Plateia at UCLA Ratings and Reviews
This is the first time I've eaten at Plateia on a UCLA game night and I was surprised that they had a limited menu. Everything tasted great, but I was just hoping for their regular menu. I guess it helps them be more efficient when they are so packed so it makes sense. Burger was excellent.
Plateia is convenient and very modern/comfortable in design. The menu boasts locally sourced, fresh, healthy food which tasted fine....nothing special and not especially flavorful (lamb sliders were mostly bread; chicken avocado sandwich was fine, but again, nothing special). The vegetables in the Greek salad were very fresh — this was the highlight. The servers were friendly but seemed so unfamiliar with the menu that he had to go back to consult the chef on 3 separate occasions (would have been nice if he’d asked all 3 questions on the first trip back to the kitchen, right?) so our lunch lasted longer than expected but then we felt pushed to leave when the bill was dropped while we weren’t even done eating or able to consider dessert. Not the best and will probably head down to Westwood village for a nice business lunch in the future.
Plateia in located in the beautiful Luskin Conference Center on the UCLA campus. You might think it'd be somewhat institutional, but the lobby and garden look like those of a luxury hotel. The garden is a great place to have a drink. The restaurant is top-notch. Creative cuisine with some standards, the food is excellent. The service is thoughtful and attentive.
Food is good, staff affable although of varying competence levels--understandable as the servers tend to be students. Most importantly, the restaurant and bar are way understaffed, and service can be slow. I like the feel of the place--the design is excellent--and will keep coming back.
Just lovely! For a starter we had the charred octopus and it was very tender with a smoky flavor. I had the salmon and it was delicately prepared with a crispy skin! So crisp and delicious that I saved a bite for last. I highly recommend it -- it came with fingerling potatoes and "essence of pea" which was a very sweet and smoky puree. My friend had the lamb tagine, and has been raving about how flavorful and tender it was. The only caveat is that two of our table mates had the ribeye filet, and it was so over-cooked that, regrettably, they had to send it back. Not to worry, the staff were very gracious and replaced the two dinners with properly cooked meat (and fresh plates). We all tried a different dessert and everyone was very pleased with their choice! The mousse tort was sublime, rich yet light and not cloyingly sweet.
This is a great place for leisurely and elegant dining. (Please note, if you want FAST service, this is not the place to go. Try McDonald's or In-and-Out.) Unlike some of the reviewers, I didn't think our wait for food was exceptionally long, but we also were out for an evening to celebrate with a friend. We didn't feel rushed and weren't in a rush. Beautiful ambiance, friendly and efficient wait staff. I am looking forward to returning. Thanks for the great time, Plateia!
The food was just OK, nothing to write home about but fine. Service was atrocious. A different server handled every step of our meal and we waited FOREVER to order, get served and get the check. After the food was delivered, no one ever returned to ask how everything was and we all wanted more water but didn't even get offered a refill at any point. We finished our meal and sat in front of empty plates for 10 min before having to flag down a server for the bill. This is the second experience like this that I've had here and I won't be back. I love the idea of a tip free environment and am fine with paying higher prices for the food but not if service is bad. Removing the tip takes away the motivation to provide good service so I'd rather just tip.
Truly, a neighborhood gem. Imaginative dishes with fresh, quality ingredients. Service from Robert was outstanding. He is very knowledgeable about the food and the wine and a delight to talk to. There is a no tipping policy at the restaurant and there is no service charge. Prices are reasonable. You can get 2 hours of visitor parking in Structure 8 next to the restaurant location at the Luskin Conference Center for $6, otherwise it is $12 for all day. The restaurant has a very relaxed atmosphere and the Conference Center is a beautiful building with wonderful original artwork on display. Have enjoyed the beet salad, lamb, short rib, salmon and burger.
We had lunch at Plateia while visiting UCLA. We ordered Chicken BLT, Quattro Formaggio, Barrel Burger and Rustic Grilled Cheese. The pizza and all the sandwiches were delicious. Our server Tucker was great. We would definitely return there on our next visit.
The ambience is delightful and the staff are very nice. We waited somewhat longer than expected for someone to come by and take our order. Food is beautifully presented but portions are relatively modest. Deserts are a treat but are also small enough that one doesn't feel guilty having them.
Second time visiting this great restaurant. Both times prior to the theatre.Great salads, too much for one person.Main courses both times delicious,we had scallops and salmon.
Wonderful ice cream, just one scoop, great flavors.
And the great thing is that tip is included.
We'll go back there again and again.
