About Pizzaiolo Primo
Welcome to Pizzaiolo Primo, home of truly authentic Neapolitan Cuisine. Pizzaiolo Primo roots trace back to Pittsburgh circa 1996, with an original credo: create Neapolitan pizza using old-world techniques and using the highest-quality ingredients available. Today, we hand-make nearly everything on the menu - from sweet fennel sausage, meatballs and pasta, to mozzarella and antipasto vegetables. If we don't hand-make it, it's imported from the best artisans, cheese makers and salumeria in the world. Our Mozzarella di bufala comes direct from Naples and we cook only the best dried pasta in the world, always to order, always al dente. We bake our pizzas at 1000 degrees in a handcrafted, wood-fired brick oven for less than 90 seconds using perfectly leavened dough, San Marzano tomatoes, and extra virgin olive oil. The result is an authentic Neapolitan culinary experience with integrity. Buon Appetito!

Pizzaiolo Primo Ratings and Reviews
Our waiter was fantastic. Knew the menu well and very attentive. The Caesar salad was good but way too big, we also had the mussels in the white wine sauce. They were just okay. We ordered 2 pastas and a pizza to share. The pizza was amazing, very delicious. We had the penne vodka - it was just okay. We didn’t like that there was no pancetta in the dish, there was just a pile of prosciutto on top and it didn’t really go with the dish. The noodles were also meant to be al dente but they were quite underdone. We also had the mushroom pasta expecting more of a cream sauce, also just okay and again, the noodles were underdone. Overall the experience was good because of the service, good wine, and pizza. I’d go back for pizza, not pasta.
Matt was our waiter and he was very attentive, and was focused on helping us make it to our show after dinner. He was polite, friendly to the young girls in our party, and accommodating to all of our needs. The food was good, the only minor disappointment was that the pizza seemed kind of "soupy" which we were surprised at with the brick oven. This was a family dinner, but the couple involved intends to go back for a date night.
We went here for new year's eve and, although not crowded, the service was terrible. This place is too expensive to have such bad service (appetizer and first course served at the same time, entrée was wrong, etc.) The food was not great. We have eaten there before and been satisfied, but after our recent visit my family agreed that we will not return.
Pizzaiolo Primo is ALWAYS amazing - the food here is so authentic, fresh, and delicious! Originally from the Pittsburgh area, now living in Indy, this is our absolute favorite Pittsburgh restaurant - we wish we could move it to Indy! We have never ordered anything that we were not happy with - everything is great. A must try when you are in Pittsburgh!
I was in town for business and wanted a great Italian casual meal. I looked all through OpenTable and the places were too stuffy and PP's menu looked inviting without being over the top.
I was pleasantly surprised -- the location is in Market Square the best place for Pittsburgh for Christmas. The menu was great - the service was great - we had the fresh Buffalo Mozzarella with heirloom tomatoes - and yes I asked where they get heirloom tomatoes in winter. It was by far the creamiest and best I have ever had - the outside was firm while the inside was delightfully soft and flowing.
We also had the bolognese and I had the salisicca. The pasta was all freshly made and both were delicious. I would recommend PP to all my friends. I will return for sure when I am in Pittsburgh.
Some of the best pizza in Pittsburgh - if you are a fan of real Naples-style pies. Some overlook the non-pizza offerings... Dont. Everything the make here is delicious. It's a little loud -- families with kids come in on the weekends, but overall the space is good and you can sit up- or downstairs. I heard a competitor is opening up soon - thats too bad because this place deserves your business.
We ate here for light up nite in Pittsburgh and have been to the restaurant many times before. The salad and mussels special were awesome, the mussels were done perfectly and had some nice heat to them but not to much. The pizza was good but a little doughy which I typically don’t mind but a little to much this trip , it also was a pizza without sauce. Our waiter and wait staff were excellent and very professional , not overbearing in any way. I would and have recommended this restaurant to many people and will return for another good meal.
We went there on light up night because our son was coming home on the mega bus from Penn States so we thought we would get dinner and wait for him. OMG there were so many people downtown that i didn't anticipate so we were stuck in traffic for at least a hour and they were very understanding and held our table. Wow after a bad start to our evening they more then made up for it. the food was very good The wine was great to and reasonably priced. and the waiter was very friendly would go back
