About Plantation Gardens
Plantation Gardens Restaurant & Bar is located in a beautifully restored plantation manor on the Hawaiian Island of Kauai. Dating back to the 1930's, the estate once served as the plantation manager's home for Hawaii's first sugar plantation, the Koloa plantation. Later, the estate was acquired by the Moir Family who built the world famous gardens that surround the restaurant. Our menu reflects the heritage of old plantation Hawaii, which celebrates the abundance and beauty of the Hawaiian Islands. Our fresh fish is caught daily by local fishermen in waters off Kauai. We use organically grown vegetables and herbs picked fresh on nearby farms and from our own gardens. Guests may choose to dine on our lanai overlooking tranquil gardens, lily ponds and tropical foliage or in our exquisitely refurbished dining room which features gorgeous Brazilian cherry wood floors, woven bamboo tables and plantation ceiling fans.

Plantation Gardens Ratings and Reviews
Plantation Gardens looks better than it tastes. While the garden setting is lovely and eating on the veranda is very colonial-islander, Gardens doesn't deliver on the food or value fronts. We chose to eat here on our last night in Hawaii because we thought it would be memorable send off, instead we spent the next hour discussing what a disappointment it was. While my pot roast was good, it was no better than I have had at Jersey and California diners. My wife had a generous plate of beef sliders, but, again, nothing to write home about, and our travel companions complained their fresh was dry. The best thing I had? Courvoisier to finish the meal.
Enjoyed this meal from start to finish. Great service. Beautiful setting. Good variety on the menu. Entrees were delicious and well prepared and the dessert was outstanding! This was a great spot to spend our last evening on Kauai. Will hope to return again someday!
Disappointing- the pot roast was great but my wife struggled to find seafood in her Seafood Lau Lau. I would not recommend this dish! Full of been sprouts and grated vegetables, a small piece of fish, a scallop And 2 prawns - not value for money Ambience and service very good.
I was given the wrong entree and had to wait 15 minutes for the correct one. I was not comped for the entree or even a glass of wine. My friend’s fish was over cooked. The setting is nice but it’s not worth the money for mediocre food and bad service.
If you're allergic to cats or frogs, stay away. There is a pond outside and local cats like to hover for scraps. If you're a cat lover, it's enjoyable. If you're allergic, you may want to sit inside. The food was very good. I recommend the sweet potato rolls, delish! Lovely views from the outdoor porch seating. A little pricey, so it's not an everyday kind of restaurant, but it's great for special occasions.
Outstanding in every respect - we had our anniversary dinner here 3 years ago, loved it and it hasn't changed. We were seated within one minute of arriving for our reservation; excellent varied menu - meat/fish/vegetarian, very good wine and cocktail list; truly beautiful surroundings of manicured, extensive and highly varied plants and flowers; quiet setting allowing conversation, and near the ocean. Five stars.
The overall experience was really good. We had just gotten married and my aunt and uncle wanted to take us to dinner. After searching yelp and asking advice from others, they suggested this restaurant. It was beautiful and we were seated immediately at a very nice table. Both couples had ordered a Cesar salad to split before dinner. My aunt told the server she wanted to have the Ahi Poke appetizer as her main entree. Shortly after ordering, her Ahi Poke arrived. She reminded them she wanted it with our entrees and after her salad. They took it away. Our entrees showed up with no salads. The entrees were amazing (two rib plates) and nut crusted fish for me. My aunt’s Ahi Poke arrived again. The bous’ Ribs were amazing. My fish was a little over cooked, but still very good. My aunt’s Ahi Poke was disgustingly salted. I like Ahi and I like salt, but it was too much. We told a server (not ours) about not getting our salads. He said he would comp a round of drinks. We ordered the baked Hawaii to share for desert, which was amazing.
I would definitely come again. The goods far outweighed the bads. When our bill came, we weee not charged for any drinks. We had two rounds. They were very accommodating and made up for their mistakes. Perhaps having the Ahi Poke as an appetizer as it was intended, would have been a better choice.
We’ve visited Kauai the past three years, and finally tried this restaurant. We almost didn’t because it’s rated $$$$ on your website. But after looking up the menu, it wasn’t any more expensive than the other restaurants we had been going to. Even the Beach House is rated $$$. I think you should change this rating so it doesn’t scare off other patrons. We loved the ambiance, the service, and the food was amazing! So Good! We had dinner here twice. The second time was for our anniversary which I stated in our reservation, but nobody acknowledged this special occasion. So we were disappointed with that. The food and service was still good.
My wife and I keep returning to this wonderful restaurant every year when we visit Kauai. The Plantation ambience on the lanai takes one back a hundred years to a very different time. The grounds are fun to explore, the food is amazing, and this is just a marvelous place to relax and converse with your partner...
Came here for dinner while staying at the Grand Hyatt so very close by. My husband and I split the Lau Lau and pot roast, which was a recommendation from our server. The Lau Lau was good but the pot roast was amazing. Topped it all off with lilikoi cheesecake and mac nut creme brûlée which were both great. The garden is beautiful and our server was delightful.
After reading a few less than flattering reviews my wife and I decided to see if the restaurant had improved. We were celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary and had dinner. We were very pleasantly surprised with the caring servers (Cherish & Victoria) and the quality of the food and drinks. Everything is understandably rather expensive on this island, but we felt the quality, service, and ambience of this restaurant was right on. In response to an earlier review, the bartender does indeed know how to make a great martini!
The grounds are very beautiful, with an array of varied flora. My wife and I each had a separate meal; while she very much enjoyed her meal (stir-fry), my meal (shrimp, scallops and fish wrapped n a leaf with vegetables) was just okay! The fish was very dry and lacked flavor, the shrimp were very small in both the stir-fry and my meal. I had the Caesar salad, which consisted of romaine leaves laid lightly on the plate with an ever so miniscule hint of dressing added to the leaves. A very thin piece of baked or fried tasteless bread (not sure how it was prepared) was on the center of the salad. My wife's salad which had watermelon with other greens was very good, with a perfect amount of dressing and was very delicious. For dessert we shared a slice of their brownie ice cream pie, which was very good. I must admit, the brownie lacked a chocolate taste, as well as it was not very sweet. However the ice cream was outstanding. Our server was very attentive and was very well versed in the menu, and cocktail/wine selections as well. I selected a drink that was offered as a Margarita with a special chili fusion which I believe the hose makes (I may be wrong on the name or type of Tequila). I had hoped for a great drink with a hint of heat and the character taste of lime and agave, but the drink fell short of my expectations. The drink was different, but I admit, I would not order it again, or recommend it. I would like to visit your restaurant again in the future to try your other dishes. I hope your men's bathroom is soon complete with the renovations, as it is needed. It is very difficult to find the restaurant from the main road into the grounds. I highly recommend better signage. in speaking with your staff, they too said this is a common problem reported by other guests. thank you for an enjoyable evening.
Good food with an emphasis on fresh fish and other local Hawaiian produce. We enjoyed mahi mahi over a refreshing slaw and a salad with fresh local shrimp. Atmosphere is in a colonial-style house with a veranda looking out over a garden. Good tropical mixed drinks and decent wine list. Service eas above avetage. Great location for large groups.
