Plan B - ARDEN TOWN Ratings and Reviews
Have been here many times... tonight I was a little disappointed. Food tasted amazing as alway... but all of our vegetables on our entries were cold... server got really busy and by the time someone c@me over to check... it was past the point of getting hot veggies... they diD nothing to make up for their error... will go back... but not for a long time.
Have gone to this great place many times! Had one bad experience and did not return for many months! Tried it again Friday and discovered it is still a fantastic place. Glad we went back! The people running the place are some of the friendliest people on can find.
I had to find reservations for 5 the same day, so I chose Plan B based upon reviews for places that were able to accommodate us on short notice. We were about 5-10 minutes late and our table was waiting for us when we arrived. The owner was very pleasant and helpful. The waiter was also very attentive early on, but it progressively took longer and longer to come by as the evening went on. Our meal took over 2 hours, aside from one salad we only had entrees.
One major problem was the rib-eye. Evidently the menu item included the word "pepper" in french, which none of the three of us knew (or asked). The rib-eye was covered in a thick sauce with significant quantity of cracked peppercorn. I enjoy lots of pepper and had to remove all of the sauce in order to taste the meat. Another of our party was unable to eat the meal. Lesson learned - ask about words that you don't recognize and perhaps alert your guests. Another of our party had the salmon and said it was excellent.
As we were preparing to leave the women in our party excused themselves to the restroom. They came back flushed and reported that they had just overhead the owner "yelling" at one of his wait staff outside, but carried clearly into the restroom window.
On the whole the evening was uncomfortable and awkward.
Plan B is a charming little place with excellent seafood, but also nice lamb and beef dishes. The personnel were all attentive and well informed, and we had good, thoughtful service. There's a pleasant little bar in front and comfortable tables and chairs. One of us hadn't been there before, and loved it. Two of us had the duck breast and one had rib eye--all melt-in-the-mouth tasty. They make a specialty of delectable mussels, too. My only complaint is that they aren't open for lunch at least some of the week, since I think they would attract a nice clientele.
The pork tenderloin & mushroom dinner special’s entree was so very good - perfectly cooked with a hint of pink, tender & beautiful flavors. The salad was dressed nicely- glistening, not goopy, well seasoned. Dessert wasn’t too big but just enough to fully savor before overload. What a nice surprise for a small neighborhood restaurant.
We love dining at Plan B in Arden Town. Whether eating a bite at the bar with a cocktail or having a luxurious multi course meal at a table, it always feels special. The staff is friendly, courteous, and not overbearing. The food is fantastic - the prawn stix appetizer, mussels, salads and regular entrees (rib eye, roasted chicken, salmon) are consistently good. The specials are note-worthy: options like duck confit, fresh seafood, rack of lamb. Even basics like the Plan B Burger, pommes frites and the bread basket are incredible. Only weak spot are desserts when fresh fruit and berries are not in season. Then the desserts are moderately good.
Went there for our anniversary. The crab roll appetizer was delicious, the lentil soup exquisite. I had the peppered rib eye which was done perfectly, my wife had the filet which was outstanding. The dessert and coffee equally first tier.
The owner came by several times to check on us and really made us feel special. We will definitely come back. It was well worth the drive (approx 1 hr).
Our dinners were outstanding! One had the quail, the other the mussels, shared onion cheese tartlette and pommes frites. Service was professional but slow. Maybe they were a server short that night. Every table but two was full, so maybe they had more diners than expected. Took too long to get our menus, to take our order, and to bring the wine. Had to ask for bread for the mussel broth. I have been here two times before and both of those times the service was timely, but only a few tables were in use on those occasions.
I had not been to this restaurant for many months and was pleasantly surprised. It was less pretentious that previous visits, service was excellent and food, if not exceptional, was still very good. Most of all, the quiet atmosphere allows for conversation, which is not true in many restaurants.
Great service with knowledgeable staff. Pear and bacon pizza was incredible as an appetizer. Pork belly Reuben and pork main dish really delicious. Wines are a bit pricey and it's not the spot for a romantic dinner due to the noise level but fun place for a friend get together.
The service was slow with only three other tables seated. The special was supposed to have three pieces-- there were only two. My ribeye was grisly, overcooked and didn't taste like a ribeye. I love pepper but it was too mucheven for me. Not going back
