P.J. Clarke's - Third Avenue
We had last gone 15 years ago and it had the same great classic NYC vibe. Packed bar next to civilized dining room with great old mementoes on the wall (autographed picture of Robert Stack from 'The Untouchables'), etc. Friendly, attentive server, generously poured martinis, NY oysters on the half shell, Maine and Connecticut lobster rolls, all perfect. Casual, quality dining experience not to be missed.
Unique setting and great food
It’s THE best place in town for a burger and a beer or even date night. Two thumbs up. I went there two days in a row and am going back again in a few days.
Always a good choice. I've been visiting PJ Clarke's since I can remember.. every trip to NYC, had a mandatory stop at this restaurant. The burgers never disappoint!
Good food fast service for lunch
Year after year PJ Clarkes deliver outstanding burgers and seafood in a cozy environment that always leaves you wanting to come back for more.
I have been to every NYC based PJ Clarke’s location over the last 7+ years and it has become one of my favorite NYC spots of all time in all of NYC. Always a classic. Always a good old stand by. Never a bad meal or drink…until tonight. I am so disappointed and don’t plan on returning anytime soon.
Cocktails were watery & weak.
Restaurant no longer has a wine list. Only 3 choices of red by the glass. I almost gagged when I tried the Cabernet by the glass.
Menu was half the size. All the old classics got removed. I visit for a cocktail & tater tots alone. Tater tots are no more. What a mistake.
I was so excited for my Cadillac burger and my added toppings…oh wait. No more sautéed mushrooms. Sautéed onions must have been cooked in sugar water. So incredibly sweet they stood out on the burger. Also…the burger was considerably smaller and the bun was cold! Not toasted! It was like the bun was just ripped out of a super market package! And the kicker…French fries are now separate and not with the burger!!!!
What happened?!? So very disappointed that a covid lockdown changed this restaurant so drastically.
Great food & ambience but too noisy for conversation.
Great food and staff
Brought my girlfriend to dinner for her 35th Birthday and it was amazing! First time eating here and first time in NYC. We will be back!
Order a burger had to return it was not cooked and was raw. They redid the burgers still was not good, mediocre.
STILL a fabulous restaurant - good food, great service, very loud, energetic...perfect spot for a drink and to listen hard over the noise level.
Overpriced and very loud.
Love it here.
Anthony was great. Gave us space and time to enjoy our drink, before ordering our meals.
Wonderful experience . Thanks to Anthony
i recommend the burgers. The martinis were great..
Wonderful service from Brian our waiter and excellent burgers ! Martinis perfect as well.
Outstanding as always
I’m so sad. I just had the worst service at your location on 3rd. I made reservations for 5:30 and we were told to wait as a table was being cleared off for us. We then were sat 10 minutes later at a table that was unsat and clean since the moment we walked in. We then waited 15 minutes before a manager finally came over and took our drink order. 15 minutes later the server finally comes over with the drinks and takes our order. I ordered a fried egg for my Cadillac burger which the egg came out well done, which defeats the purpose of having a fried egg on the burger.. our food was delivered, which was overall very delicious! Thankfully because it made the experience not completely horrible. Both my partner and I finished our cocktails about half way through our meal. No one checked on us after the food was dropped off or to see if we would like another cocktail, which I did. The server finally came over about 10 minutes after we finished eating. We asked for the check and left.
Our favourite watering whole in NYC ! It was great seeing Gerry and the crew at PJs great drinks , food & atmosphere!
This truly is a neighborhood gem and great respite for really good pub food and cocktails! Clarke’s has something for everyone and the host and staff are warm and attentive. Can’t wait to return!!
A fun spot! Took my dad and his friend was definitely the perfect spot :)
Great food and service
Expected better but by no means was it bad. Was not as friendly of an environment as I hoped for. My burger was great!
One of the few remaining establishments with ambiance, good service by people older than 12, courteous, accommodating and friendly.
Great classic restaurant with great burgers and chopped steak. The real disappointment is the wine list. Very limited selection by the glass and not very high quality. Have they never heard "life's too short to drink bad wine" ??
It's also very loud: energetic is great; loud is loud.
Great burger, service and mac & cheese! Highly recommend....
Great, seasoned, venerable New York tavern. Wonderful place to experience.
A classic experience in a landmark spot. The Cadillac of burgers, and maybe the best mac and cheese anywhere, plus drinks that are strong and well made. Go there.
Everything was great
Ive been going there for years as i live in the neighborhood
Incredible experience! Casual elegance at it’s best! Delicious lunch, friendly & professional staff. Beautiful stained glass, dark wood and original tin tiles. This was a “pilgrimage” for me as I am an avid reader of Stuart Woods’s books. His main character, Stone Barrington, dines regularly at Clarke’s and my experience exceeded my expectations (which were high).
Service great and attentive; menu surprisingly broad for lunch fare; a little pricy, but worth it.
The burgers, the mac & cheese,, the french fries and the drinks were fine. Our server was very pleasant and attentive.
We were seated in the back, near the rear door, which was kept open to allow servers to go in and out. There are several outdoor tables. Alas, we got chilly inside. Our server and the manager later moved our table farther way from the rear door. Much better.
I can’t give this restaurant the highest rating for one reason: the men’s restroom. Maybe this building is landmarked. Nevertheless, the bathroom sink is atrocious. It looks like it hasn’t been thoroughly cleaned in a long while. The stains are permanently ingrained. In my opinion, there’s no excuse for not having a clean restroom, regardless of any landmark status. My wife says the ladies restroom was fine.
My favorite in mid-town. That said, please open SIDECAR!
Really rude service
Very friendly place felt at home - Bar had to work bar and floor. Yet he was always friendly and warm
Will go back
Everything was great including the service
We were three women: one with a walker, one a cane, third a vegetarian! (Sounds like. comedy routine!) Everyone was accommodated beautifully. Food delicious. Service lovely. Thank you.
An excellent restaurant with lots of nostalgia. The food was fabulous and the service was excellent. It was just a delightful experience.
