Welcome to Pizzaiolo Primo, home of truly authentic Neapolitan Cuisine. Pizzaiolo Primo roots trace back to Pittsburgh circa 1996, with an original credo: create Neapolitan pizza using old-world techniques and using the highest-quality ingredients available. Today, we hand-make nearly everything on the menu - from sweet fennel sausage, meatballs and pasta, to mozzarella and antipasto vegetables. If we don't hand-make it, it's imported from the best artisans, cheese makers and salumeria in the world. Our Mozzarella di bufala comes direct from Naples and we cook only the best dried pasta in the world, always to order, always al dente. We bake our pizzas at 1000 degrees in a handcrafted, wood-fired brick oven for less than 90 seconds using perfectly leavened dough, San Marzano tomatoes, and extra virgin olive oil. The result is an authentic Neapolitan culinary experience with integrity. Buon Appetito!

Food was just okay and service was marginal. We had heard great things but really weren’t impressed. The gnocchi was probably the best thing we had.

Our new favorite restaurant: Pizzaiolo Primo! We wished we had more room to try more of the great dishes. We loved the sauce (and we are Italians!) as well as the meatballs, fried artichoke hearts, and much more! The ceasar salad was "meh" but everything else was divine!

It's a real shame this lovely place is located where it is, because that's the biggest barrier to us returning. We generally avoid establishments in the city, especially those downtown, and this exception was a reminder of why. We took an Uber with relatives who really wanted to try it before they moved away and immediately upon stepping out on this hot and humid late June day we were having regrets, the stench of nearby garbage cans in Market Square is really quite unbearable. Once inside the restaurant the odor abated for the most part, but not completely and it serves as quite a distraction from an otherwise lovely place and experience. The service was excellent, the food was very good although they were out of the one item in particular we came to try (Margherita DOC) but the other options were very good, especially the Prosciutto E Arugula pizza. The appetizers were all good with the Antipasto Misto standing out, though for a table of four all sharing a few more olives wouldn't have hurt. A good selection of Italian wines at reasonable prices were also available, the Zenato VALPOLICELLA, Veneto DOC was a real gem that didn't break the bank and induce guilt by consuming several bottles with pizzas. Overall a very good meal in a very nice place that unfortunately ended much the way it began. Exiting the building that smell again, the trash strewn around market square and yipee in the <10 minutes we waited for our Uber we were accosted by two very aggressive and threatening panhandlers and a third was making bee-line for us just as our car arrived. Not sure how people can enjoy a meal in these conditions while dining outside, but to each his own I suppose. If this business were located 5-10 miles north and in more hospitable surroundings, we'd definitely recommend and return. As it is though it's hard to do so when a meal requires enduring so many consequences of urban decay and the failed policies of Mayor Bill Peduto and city government.

Excellent food and service. We were able to sit on the patio which was really nice, given all the rain we’ve had lately. The Caesar salad and prosciutto and arugula pizza were fantastic!! Will definitely be back!

I had the gnocci Sorentino which was very good. Started with the stuffed hot pepers which was also excellent. Drinks were a bit pricey. Had a Bullet Manhattan which was $14.50 and just average size. Some of the other tables were having pizza which looked appetizing.
Will return. Good for dinner before or after events in cultural district. Within walking distance to O'Reilly, Heinz Hall, etc..

We were visiting and staying st the Hilton Garden Inn so it was a very easy walk. We are doing WW so our food choices were limited but tasty! All of the food that passed by looked wonderful ! Our servers both Sunday and Monday were great! We had drinks at two other places on the square during our visit and felt a little guilty going to the same place twice but we truly enjoyed it!

We'd made a reservation ahead and were seated immediately when we arrived. Our waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable and service was fast but not rushed. We had drinks, appetizers, and entrees and all were very tasty! This restaurant was recommended to us by a friend and we would definitely recommend it to someone else as well. Good dining experience!

Pre Heinz Hall - sat outside on a lovely evening. Hannah, our server, was very good and directed us to nice wine. Food was good, not outstanding. But this restaurant, in my opinion, has become terribly overpriced. Our bill, with tax and tip, was $120. We shared a pizza, a caprese salad and a bottle of moderately priced wine. The $17 price tag for the caprese salad is just insane

Food is very good but pricey. They also charge for all refills of sodas including club soda. Tables are quite small and close to other diners. They had to take away the water bottle in order to fit our food on the table and even then, it was really tight.

This is 3 Mother’s days in a row we’ve come to this restaurant. Each time, the food is phenomenal and the only reason we keep coming back but I just can’t anymore. Each time, there’s a different hostess who is just downright mean, beyond rude and seems to go out of their way to make the only day of the year I’m guaranteed to enjoy, unenjoyable. I’m thinking now it’s just a culture of the restaurant. Italian restaurants are a dime a dozen. I’m sure we’ll find another restaurant with a staff who respects their guests even minimally.

The quality of the food and the ingredients are excellent excellent. However in 2 recent visits I found the pizza to be undercooked. The crust was not browned or crisp. The cheese had not melted or browned. A bit more oven time would reduce a splendid pie.

As always, our food was incredible. My family started out with our favorite appetizer, Arancini, and also tried a new one - Carciofi Fritti both of which were amazing. We also had the special of the day, the swordfish dish, as well as the Bianca pizza, Pappardelle Funghi and Insalata Frutti Di Mare. We finished off our meal with the Tiramisu.

Our server, Jason, was great; very knowledgeable of the food and drinks. We'll be back again and again, this is one of our favorite restaurants!

Excellent food preparation and very good cocktails. Dinner for 2, one cocktail each , one app, 1 desert, 2 entrees and 2 cappuccinos totaled $150 with tip. No complaints about city restaurant prices for good food- just a bit loud. Acoustics for conversation could be better
