About Pizzaiolo Primo

Welcome to Pizzaiolo Primo, home of truly authentic Neapolitan Cuisine. Pizzaiolo Primo roots trace back to Pittsburgh circa 1996, with an original credo: create Neapolitan pizza using old-world techniques and using the highest-quality ingredients available. Today, we hand-make nearly everything on the menu - from sweet fennel sausage, meatballs and pasta, to mozzarella and antipasto vegetables. If we don't hand-make it, it's imported from the best artisans, cheese makers and salumeria in the world. Our Mozzarella di bufala comes direct from Naples and we cook only the best dried pasta in the world, always to order, always al dente. We bake our pizzas at 1000 degrees in a handcrafted, wood-fired brick oven for less than 90 seconds using perfectly leavened dough, San Marzano tomatoes, and extra virgin olive oil. The result is an authentic Neapolitan culinary experience with integrity. Buon Appetito!

This is one of my favorite downtown spots. The bolognese sauce is fantastic. It’s my go to every time I go their. The flat breads are awesome. Just a place worth going and you won’t be disappointed.

I was in town for business and wanted a great Italian casual meal. I looked all through OpenTable and the places were too stuffy and PP's menu looked inviting without being over the top.

I was pleasantly surprised -- the location is in Market Square the best place for Pittsburgh for Christmas. The menu was great - the service was great - we had the fresh Buffalo Mozzarella with heirloom tomatoes - and yes I asked where they get heirloom tomatoes in winter. It was by far the creamiest and best I have ever had - the outside was firm while the inside was delightfully soft and flowing.

We also had the bolognese and I had the salisicca. The pasta was all freshly made and both were delicious. I would recommend PP to all my friends. I will return for sure when I am in Pittsburgh.

Food has always been good. Had one last of the worst services we’ve ever had here though unfortunately. Incredibly rude and never came back to check on us. Our meal took over an hour to come out. Total check was $150 for 3 people with a bottle of wine.

Some of the best pizza in Pittsburgh - if you are a fan of real Naples-style pies. Some overlook the non-pizza offerings... Dont. Everything the make here is delicious. It's a little loud -- families with kids come in on the weekends, but overall the space is good and you can sit up- or downstairs. I heard a competitor is opening up soon - thats too bad because this place deserves your business.

We have dined here several times. The food is always very good and the service was excellent. Salad was very fresh. The wine is also good. I'm sure we will dine here again soon and would recommend Primo to anyone who would like a great Italian dinner.

We ate here for light up nite in Pittsburgh and have been to the restaurant many times before. The salad and mussels special were awesome, the mussels were done perfectly and had some nice heat to them but not to much. The pizza was good but a little doughy which I typically don’t mind but a little to much this trip , it also was a pizza without sauce. Our waiter and wait staff were excellent and very professional , not overbearing in any way. I would and have recommended this restaurant to many people and will return for another good meal.

We went there on light up night because our son was coming home on the mega bus from Penn States so we thought we would get dinner and wait for him. OMG there were so many people downtown that i didn't anticipate so we were stuck in traffic for at least a hour and they were very understanding and held our table. Wow after a bad start to our evening they more then made up for it. the food was very good The wine was great to and reasonably priced. and the waiter was very friendly would go back

I've eaten here 3 times and always order the eggplant and an margarita pizza to share. They have been delicious each and every time. I'd like to try other things on the menu, but the eggplant is so, so good and it's hard to find good eggplant so.....

Pizzaiolo Primo delivers the most authentic Italian dining experience I have had in Pittsburgh. The Margherita Pizza and penne vodka were fantastic, and the service was nothing short of excellent. Overall, it was a delicious, pleasant experience and I will definitely be going back

We moved out of Pittsburgh 3 years ago. This has always been my favorite restaurant and we make a point to eat hear every time we come home. However now that the restaurant has undergone change of management and sold out to have several other openings we won’t return. Way too loud and the food is not as good as it used to be. Sad really!

We went for lunch. They do not have a lunch menu. Large portions and high price especially for a plate of pasta. Food was really good so it was worth it. We would go back for dinner but not for lunch. Too many nicer places downtown with better lunch menus

Everything is consistently good, been here a few times. Last time for lunch, service was a bit sleepy, low energy, going through the motions ( we had to ask if there were any specials , some drink rounds were a bit delayed. Not bad service, just not what we're used to, and not a positive reflection on what is otherwise a nice place to dine.

Pizzaiolo is great for a date night. Better than average Italian food and better than average service in Market Square. The atmosphere is intimate and our server knew his stuff. That being that, the prices are a little steep and the food doesn't "wow."

We tried the rice ball appetizer first, which was pretty good. Very filling. I had the gnocchi, which was incredibly fresh but not very flavorful. My husband had the wild boar ragu which was actually delicious. We might come back again for the pizza, but nothing has me dying for a second visit to Pizzaiolo Primo.

The food and the service were good. It was a business lunch and we were able to have professional conversations. Only thing that would have made it better would have been if it was a dinner and I could have had one of those cold Peroni beers. Thanks.

The service was pleasant and very timely! Four of us selected four different pizzas and they were all fantastic! Deserts were great and the pricing isn't too expensive, especially for the specialty pizzas. Would definitely recommend.

This is one of my favorite downtown spots. I eat out for lunch or dinner 5-6 times a week and this place has never disappointed. The Bolognese is my favorite dish and this place kills it! My client followed my lead and ordered one to go for he and his wife.

Fantastic service and cool patio seating in Market Square. You can't go wrong with this spot.
