Pizzeria Via Stato
Staying at the Embassy Suite and having been shopping all day, just needed to enjoy a dinner and not doing out somewhere and decided to get dinner at the hotel. Fabulous pizza and drinks. Had their Butternut squash pizza that was their monthly special. Most wonderful pizza I have ever had. Too bad it was only for November and we were there on the last day of the month. Would have ordered again, maybe next year. Great service and prices were good. Servers were very attentive and made sure everything was good.
Very noisy, cramped, the waiter took the order and we never saw him again, food was brought in by other servers, had to pay for bread basket and olive oil, food quality mediocre, at least for my family that lived in Italy for 6 years. Would not recommend to friends and will not return.
One of our Chicago favorites, always very accommodating with great service. Be sure to try the chocolacello!!!
Love their thin crust pizza!!
Incredible food and really attentive staff. The pizza was so light and crispy. The chopped salad was so fresh
Great food!! Love their ciabatta with garlic and balsamic.
Their pastas are great too
Excellent service, great food. Coworkers and I had a wonderful time here.
Best grilled octopus I’ve ever had but not at all a place for anything larger than 6 people. Simply too small and we had reservations for 9. No business allowing this large of a group. Pizza was good but not top tier. Italian dishes were also good but not top tier. Service was great though surprised by the high ratings.
A very enjoyable meal in nice surroundings
Thin crust pizza phenomenal!
Bartender rock star!
Chef super cool dude!
Host at front irritating. We arrived early being considerate on a Saturday night knowing our table would probably not be ready. All good. But he had to say it...three times... “ACTUALLY you ARE EARLY so your table ISN’T ready yet.” Once ok, I get it. Twice, now he was approaching sassy. Third time was outright sarcasm.
Been to pizzeria before but it was a great experience recently. The waitress Deb was fabulous and put up with all our menu modifications and was very easy going with us. The food was delicious. Love the chicken Mario and the penne with chicken dish. I would recommend pizzeria to anyone looking for good food, casual atmosphere, and great service!!
Enjoyable dinner at Pizzeria Via Stato. The pizza was excellent - but you had better like micro thin crust - which we do, otherwise you may find it a bit on the light side. Wine list is very comprehensive and well chosen but markups are extremely high for this kind of relatively casual place. Quartino across the street offers MUCH better value on wine but of course that comes with the full 90db sound experience which we didn’t feel like that day. We would certainly return but would be cautious about wine purchase - they really should lower their margins...
Great, crispy thin crust pizza and they let us order off the Osteria menu for entrees, I’d put their steaks up against the best Chicago has to offer at much lower prices! Service was top notch.
Pas grand intérêt
It was great!
Great thin crust pizza and delicious chopped salad! Kids loved the pizzas!
Pizza is exceedingly average. Service was poor. Not nearly up to Lettuce standards.
I usually recommend Pizzeria via Stato to everyone as it’s a favorite of mine, but this time service was lacking. There was a fly in my wine and instead of getting me a new one right away, Dario condescendingly said it’s because we were too close to the window and asked us (basically told us) to move and we had to pick up our own food and silverware to move to a table that was nearby. Then he said he would get me a fresh glass, and came back with a glass that had much less wine than the one he took from me. I felt cheated. You spend $36 on 2.5 glasses of wine and you expect to enjoy that much.
Then my olives were taken from me before I could say that I wasn’t finished with them. There was a half of a plate left. All in all, I still like the food, but Dario was pretty short with us and not friendly. It made the experience pretty disappointing.
Our favorite Go-to casual place in downtown. Always great food and service. Always a good time. Been many and will return many more!
We were pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. The food was excellent. We ordered pizza and penne. Both were great. Long list of Italian wines. Enjoy!
We had made our reservation and arrived at the restaurant. We were seated immediately and then the waitress came by 15 minutes later and took our drink orders. We sat their 20 minutes and she still hadn’t returned. During this time she waited her two tables next to us and the table outside. We waited another 5 minutes to see if she will bring us our drinks and instead she just stood off to the side of our table at the waiters station.
Delicious pizza. Same as I tried in Barcelona, Spain
This restaurant ‘s patio should be packed but it isn’t. Good food, attentive service, great people-watching. The $10 three course lunch with chickpea salad, sandwich and a sliver of chocolate tart is a steal! Discover this neighborhood gem and forget about that crowded, noisy, over-priced Italian food hall a few blocks away.
Service was awful! Took over 10 minutes just to get greeted. My pizza didn't make it to the table until more than 10 minutes after my wife got hers. There was no explanation until after I complained to the manager. The pepperoni was delicious.
Great thin (really thin!) crust pizza. Attentive but not intrusive service. Enjoyable dining experience and will do it again.
I don’t think I’ll ever go back there. Service was horrible and disorganized. The food isn’t good enough for the service to be so bad.
We sat outside and enjoyed the nice evening weather. The staff was attentive and the food very good.
Love this place. Eat here 2-3 times a month
Excellent “pizza of the day” and roasted garlic treat. A little noisy outdoor dining, but that’s Chicago! Recommended to friends.
My go-to every visit to Chicago. The pizza is always deliciously thin and the Arugula Salad is the best we've ever had. When available, the beets are tasty, too! The wait staff is always great!
I hate that I’m mostly inclined to write reviews after bad service. I do leave positive reviews, as well, but this time my experience began with terrible service. We arrived promptly at 8:29 for an 8:30pm reservation. Upon checking in at the host station I could tell there was some confusion between staff. The first lady I spoke with said we would have to wait because no tables were available on the Pizzeria side (which is where the original reservation was made).
We waited a total of approximately 35-40 minutes, spoke to at least 4-5 employees 6-7 times, and was never given a straight answer on when a table would be available, or any explanation as to why we had to wait. At one point we watched 2 people walk in and taken to a table right away in front of us. The hostess told my husband that they had a reservation, that’s why they were sat before us (knowing full well that we also had a reservation). That was close to 9pm. Eventually, again without explanation, we were sat on the Osteria side of the restaurant. That’s perfectly fine by me but again, zero communication. The service at the table was fantastic. The service at the host stand was the worst I’ve seen since moving to Chicago 5 years ago. I hope they figure it out!
Nice thin crust pizza sitting street side. Can be loud on weekends with the city filled with motorcycles and pumped up cars. Still a great time.
We had a reservation and still had to wait 1/2 hour for our table. The noise level was extremely high.
Love this place
We came for dinner before heading to a play, and we were so glad we did! Everything from the chopped salad to our pizzas to our fantastic bottle of valpolicella to the dark chocolate bar dessert was fantastic, and it was completely matched by the great service. We will be back!!
When visiting Chicago, Pizzeria Via Stato is a place where we continue to return.
AMAZING experience! Best pizza we've ever had, unique flavors, and the best Service you could hope for!
We were visiting from out of town and we messed up the time of the reservation and arrived one hour early. The host not only accommodated us, but gave us a complementary glass of wine. The food was great, and we really appreciated them honoring the Open Table reservation.
When we are in Chicago, we love to meet friends and family at Pizzeria Via Stato or Osteria via Stato. Both have great food, we love the excellent service, and the chocolate bar with fruit and nuts is a fun way to end a delicious dinner.
Accommodated our group of 12 perfectly. Pizza is Neopolitan, not Chicago style. Delicious food and cocktails. Loud.
