About Plantation Gardens
Plantation Gardens Restaurant & Bar is located in a beautifully restored plantation manor on the Hawaiian Island of Kauai. Dating back to the 1930's, the estate once served as the plantation manager's home for Hawaii's first sugar plantation, the Koloa plantation. Later, the estate was acquired by the Moir Family who built the world famous gardens that surround the restaurant. Our menu reflects the heritage of old plantation Hawaii, which celebrates the abundance and beauty of the Hawaiian Islands. Our fresh fish is caught daily by local fishermen in waters off Kauai. We use organically grown vegetables and herbs picked fresh on nearby farms and from our own gardens. Guests may choose to dine on our lanai overlooking tranquil gardens, lily ponds and tropical foliage or in our exquisitely refurbished dining room which features gorgeous Brazilian cherry wood floors, woven bamboo tables and plantation ceiling fans.

Plantation Gardens Ratings and Reviews
Our first visit to the Plantation Gardens, Crab Rangoon was very good! We both ordered the Grilled Mongchong and it was grilled perfectly! The Asian coleslaw was exceptional! The cheesecake was creamy & delicious! Our favorite was the Macnut Vanilla Creme Brûlée ! It was the best Creme Brûlée we have had! Would recommend this restaurant and the gardens are beautiful! Will definitely visit again!!
We were not impressed. Let me first say that the gardens were beautiful. Outside patio seating is very nice. We ordered the poke as an appetizer and it was very bland. Bread basket was stale. I ordered the meatloaf and had high hopes based the pot toast based on reviews and it was just okay. My husband ordered seafood medley and said it was pretty tasteless too. We will not be returning to this restaurant.
Started with sweet potato rolls ($6)...good, but not worth the price....
The Lau Lau, an authentic Hawaiian cuisine dish with fresh fish, large shrimp, jumbo scallops, julienne vegetables wrapped in a ti leaf, steamed brown rice with furikake, wasabi aioli was well prepared and very tasty.
The local encrusted catch with smoked quinoa crust, creamed quinoa, asparagus, tomato chili oil was served hot and also very tasty.
Corkage was $15, bringing your own wine is a viable option.
Party of 8 and all were very happy with their dinner choices. For pupus the big winner from everyone was the crab rangoons. Very different and fabulous dipping sauce. The Pot Roast got rave reviews along with the Seafood Lau Lau. The grilled fish with the Asian slaw was my selection and was a great combination. The outdoor porch seating made the finishing touch. Definitely will return.
very nice location and ambiance. We had the edamame and potstickers to start, very nice. Had fish stir fry and crusted local fish for mains, both were good but the ho fun was more pasta than rice noodle in style, still tasty. Kids menu had the basics to keep the kid happy.
The ambience of the restaurant is really quite pleasant. The gardens are immaculately maintained, lush greenery with well thought out lighting.
Our server Nelson was able to accommodate my wife’s dietary restrictions even though the menu is sort of fixed on a daily basis. The space is spacious and one can have a conversation without hearing others or vice versa. Only reason I give it a 4 vs 5 dot rating because the food and drinks were above average at best. The main course of grilled fish was cold and chewy and the drinks (at least mine) was devoid of much flavor...perhaps a poor choice on my part. The appetizers and dessert saved the day for us.
Summary - couldn’t have the pot roast, food choice was okay but the evening was saved by everything else.
Christmas dinner. Service very slow. Some people got their appetizers long before others at table. When they were finished theirs others came. Same with dinner. Dinner special arrived raw. Sent back for 2 diners. Came back raw again, one had been microwaved to basically nothing. Same meals should not be brought back. Who microwaves fish??? Finished plates not cleared. Asked for manager, waited 15 minutes, had to seek him out. Whole experience pathetic. Even drinks watered down and just not good. I have been here before and it was a better experience, but just not that good for price.
We began the evening sitting at the bar and enjoyed the bartenders’ conversations with patrons. The maitais were wonderful. At our table, service was excellent and so was the food. The evening ended with a delicious desert. Everything is made there, including the pickles in the fried pickles appetizer. We will be back often.
This was our favorite restaurant that we ate at on vacation in Kauai. The food was fresh and delicious and perfectly prepared. We all loved our meals. The fish was exceptionally fresh and tasty. It's one of the few places that was actually worth the money it cost to go there. I'd highly recommend
consistently good restaurant, Excellent menu choices from appetizers, salads, main courses and deserts at fair prices. Restaurant has a beautiful setting of their gardens
The noise level is reasonably low, as this is not one of those over crowded restaurants
This is one of our favorites on the island, but the waitstaff on a Monday night was not up to par. Our drinks came late and when we ordered a glass of wine with our dinners, I had to ask someone where they were because we'd almost finished our main course. They need more than one bartendar or better service!
The restaurant has lost a lot of it's old Kauai charm now with a large portion of the space having been converted to a bar. Along with that, the selection and quality of the food, along with the service, has also slipped significantly. Having been going to this restaurant for many years, we were disappointed at our experience on this last visit.
This is the second time we've enjoyed the Plantation Gardens in a few days. The staff is very friendly, and the food and scenery can't be beat. For what you pay for a meal, this is a great value. It's reasonable. And they'd be easily justified charging more because of the outstanding setting and scenery. The menu is varied. I really liked the Black Pepper Tofu, which was huge and delicious. (Interestingly, there's no black pepper in it, to my knowledge). But I was looking for vegan, and this fit the bill. All in all, good food, a very nice setting, and friendly staff. What more could you want?
The service, while well-intentioned, was less than hoped for. Our order was somewhat mis-taken, resulting in the food coming out in a funny order, and there was little communication with us about the mixup. Additionally, we were sitting for more than 10 min before a server introduced herself or offered us water. I wouldn’t go back.
My wife and I dined here on a Sunday in early December 2017. She had the quinoa-crusted fish and I had the fish with asian slaw and lilikoi reduction. We split a lilikoi cheesecake for dessert. Food and server were both good. Be sure to tour the grounds and see the extensive orchid collection.
Good food & service! My niece chose the Furikake Fries which were really good! We also got the Crab Rangoons which were amazing! Ribeye & Grilled Monchong was really good. The Asian Slaw that came with the fish was so tasty! For desserts, we got the Baked Hawaiian, Lilikoi Cheesecake & Creme Brûlée. All were delicious! We will definitely recommend this to friends & will be back soon!
I was newly impressed by the Plantation Gardens. I've been coming here for years, but it seems the menu is more carefully crafted for vegetarians than before, and the servings are more hefty. Overall, the menu is well varied for everyone. Our waiter, Kai, was delightful, and even the water server was friendly. The setting - in the gardens of The Kiahuna Plantation Resort - can't be beat for its serene atmosphere. All in all, The Plantation provides a very satisfying dining experience
We decided to eat here the last night of our trip and were very disappointed. The vegetables in the Laulau were practically raw and fish was very fishy. Overall food was not good and the ambiance was meh. It was raining so they had the screens down so we couldn't see any of the garden. There was also a cat roaming around. My whole family is allergic to cats so it was very unappetizing as it kept coming to our table for scraps. Not an elegant restaurant. Has a diner feel to it.
