Plateia at UCLA
Lunch: Mon-Fri: 11:00am - 2:00pm; Dinner: Mon–Fri: 5:00pm - 9:00pm
Saturday & Sunday: Lounge open serving our "Weekend Menu" from 11am-close
The service is always a bit odd. More than one person offers water, takes orders, removes plates, etc. and I never know who my wait person is. This could be improved. Otherwise, they are very nice to customers.
The food is usually great, the ambience fantastic.
Beautiful comfortable setting
Food was good but not great
Service was awkward
Very pleasant restaurant on the UCLA campus, excellent location for attendees at Royce Hall and other campus events. Wide range of food, full bar, pleasant atmosphere, which allows conversation. Our wait staff were lovely, a bit inexperienced. Tipping is NOT allowed, so there is a small financial incentive as well.
Good margarita. Great pasta. Nice setting. Pleasant staff.
I would love to recommend this restaurant more highly, but their treatment of vegans and utter dearth of vegan options (only one exists on the menu) makes that impossible. I am not going to go back to keep getting the same Impossible burger that I could get at Fatburger blocks away. It shows a real lack of sophistication, respect for patrons and concern for animals and the environment. Quite tacky.
The food at Plateia is absolutely delicious! We ate dinner here 3 nights in a row, and every dish was superb!
Awesome food and great service, love Plateia!!!
The seasonal and local ingredients with healthy and authentic preparation made the dishes especially enjoyable. The staff was attentive and knowledgable about the preparation of the food and offered good advise regarding special items on the menu.
It would get 5 stars if they allowed corkage. Otherwise it was great. Food and service were excellent.
Very good service. Chicken sandwich was very good, also Greek salad. However, note to chef: feta cheese should be mixed in small bites throughout the salad, not served as two large lumps on top.
The manager (Joe) and server (Gabby) made it special for our parents' 50th wedding anniversary. Service and food were excellent. We are UCLA alumni (generations) and enjoy coming to campus but it's even better now that Plateia is there for us to enjoy a highly memorable meal with family.
Service was attentive and friendly. Conversation was possible as noise level was low. Food was well presented and attractive as well as tasting delicious. A small menu but enough of a choice to please all in our party.
The inside dining area is functional and the outdoor dining area is beautiful under the trees.
We will return!
Very comfortable. Needs more creative salad options. Staff is great. Been there for dinner three times in a month or two
This place is located in the Luskin Hotel at UCLA. The food and atmosphere are great!
Parking can be challenging as it is part of the hotel. They also have a weird “no tipping” policy.
Service was very poor, sides were brought first and pizzas last. We had to pour our own wine from the bottles we bought. Scallops were horrible.
We got lost on the way there and your staff was vary patient and helpful guiding us to the restaurant. Our daughter was excited to find the Impossible Burger on your menu! She loved it. My salad and my Husband's burger were creative and delicious as well!
The food here is exceptional as was the service. This is a great place to have a business meeting.
We all enjoyed our meal.
Robert is a terrific waiter.
Favorite was the lamb tagine. Salads also very good, and there is a nice variety of cocktails and wines. Service is friendly, if somewhat unpolished and distracted. No tipping, which makes this a great value. 10-15 minutes stroll to the Geffen Playhouse, Royce Hall and Freud Playhouse.
The food was surprisingly well-prepared. And though at first we were surprised by the prices, this more than was offset by the fact that we were informed the restaurant was a 'gratuity free zone,' hence we were asked not to tip.
This restaurant is a nice jewel barely of dthe UCLA campus. We went here for dinner after my graduation and wanted somewhere nice within walking distance of Royce Hall. It has a classy atmosphere, great cocktails, good food and amazing service. Highly recommend.
Food very basic. Nothing special. Very nice staff and seating. Not value for money.
The menu is really wonderful.
Great place for business meetings and very convenient to UCLA employees and local businesses.
Great food and service
I love the vegan burger! My absolute favorite! I do not like the big plank that it's served on - it's too big and a bit wobbly. A normal plate is fine. The service has improved and I am so happy it's nearby. I love to entertain my business guests there for lunch.
Poor waiter service and food preparation.
Met on a 12pm reservation for 6. 5 were on time, 1 ran 6min late.
Group was seated at 12:10pm. Table for 6 was prepared, and water served. No waiter for 10 min. Got up and asked front desk to send a waiter. Ordered at 12:25pm. At 12:45pm no food. No waiter. Got up again, and asked Front Desk. Food arrived at 12:48pm. Ate as quickly as possible. Exceeded lunch hour by 20 min.
Plateia was introduced by a friend, who is a UCLA academic. Tucked away in what can be a large, rather anonymous feeling and sterile side of the UCLA campus, Plateia is a welcome site for someone looking to eat on campus at what turns out to be a well-kept secret restaurant. There were 7 of us, and we were able to get an enclosed private room--at no extra charge. The food--from the burgers, hummus and pita, kale salads and roasted chicken--were extremely tasty, especially for the kind of food fare one usually finds on university campuses. Also, the acoustics are so good that you can actually hear your dinner companion's conversation. A thoroughly enjoyable experience, as we were there for a conference weekend. We ate there three times in two days!!!
Amazing space and food!
The food is really good, but it takes SO insanely long that it stresses the table conversation. If you have a solid 2+ hours set aside before a concert at Royce Hall or a film or a lecture on the UCLA campus, you MIGHT get there on time. It’s a great addition to campus - just wish the service had a bit more snap!
the food here is really delicious. I wish there was just a little more variety.
What did we do without Plateia at UCLA? Every faculty member is wondering! There are many good options on the menu and I have not been disappointed with the the food or the service in the over a year that it has been open. My one criticism is that tipping is not allowed (all the waitstaff are UCLA). Surely someone at Anderson can figure out a Tipping Program that would help fund/offset student tuition?
I come here often for business related to UCLA. The food and service is fabulous, particularly the service. My issue this time and last time is all the tables were reserved that were bright and sunny so they tried to put us far back in the restaurant at a booth/chair type seating. I am tall but the booth so low it was at my chest. We needed up sitting at the bar. I could have done that without a reservation. When we finished many of the tables reserved were still there. This should not be the case ever.
There were three of us and one had a great swordfish dinner, one had mediocre pressed chicken, and one had overly salty and tasteless lamb tangine. The desserts were miniscule in size. For $10 I would have expected more than a tiny cannoli and a small scoop of ice cream. The cannoli looked and tasted nothing like the cannolis I have had in the past. The restaurant has the ambiance of a cafeteria. It's very open and cold (both feeling and temperature).
I would not return to this restaurant.
The food and service was awesome. The portions are a bit small, but I got a lot of courses so it worked out well and I really enjoyed it.
Plateia's vegan burger was amazing; I'm not a vegan and it tasted just like it was a beef burger. It had a ton of flavor. Will definitely go back!
Excellent dinner and great server! The feel was elegant yet comfortable.
Great, varied breakfast items. Lemon ricotta pancakes were fantastic. Very convenient if touring UCLA
The atmosphere fed more than just my hunger for food! My server was so kind and accommodating.
I’ve never been disappointed with my meals at Plateia. While the menu is small, there is something for everyone. The servers are always very knowledgeable and honest when describing the dishes. The service is friendly and prompt. My only disappointment this last time was the radio station broadcast. We had a 5:00 reservation; the restaurant was pretty empty at that hour, and the broadcast was SO loud and so intrusive. The manager was successful in asking the broadcaster to turn down the volume, and I understand that this may not be an ongoing program at Plateia.
