I came here for my 40th birthday afternoon date with my mom. The servers were friendly, and it includes A LOT of food, and all of it's tasty. Old Quebec is a foodie's dream so I can't promise I'd do this again... BUT I have no regrets, and I'm glad we went.

We loved the ambiance and pianist. Our server was fantastic. He was patient with us as we practiced our French and made us feel very comfortable. The food was ok. Some bites and the scones were very good. Others not so much but that is a preference issue. Overall a very nice experience.

We are afternoon tea aficionados…and were so looking forward to tea at the Chateau Frontenac. Unfortunately overall it was a dismal experience. While our location by the window to watch people go by on the terrace was perfect, it was very loud with the piano being played. A harp would have been much more relaxing and on point. The service was nice…our server Pierre did his best, but when the food is poor, there isn’t much he can do. I’d have to rate this tea in the top 3 worst teas I’ve ever had!! While they told me they could accommodate a gluten free tea, they were unable to execute it. Their scones were abysmal. The tiered portion of the food did not fare much better. Dry crumbly sandwiches with basically no butter/cream cheese or seasoning of any kind to make them tasty. The single layer of cucumber was sliced so thin as to be just about see throughable! The tastiest morsel was a slice of cucumber with some shrimp on it. Of the three wee sweets, only one was really good, one so so and the other tasteless. To begin they served a flute with a small amount of sparking tea from Copenhagen. That was the star of the day…totally delicious. Both of the teas we chose from their list we really enjoyed. In our opinion it was not in any way value for money, even with my gluten free tea being discounted 50%. The chef there really needs to up his game!!

I have been to quite a few high teas and some in other Fairmont properties. This one is a bit disappointing. The scones were not served warm the texture of it is a bit doughy. The sweet pastry, namely the red colored sponge cake is not fresh as it was a bit hard & dry. The green tea sparkling drink served upon arrival was great.

The lovely tea room area of Place Dufferin was set in it's new special china ready for everyone at our seating. A pianist played lovely music to set the tone. Unfortunately, having taken tea many times (in four countries), our experience in total did not compare as well as we had hoped and anticipated. "Afternoon tea" is a ritual steeped in tradition, and there were more than a few "changes" that had been made. For example, the staff put the tea in our pots and instructed us to smell it. Odd, I thought. Later the hot water arrived and the tea was allowed to steep. As the pot had not been heated, this process allowed the brewed tea to cool more quickly that desired. This was after I had returned my pot because there was a clear chip in the opening (in a spot where it could have meant that the tiny shard was in the pot). The scones were the first to be served. Quite a deviation from the typical English order of service. The two plain, soft scones, resembling biscuits more that scones, were accompanied by two nice preserves and a "housemade Devon cream" which was far in texture from either Devonshire clotted cream, or the sometimes served mock clotted cream which shares a textural similarity to clotted cream. The tea tray then appeared with an assortment of sandwiches and desserts, a few of them in shells that seemed from a package. There were other items that were lovely, if not traditional, including an amuse bouche that was a sweet rice pudding, not the savory I expected, accompanied by the very small pour of a sparking tea. All in all, we found our expectations were not exceeded, nor met.

Our server was great! He was kind enough to allow us to move to another table with a better view of the terrace and restaurant has a good ambiance. However, breakfast buffet is not that impressive. The food selection is just so-so and the salmon on the eggs benedict didn’t taste fresh. I did like the fruit selection but not a lot of selection for desserts.
