They make sure everyone feels like friends and family from the minute you arrive to the time they say goodbye.
Excellent service and cool sophisticated atmosphere.
I payed cash and tipped over 20%. The owner should let his staff do their jobs instead of standing there watching the whole time. I was followed out my car to have the owner knocking on my window as I am about to pull out of the restaurant. The owner kept asking me for the signed receipt when I payed cash... let your waiter do their job. It was really awkward and I sat in the parking lot explaining it to him that I payed cash. As far as the ambiance, I had a reservation at 5 and waited for them to open. Upon coming in, the smell was not appealing. Smelled like old sponges were used to wipe down the tables. I would recommend making reservations in the evening and paying with a card. ..
One of our favorite restaurants in the Sacramento area, we were not disappointed in a repeat visit. We avoided the Valentine's Day rush and booked a table on the 15th of February. The greeting we received, the sumptuous food (I had the outstanding halibut, my wife had the delicious duck breast), the wine list, and ambience were all delightful. We enjoy this restaurant because it is not too large, the noise level is low enough that we can enjoy conversations with each other, the quality of food, and the general atmosphere. Parking is never a problem.
I brought my daughter in for a special Valentine's Day 4 course meal dinner. We had to wait 15-20 mins after we finished each course. We only ate 3 courses at the restaurant, and I had to wave down the bartender to get another glass of wine. We were both nodding off at the end of the night because we were so sleepy after the dinner course that we had to leave before we could eat out prepaid dessert. To top it off, our server included a 20% gratuity to my bill, when he ignored us the bulk of our meal. I could have got a lot more for $250 else where.
New ownership and lots of polishing is needed. At present, overpriced, poor quality control, soiled flatware. A disappointing Valentines dinner.
Valentine's day menu was ok. Small portions. Everything else was ok. Didn't feel like fine dining, but it was trying to. Atrocious name (plan b) everyone on my Facebook who saw my post commented the name was horrible.
Service was poor and we waited over one hour for entrees; very crowded. We had a reservation but they seemed not to notice.felt they should have comped our dessert but they didn’t . It was an anniversary, pre valentine dinner noted on our reservation but no acknowledgement.
Food was not up to par either.
Three of us ordered a fabulous assortment of menu items and also from the fare of the day on the board. We were not disappointed! Everyone that works there is friendly and is knowledgable on all the dishes. We learned that the sauces change almost daily and each and every dish had its own distinct taste and was done to perfection. With the menu having a strong French undertone we all asked a lot of questions and the descriptions given were so well done we ordered items we would have passed on by, and now we all can't wait to try even more. I am glad we had reservations on our Friday night visit and the tables were full all night. You can take your time or as I noticed some of the customers knew exactly what they wanted and were in and out in a timely matter. The cocktails our group ordered were spot on and most patrons were enjoying a nice bottle of wine at their table. Somehow we all found the way to try several of the desserts, although we just could not finish them. Plan b is now on our list as a new favorite. We all will be going back and telling friends and family about our "find" ! We left full, happy, and enjoyed the experience, its been a long time since all three of us talked about our dinner with that much excitement on the way home.
We ate at Plan B about a year ago and we were impressed. It was as good or better the second time. The salads were wonderful as were the prawns and salmon. Definitely on top of our list!
It was a Birthday dinner. I had the mushroom soup first, then the filet mignon, cooked perfectly in a mushroom sauce and with cauliflower Grattan. My wife had the prawn dinner with mashed or whipped potatoes after her butter lettuce, dried cherries with a rich and generous blue cheese dressing. Our daughter tried the mache salad, followed mussels Provençal. All meals were excellent. We finished off our meal with a lava cake, creme brûlée, and a 10 year old tawny port. Everyone was very happy with our food and the service.
I had never been to Plan B either in the Arden area or midtown Sacramento...so for a date night I took a chance and selected the Arden location...it seemed to get some better reviews than the midtown Sacramento location.
We had a truly great time...nicely decorated restaurant and a nice bar...not huge but just good for a more intimate experience. It was a bit confusing upon entering the restaurant...there was no hostess station, you just sort of go in to the bar and confirm your reservation. At first I had thought we had gone in a side entrance!
We ordered a bottle of white French wine ($35) and the prawn appetizer...just so nicely done! Okay, I read some comments that for $7.50 you only get two large tiger prawns (they'll bring bread too) but we didn't want to make the appetizer our meal...so it was just fine. When we were deciding on what wine to order, the bar/server guy was really helpful...poured us samples from 3 different bottles of wine so we could make an appropriate selection. He was really friendly too. Their wine list includes both French and California wines...some by the glass and some by the bottle.
After being seated, we chatted with whom I think was either the owner or partner of Plan B - Andre...very nice French man who was going all around the place chatting and greeting his clientele...a nice touch! We started our dinner with the butter salad (great) and then I ordered the mussels w/linguine and my fiance ordered the roasted 1/2 chicken...both delicious. The mussels were especially good! For dessert we split the apple tart which was nicely done too.
All in all I'd have to say this is a nicely run, good French restaurant. Does it seem like you're in a French bistro when you are there? No...I don't suspect you'll find that stateside anyway...but what's important to me is the service and the food (along with fair prices). I'd go back to Plan B Arden any time!
Favorite restaurant in Sacramento!
I highly recommend plan b
We had a great meal. Albert (the owner) is always a pleasure to talk to.
Have been here many times... tonight I was a little disappointed. Food tasted amazing as alway... but all of our vegetables on our entries were cold... server got really busy and by the time someone c@me over to check... it was past the point of getting hot veggies... they diD nothing to make up for their error... will go back... but not for a long time.
Have gone to this great place many times! Had one bad experience and did not return for many months! Tried it again Friday and discovered it is still a fantastic place. Glad we went back! The people running the place are some of the friendliest people on can find.
Excellent food and service. Loved the experience!
Great food and quality service
I had to find reservations for 5 the same day, so I chose Plan B based upon reviews for places that were able to accommodate us on short notice. We were about 5-10 minutes late and our table was waiting for us when we arrived. The owner was very pleasant and helpful. The waiter was also very attentive early on, but it progressively took longer and longer to come by as the evening went on. Our meal took over 2 hours, aside from one salad we only had entrees.
One major problem was the rib-eye. Evidently the menu item included the word "pepper" in french, which none of the three of us knew (or asked). The rib-eye was covered in a thick sauce with significant quantity of cracked peppercorn. I enjoy lots of pepper and had to remove all of the sauce in order to taste the meat. Another of our party was unable to eat the meal. Lesson learned - ask about words that you don't recognize and perhaps alert your guests. Another of our party had the salmon and said it was excellent.
As we were preparing to leave the women in our party excused themselves to the restroom. They came back flushed and reported that they had just overhead the owner "yelling" at one of his wait staff outside, but carried clearly into the restroom window.
On the whole the evening was uncomfortable and awkward.
Plan B is a charming little place with excellent seafood, but also nice lamb and beef dishes. The personnel were all attentive and well informed, and we had good, thoughtful service. There's a pleasant little bar in front and comfortable tables and chairs. One of us hadn't been there before, and loved it. Two of us had the duck breast and one had rib eye--all melt-in-the-mouth tasty. They make a specialty of delectable mussels, too. My only complaint is that they aren't open for lunch at least some of the week, since I think they would attract a nice clientele.
We had a very nice, unrushed meal. Our server was attentive and obviously familiar with the food. We will definitely return. The mussels are a must! Thanks for a wonderful evening.
We went there for New Years Eve and the food was fabulous and the service excellent, even though it was a busy night!
Always an outstanding experience. No other dining experience like it.
The pork tenderloin & mushroom dinner special’s entree was so very good - perfectly cooked with a hint of pink, tender & beautiful flavors. The salad was dressed nicely- glistening, not goopy, well seasoned. Dessert wasn’t too big but just enough to fully savor before overload. What a nice surprise for a small neighborhood restaurant.
Awesome restaurant with wonderful food and great service. Gotta have the mussels and frites!
Dining at Plan B is eating a great meal with friends. Albert treat everyone like family, and the food never disappoints.
We love dining at Plan B in Arden Town. Whether eating a bite at the bar with a cocktail or having a luxurious multi course meal at a table, it always feels special. The staff is friendly, courteous, and not overbearing. The food is fantastic - the prawn stix appetizer, mussels, salads and regular entrees (rib eye, roasted chicken, salmon) are consistently good. The specials are note-worthy: options like duck confit, fresh seafood, rack of lamb. Even basics like the Plan B Burger, pommes frites and the bread basket are incredible. Only weak spot are desserts when fresh fruit and berries are not in season. Then the desserts are moderately good.
The food was great. We had salads, hamburgers and frites . The chocolate Molten cake was amazing. There was a very large party so that may have caused our service to be extra extra slow. We will try it again and hope for a better experience.
We had a very nice meal. It was fresh with some unusual ingredients. The calamari was light, crispy and really tasty. Fair on the wine choices. We’ll be back!
We love this restaurant. Staff friendly. Food delicious. Great restaurant and one doesn’t need to drive Downtown. I think one of the best restaurants in Sacramento. Make sure you order the mussels. Delicious.
This was our first time dining at Plan B. We went to the Arden Town location. The food and service was excellent! The restaurant is contemporary, yet cozy, and the staff are friendly and engaging. This is quite a hidden gem!
