too big and a bit wobbly. A normal plate is fine. The service has improved and I am so happy it's nearby. I love to entertain my business guests there for lunch.
Poor waiter service and food preparation.
Met on a 12pm reservation for 6. 5 were on time, 1 ran 6min late.
Group was seated at 12:10pm. Table for 6 was prepared, and water served. No waiter for 10 min. Got up and asked front desk to send a waiter. Ordered at 12:25pm. At 12:45pm no food. No waiter. Got up again, and asked Front Desk. Food arrived at 12:48pm. Ate as quickly as possible. Exceeded lunch hour by 20 min.
Plateia was introduced by a friend, who is a UCLA academic. Tucked away in what can be a large, rather anonymous feeling and sterile side of the UCLA campus, Plateia is a welcome site for someone looking to eat on campus at what turns out to be a well-kept secret restaurant. There were 7 of us, and we were able to get an enclosed private room--at no extra charge. The food--from the burgers, hummus and pita, kale salads and roasted chicken--were extremely tasty, especially for the kind of food fare one usually finds on university campuses. Also, the acoustics are so good that you can actually hear your dinner companion's conversation. A thoroughly enjoyable experience, as we were there for a conference weekend. We ate there three times in two days!!!
Amazing space and food!
The food is really good, but it takes SO insanely long that it stresses the table conversation. If you have a solid 2+ hours set aside before a concert at Royce Hall or a film or a lecture on the UCLA campus, you MIGHT get there on time. It’s a great addition to campus - just wish the service had a bit more snap!
the food here is really delicious. I wish there was just a little more variety.
What did we do without Plateia at UCLA? Every faculty member is wondering! There are many good options on the menu and I have not been disappointed with the the food or the service in the over a year that it has been open. My one criticism is that tipping is not allowed (all the waitstaff are UCLA). Surely someone at Anderson can figure out a Tipping Program that would help fund/offset student tuition?
I come here often for business related to UCLA. The food and service is fabulous, particularly the service. My issue this time and last time is all the tables were reserved that were bright and sunny so they tried to put us far back in the restaurant at a booth/chair type seating. I am tall but the booth so low it was at my chest. We needed up sitting at the bar. I could have done that without a reservation. When we finished many of the tables reserved were still there. This should not be the case ever.
There were three of us and one had a great swordfish dinner, one had mediocre pressed chicken, and one had overly salty and tasteless lamb tangine. The desserts were miniscule in size. For $10 I would have expected more than a tiny cannoli and a small scoop of ice cream. The cannoli looked and tasted nothing like the cannolis I have had in the past. The restaurant has the ambiance of a cafeteria. It's very open and cold (both feeling and temperature).
I would not return to this restaurant.
The food and service was awesome. The portions are a bit small, but I got a lot of courses so it worked out well and I really enjoyed it.
Plateia's vegan burger was amazing; I'm not a vegan and it tasted just like it was a beef burger. It had a ton of flavor. Will definitely go back!
Excellent dinner and great server! The feel was elegant yet comfortable.
Great, varied breakfast items. Lemon ricotta pancakes were fantastic. Very convenient if touring UCLA
The atmosphere fed more than just my hunger for food! My server was so kind and accommodating.
I’ve never been disappointed with my meals at Plateia. While the menu is small, there is something for everyone. The servers are always very knowledgeable and honest when describing the dishes. The service is friendly and prompt. My only disappointment this last time was the radio station broadcast. We had a 5:00 reservation; the restaurant was pretty empty at that hour, and the broadcast was SO loud and so intrusive. The manager was successful in asking the broadcaster to turn down the volume, and I understand that this may not be an ongoing program at Plateia.
During a cold and damp week in Los Angeles, the Moussaka was a perfect lunch - hot and savory, with a simple arugula salad for contrast. Nice presentation in a small kettle-style dish.
When if first opened it was good. But something happened since I was there last. My food was truly awful. So bad I sent it away...never done that before ever. The service is incredibly slow and indifferent...2 hours to eat a basic meal. Wow, I'm done with this place.
A real gem in the UCLA/Westwood area: diverse menu with fresh ingredients, attentive service with a professional bar. Elegant decor and noise level sufficiently quiet for normal conversation.
Bad service at the bar. Everything else OK.
Food was well cooked and nicely presented. My husband had swordfish on a bed of ratatouille. I had a tricolore salad with salmon added. The greens were fresh and the dressing excellent. The salmon added for $8 was a good size and the seasoning was tasty on the pan-cooked fish. The service is well-meaning and nice, but not as accomplished as the cooking staff. Perhaps a bit of extra attention in the serving area would elevate this restaurant to excellent all around.
Service and food very good.
A great place to meet for drinks and gastro pub food.
Always on our list Westwood.
Overall dinner was good - noise level a bit louder than usual. My burger was a more medium than medium-rare - but it was till good. Fries were great and pizza was delicious.
Soup, cocktail, salad, appetizers are good, but the quality of main dishes need improvement. Waiter/waitress need to pay more attention to water refill/drinks etc.
Service was poor. I had to continually ask for the server to bring things to us that we previously requested. The restaurant was not busy at this time either. He seemed young and inexperienced. Perhaps some more training would be helpful.
We dined with friends during the week before a concert at Royce. The service and food was very good, with a variety of choices of meals.
Always good and relaxing while on UCLA campus
How did I not know about this restaurant before! My friend and I enjoyed our meal before attending a show at The James Bridges Theater on the UCLA campus. We wanted to park only once, so it was an active 15 minute walk across the campus (which we enjoyed because UCLA is beautiful) but you may choose to park at the hotel in which the restaurant resides and then drive elsewhere. (We chose to Uber back to the original parking lot because we lingered too long and wanted to be on-time for the show.) The food was outstanding and the staff more than attentive. Plus: no tipping allowed. It is not inexpensive but worth every penny. This is now my go-to place when attending shows in Westwood.
Went before a basketball game which was at 8pm. Our reservation was for 7pm and we were out and in our seats for the start of the game. Food was satisfying. Good for people watching
Could not seat us, ate at the bar
This is the first time I've eaten at Plateia on a UCLA game night and I was surprised that they had a limited menu. Everything tasted great, but I was just hoping for their regular menu. I guess it helps them be more efficient when they are so packed so it makes sense. Burger was excellent.
Game day menu was average
Plateia is convenient and very modern/comfortable in design. The menu boasts locally sourced, fresh, healthy food which tasted fine....nothing special and not especially flavorful (lamb sliders were mostly bread; chicken avocado sandwich was fine, but again, nothing special). The vegetables in the Greek salad were very fresh — this was the highlight. The servers were friendly but seemed so unfamiliar with the menu that he had to go back to consult the chef on 3 separate occasions (would have been nice if he’d asked all 3 questions on the first trip back to the kitchen, right?) so our lunch lasted longer than expected but then we felt pushed to leave when the bill was dropped while we weren’t even done eating or able to consider dessert. Not the best and will probably head down to Westwood village for a nice business lunch in the future.
We arrived to find out the restaurant doesn't serve dinner on Saturday nights. You can only eat at the bar. Please make note of that with your services.
Good luck as always. There's something for everyone. The soups are always good, and there's a nice variety of small dishes and salads.
It took forever to get our meals both for dinner and for breakfast. There was a large conference going on at the hotel however that should not have affected our dinner in the restaurant. They were apologetic but it still took way too long.
