About Plantation Gardens
Plantation Gardens Restaurant & Bar is located in a beautifully restored plantation manor on the Hawaiian Island of Kauai. Dating back to the 1930's, the estate once served as the plantation manager's home for Hawaii's first sugar plantation, the Koloa plantation. Later, the estate was acquired by the Moir Family who built the world famous gardens that surround the restaurant. Our menu reflects the heritage of old plantation Hawaii, which celebrates the abundance and beauty of the Hawaiian Islands. Our fresh fish is caught daily by local fishermen in waters off Kauai. We use organically grown vegetables and herbs picked fresh on nearby farms and from our own gardens. Guests may choose to dine on our lanai overlooking tranquil gardens, lily ponds and tropical foliage or in our exquisitely refurbished dining room which features gorgeous Brazilian cherry wood floors, woven bamboo tables and plantation ceiling fans.

Plantation Gardens Ratings and Reviews
First of all, when I called to confirm my reservation over the phone the guy I spoke with had an attitude and told me he couldn’t find my Rez and that they were completely booked up for the night. So I said why do you have it as an option to book on your website? I booked it ahead of time for a REASON. Anywho, when I arrived I beleive it was the same guy because he gave me no problems when I mentioned my name and sat my boyfriend and I way in the back around a crowded area, but as the locals that we are we don’t complain about that kind of stuff. Our server was really sweet! The food wasn’t good at all, it had no flavor what so ever. My boyfriend got the Ribeye and I got
The special, crab stuffed monchong. While eating, it was very disturbing to see a WILD CAT running around back and forth around the restaurant & by our table (gross). We could’ve sworn that the employees seen it to and did nothing about it. They’re lucky that we weren’t tourist because we all know tourist love to complain. Luckily, we had a gift certificate so we didn’t have to pay for everything.
We have dined here in past years and enjoyed it. But the redo and expansion of the bar area is excellent. Happy hour is very happy now! Great bartender, Brenden! Waitress, Tori, very good. Even the “water boy” was super attentive and fun. If you are new to Hawaii have the Lau Lau.
Second visit in a week. Pot roast was recommended first visit . Dry. Mentioned it to server , no offer for second try. Partners fish dish and salad excellent. Second visit salads very good. My seafood very good ,partners fish very dry. Server offered to try again and mention it to chef. Passed on the second try but happy with the offer. John.
We went here many years ago; at the time, they were one of only a few choices in Kauai on open table. We recall a nice dinner in pleasant surroundings, so we thought it would be nice to go back. The surroundings are indeed still pleasant, but tonight the serene setting was marred by a very loud, boisterous table of six adjacent to us. More importantly, the food was awful. We ordered a traditional Hawaiian Lau Lau. When we opened the leaves, the fish was obviously undercooked, the shrimp was not fresh and the taste was sour. Neither my wife, nor I could eat it. Our waitress saw we weren’t eating our meal and while taking our plates away, saw the fish wasn’t done; she immediately apologized and then comp’d our meal. The experience was so disappointing that we might never go back.
Very nice place. Good food. Good service. My only objection was the hostess. We made a 6:15 reservation and arrived 5 minutes early. Why they make you wait for 15 minutes to be seated is very annoying. Especially when there were ample empty tables when we were seated. My only thought is they want you to buy a drink at the bar. Not a good policy.
This lovely setting, n a botanical garden, contributes to my enjoyment of this restaurant. The food is excellent - there are always a couple of fish entrees that look great, and the salads are excellent. We always eat here several times during our stays in Kauai.
Loved the ambiance and food. We where there to celebrate a special occasion, my mother in laws Birthday. There was no acknowledgement by anyone that we where there celebrating a special occasion. That I felt was very unfortunate.
The bartenders and server werent very personable at all either.
We are local guests, but when we have family in town from the Midwest we expect the family be treated with Aloha.
Beautiful food in stunning surroundings!
We were delightfully surprised by this little-known (to us) Restaurant. The food was fresh & not identical selections as other area restaurants.
My husband enjoyed the stir fry - full of two types of fresh fish & a few shrimp as well. There were quite a few veggies & some noodles in the broth - well rounded & filling.
My choice was a grilled Mahi over an Asian slaw. The flavors were perfect together. Delicious.
Hope we can return soon!
Meh. Let me first of all disclose that we don’t eat “meat” (mammals). So maybe that’s where this restaurant shines. But we had fish. Quinoa Crusted Catch entrée was pretty weird. Seafood Laulau was more interesting but neither was worth $30+. On the other hand, the salad with candied cashews was divine. If we return, we’ll do apps and a salad. Strangest thing was that we asked to take 1/2 the leftover laulau with a big hunk of mahimahil home. Next day heated it up and NO FISH! Just veggies. So REALLY was not worth $30!!!!!
Our first visit to the Plantation Gardens, Crab Rangoon was very good! We both ordered the Grilled Mongchong and it was grilled perfectly! The Asian coleslaw was exceptional! The cheesecake was creamy & delicious! Our favorite was the Macnut Vanilla Creme Brûlée ! It was the best Creme Brûlée we have had! Would recommend this restaurant and the gardens are beautiful! Will definitely visit again!!
We were not impressed. Let me first say that the gardens were beautiful. Outside patio seating is very nice. We ordered the poke as an appetizer and it was very bland. Bread basket was stale. I ordered the meatloaf and had high hopes based the pot toast based on reviews and it was just okay. My husband ordered seafood medley and said it was pretty tasteless too. We will not be returning to this restaurant.
