It was our first time there, but it won't be our last. Good service, terrific food, great deserts.
LOVED everything about this place. Our service was not up to par. Hindered the experience we were so excited for.
The pizza dough is very good but putting it on a ceramic plate it turns soggy and unappealing. The meatballs were too firm and very dry. Very attentive service . Please do something about the soggy pizza.
Great food, great service and they even gave us a complimentary appetizer! Wonderful experience.
Been here about a dozen times. Love the pizza!! Who wouldn't? But this last visit was a little disappointing. Something has changed. There just wasn't the same service level and care that I am used to receiving from a Nancy Silverton/Mario Batali/Joe Bastianich restaurant. Has Nancy not been there recently to check on things? We were a party of three and one of the three pizzas "were just not made". What? And our server said that with a straight face! When the pizza was brought out, they forgot the egg. They took the whole pizza back to remake. So, one of us had to sit for over 25 minutes with no food while the other two had cold food due to the wait. It wasn't even busy! It was a Sunday at 5:30 pm for goodness sake!
The thing about restaurants, you MUST keep up the standard you started with or your regulars will look elsewhere. Splice in some seasonal freshness/newness to the menu, make sure the service level is top notch, and always make up for the mistakes!
We went to Mozza after watching the Chef's Table episode that featured the owner....highly recommend watching! While the food was very good, it didn't blow us away which is what we were anticipating. Then to compound it with the mediocre service it was just an ok time. I know this restaurant can do better, and we will most likely give it another chance, but it needs to step up its game in service and the consistency of the food.
Pizza dough is dry, smothered in sauce and with too little mozzarella. It was like a dry bowl made of crust with a pool of sauce in the middle. The nduja on the pizza was extremely salty (a sign that it has been sitting there for a while?). Never again.
The bar and drinks are excellent. My cocktail was remarkable.
Both pizzas were soggy and not good at all. Not our usual experience that we have had in the past.
I was here two weeks ago and had an amazing cacio e pepe, and couldn't wait to have it again. I have family visiting from out of town and I had been raving about how good it was. Four out of the six of us ordered it. I never ask for my pasta to be cooked al dente at Mozza (like I do at other restaurants) because it ALWAYS is. Well, we were all sadly disappointed. The spaghetti was over cooked, the pasta flavorless. My husbands pizza had a huge slightly I decided crust and the other man had the lasagna, which he said was just ok. The first time I've been disappointed with a meal here.
We did enjoy the cauliflower fritti and fried squash blossoms.
We ventured out and tried the chicken and potatoes and the pasta with sausage and kale. Both incredibly disappointing - the chicken was dry and flavorless and the pasta tasted like dry breadcrumbs. I could barely see and sausage or kale. Hugely disappointing.
Very consistently good food, service in a very noisy environment.
As always the food and the service were Outstanding. One of our favorite places!!!!!! The Nancy's Salad is a STAR! We always look forward to this salad and the garlic bread which is to die for!!!!! Pizza needs a google translation but well worth it as it is superb! My hubby and I always order the lasagna as an add on treat as we never want to miss it!!!!
Enjoyed the food, service and ambiance. Perfect spot for dinner with friends. This was our third visit and we will be back!
Great patio, good food! Tricolor salad!!
Overall, the food was delicious. I had just seen a show with Nancy Silverton in Tuscany discussing the specific authentic Italian ingredients that inspired Mozza, so it was perfect to come to Mozza so soon after seeing the show. I had already been to the Los Angeles location a couple of times over the years. Most notable is the unique pizza oven she uses, which has a major affect on the outcome of many of the dishes served. The pizza is very special, and takes pizza into a new realm. The tomato sauce is very fresh and they use a lot of it--so much, the the small amount of mozzarella cheese slid off. I had a homemade pasta dish that was very simple with pecorino cheese and pepper that was outstanding. The bread is probably the best I have ever had, with olive oil and a touch of flake salt--which is fantastic with the burrata and pesto appetizer. I do not recommend the lemon desert as it was frozen solid and impossible to eat. The restaurant is extremely loud, and definitely took the enjoyability down a notch. The service was very good, although it appears the restaurant policy does not allow for minor changes to accommodate the individual palette or allergies. We were all taken back when due to my right hand being in a cast making it hard to cut, I asked whether they might just chop the plate of asparagus for me in the kitchen (very thick charred pieces)--and they didn't think that would be possible. We liked it enough that when my husband came down to Newport later in the week, we went again.
as always was very good and friendly food came out so fast we were almost rushed
Great food and service!
We were on time for our reservations and promptly directed to a table against the wall
We asked if an empty table next to it was free .... she said it was reserved. I said I didn’t know you could reserve specific tables, she said you can’t but we keel them for important VIP people?
It was late 9:30pm and no new reservations were coming in.
Not sure what constitutes an important Peres but we spent ver $1000 at a Christmas dinner there????
We are never disappointed eating here. The staff is always helpful and will help you not over order. The salads are great and perfect to share while waiting for your pizza.
I am a regular and happy customer. Andrew at the bar is outstanding.
Heard they added cacio e pepe to their menu. I had it in Rome the first time and it was amazing, and I was on a quest to find a good rendition here. It did not disappoint! I wished I had leftovers to take home, but it was so good I ate it all.
We have a great experience here
The food is amazing
The staff was very friendly
Not quite the same as the other location in West Hollywood. Pizza is a bit more soggy here. Flavors are off. This is second time I have dined here and confirmed my initial hunch. This location is closer to my home but although it looks similar, just doesn’t taste the same
My wife and I dinned at Mozza on Friday night mostly for their nepolitan styple pizza, but ultimatly becuase they added Cacio E Pepe to the menu. Overall, ambiance and services was good, no gripes.
We ordered the fried squash blossoms, Nancy's Chopped Salad, Cacio E Pepe, and the Prosciutto/Aruggala pizza.
Squash Blossoms - Tasty. Salty, creamy, crunchy
Nancy's Chopped Salad - Good. Bit of a crunch slaw style with salty bits of salami.
Cacio E Pepe - Bleh.. I can make it WAY better at home.. too salty, not enough starchy water, cheese clumbed up.
Pizza - fantastic! If it weren't for the pizza, no need to come back.
Overall, it's all about the pizza, they do it right where alot of other neopolitan style pizza restaurants fall short.
Odd location PCH away from other dining hotspots in Newport. Disappointing and overpriced. Menu selection very limited.
Pizza was eclectic and delicious. Service was shoddy at best. The hostess was an inexperienced 3rd grader and the waiter was not up to the caliber of Nancy Silverton. Don't expect it to be what you see on TV. My bad, I expected more. Drinks were good.
The space is well thought out with a chefs view counter seating. The pizza was approx. 12-14" and was fantastic. The crust was light with just the right amount of char, goat cheese with chives and leaks and pancetta was just perfect @ $19 it was worth the price for quality ingredients and flavor. The salted caramel budino was floral, rich and well balanced with the flavors. I came early so noise wasn't a problem. There is an extensive wine list with some notable bottles in the high range as well as lower and mid. There is something for everybody on the menu, salads, chicken wings etc. I will come again-it's easier than the LA pizzeria.
Mozza is awesome. World class food and wine list. Service at the same level.
an amazing discovery and we definitely be back. The pizza was probably the best I have ever had
Second time this week. Pizzas are unbelievably tasty- the dough is first class.
Very reasonable for the quality of ingredients and preparation.
Bravo. Go here.
Awesome!! So happy the olive oil gelato is back on the menu!!!
We loved everything about this restaurant. We would go back in a heartbeat
It is unfortunate to write this review but this was not good. I have been to event dinners here and they have been very well done but this was just bad. I booked the reservation for a friend's birthday and that was noted in the reservation. We had been on a run of elegant dining places and wanted a nice neighborhood place with good food and service. Our first server who took our drink order was charming and helpful but it stopped there. We ordered an appetizer, salads and entrees. My salad was delivered 10 minutes after my friends. Then entrees came quickly so I only ate about 10% of my salad. I order the chicken and it looked well prepared with a good outside sear and rub. But it was not done by the bone--quite pink and bloody and had hot and cold spots throughout. Fortunately a day later I did not get sick from underdone poultry. We mentioned to the waiter that there were problems and I was not looking for a credit but he really could have cared less that there was a quality failure. This restaurant can do a better job but boy oh boy this was bad and unfortunate for a small celebration--go back --may be only for pizza but it will be awhile.
The food at Mozza is so good and simple that I didn't care that the waiter was not great or that the place is noisy. My taste buds are so happy with the pane e bianco, mozza caprese, meatballs, chopped salad, sauteed broccoli, and butterscotch budino that I forgot they made us wait 20 minutes for our reservation.
I went here with family who were visiting as a goodbye dinner. The tables are very close together, so you constantly feel in the way of waiters and other patrons moving around the tiny dining room. It is very dark and very loud...so loud that it was hard to talk across the table. Then there was the menu (very limited) and the small portions. Nothing was amazingly tasty or memorable. I was underwhelmed and won’t go back. They do have a nice wine selection.
Every bite was a new discovery in authentic Italian food made with the freshest ingredients. I can't wait to go back.
Food was delicious especially the pizza with Burrata.
