Food + Wine Pairings

Great wine deserves great food — indeed each is better with the other — an ideal marriage. That's why our Tasting Room is central to the Pippin Hill experience. Our wine and food pairing program is the cornerstone of our agritourism experience, as it affirms the connection between the vines growing on-site and our robust Kitchen Garden. Our culinary team highlights the freshest ingredients from local farms, including our own Kitchen Garden, with seasonal menus that showcase our wines

                                        • 2017 Sparkling Blanc de Blanc$13.50

Our Blanc de Blanc offers aromas of vanilla, straw and light toast that lead to layered and creamy flavors of caramelized pear, soft oak and apricot or Meyer lemon. The finish is lean and zesty, with equal parts acidity and tartness, making these bubbles turn any occasion into a celebration!

                                          • 2018 Sparkling Rosé$13.50

Our Champagne style Sparkling Rosé features both floral and fruity characteristics on the nose...lavender, rose petal, and strawberry...with hints of raspberry, lilac, and violet on the palate. Perfect for enjoying in the Spring and Summer months!

                                            Whites

                                            • 2018 Sauvignon Blanc$34.00

With its distinctive, vivid aromas and zesty acidity, Sauvignon Blanc is easy to peg in a blind tasting of dry white wines. This Sauvignon Blanc is our best yet, with bright hints of white peach and grapefruit on the tongue and finishing with a strong duo of minerality and acidity. Resting at the top of the hill on our estate, this wine is a beautiful expression of the Monticello AVA

                                              • 2017 Zero White$9.50

Zero White is fruity and complex with orchid, lemon thyme, and a touch of jasmine on the nose. Mid palate, we have found grapefruit and pineapple accentuated by a creamy mouthfeel leading to a clean finish of raw coconut. This wine is rich yet lively which makes it perfect for the beach, garden parties, or your back porch

                                                • 2018 Viognier$11.50

With a light nose featuring notes of white pepper and lemon verbena, our Viognier immediately makes you say "ahhhh" when opened. Delightful to sip or pair with food, this wine has the nuance of honey and lychee on the palate making it fruit forward with a creamy mouthfeel. This Viognier finishes with a hint of spice and a light minerality that rounds it out nicely

                                                  • 2017 Chardonnay Reserve$12.50

We take our inspiration for our Chardonnay Reserve from Burgundy winemaking techniques. Aging 11 months in oak, 25% being new French oak, has resulted in a wine with complex aromas of honeydew, lemongrass and fresh orange blossom. While there are fruit flavors of honeydew and apricot, we also find a touch of banana and a comforting finish of freshly caramelized sugar. The clean, lingering finish offers medium oak and medium acidity making it a perfect food pairing wine

                                                    • 2018 Rosé$10.00

Our Rosé is both floral and fruity in the aromatics, like a basket of strawberries garnished with rose petal and a few sprigs of lavender thrown in for fun. The plush palate of watermelon gives way to tart raspberry, with a touch of meyer lemon. Our Rosé is not sweet but slightly dry, which makes it perfect for the spring and summer months, chilled and close enough to refill your glass without having to get out of the hammock

                                                      Reds

                                                      • 2017 Cannon Red$11.00

Named for our sister property in Charleston, Cannon Green, this wine may be easy to drink, but is complex and whimsical, "an easy drinking red for a serious red drinker". The nose has an easy smokiness and hints of blackberries and blueberry. Dried leaves, plum, clove and leather linger on the palate for a delightfully complex finish with medium body and tannins

                                                        • 2018 Red Pump$9.50

It's back! Our popular Red Pump is even better this year, with addition of Tannat. This gives it an earthy nose which transcends to deep black cherry and blackberry on the palate. The finish is slightly oaky with a nice light acidity and tannins. We suggest serving this at room temp or slightly chilled at a backyard barbecue

                                                          • 2017 Cabernet Franc$11.00

Our approach to this signature grape of Virginia is to highlight the aromatic energy of the varietal while bringing out the supple textures that reside in the grapes' skins. In our 2017 vintage we find notes of milk chocolate, sultana raisins and black pepper with hints of blood orange zest and lavender coupled with gripping tannins. Above all, it's versatile so it may be enjoyed in the backyard by the grill, or with friends at the table

                                                            • 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon$12.50

We take a classical approach to this varietal, highlighting the sour cherry and clove aromatics while working to both preserve and tame the substantial tannins and acidity this varietal is known for. From the extended maceration of the skins to the long barrel aging, we have found this vintage boasts chocolate and anise flavors leading to a spicy finish that is permeated with medium to high acidity

                                                              • 2016 Merlot Reserve$12.00

Our Merlot Reserve features a soft nose of chocolate and cassis, with subtle hints of black peppercorn and rose petal. The palate gives way to dark cherries, pomegranate seeds and fresh peppercorns while the medium tannins and acid on the finish play like the conversation that you're supposed to be having across the table

                                                                • 2016 Petit Verdot$13.50

Our 2016 Petit Verdot is our juiciest yet, with grapes from our estate vineyard filling this wine to the brim with dark, dark fruit. The result is layered aromatically with graphite and an abundance of plum, a concentrated mid palate with notes of clove, black currant and smokey charcoal that finishes with fine tannins and a touch of granite

                                                                  • 2016 Easton Blue$15.50

Our 2016 Easton Blue is our signature red blend. Rich up front with bayleaf, red currant and traces of cedar, the body remains grippy which emphasizes the leathery notes with hints of lilac. The finesse of the finish highlights the acidity while lingering tobacco notes make this one of our best food wines. Let it breathe, and enjoy!

                                                                    Dessert

                                                                    • 2016 Bin 21$11.00

Our Port is rich with balanced sweetness featuringdark cacao, black cherry, raisins, and sweet tobacco characteristics that come from the interaction of the oak and the brandy used for fortification. Bin 21 is easily the perfect wine for sitting by the fire on a cold winter's night

For menu edits, please contact SinglePlatform at (866) 237-4564.

Disappointed since the other seemed like a great deal, but pizza for dinner was not what we had in mind. We had arctic char and quail, both great. Kale salad a bit lemony for my taste. Lamp meatballs, delicious. Pear tart (albeit small) delicious. Wine was quite good but plan on spending at least $10 and upwards a glass.

The week prior to my event, I called twice to pre-order food and wine. I hosted a surprise birthday party for my husband and wanted food and wine available for guests since my husband and I would be arriving 30 minutes later. When we arrived, the food and wine I had pre-ordered had not arrived. Friends also told me that the table was not ready when they arrived at the appropriate time, and I had confirmed the reservation the day before. The service was slow and our waiter was in-attentive. We were also shooed off at 4:30 due to wedding preparations. I would have been much more understanding if I was notified of this prior when I had called. Another thing that rubbed me the wrong way was that I specifically asked for seating outside. I was told it was not guaranteed as it is first come first serve. Doesn't that defeat the purpose of a reservation? Pippin Hill is a lovely venue with a lovely view but I think they need to either focus on being a good reception hall or a good tasting room/restaurant. They obviously cannot juggle it all.

They asked that we preorder food but they were late sending me the menu; they were apologetic and some of my party ordered after their arrival. I knew that they preferred one check but in the info they sent me it said they would split the check however we wanted. My only complaint about our server is that he didn't ask, he just brought one check. One person in the party had gone to the bar and bought a bottle of wine as a gift for someone else; another person had gone to the bar, got a bottle of wine to drink but didn't pay for it at the bar. It was very difficult for me to figure out the check and everyone gave me cash and I paid the rest with a debit card. I got the short end of the stick; the receipt they gave me doesn't show how much cash they credited me; it looks like we were overcharged about $40. Everyone enjoyed the beautiful setting and their food but the portions were small and overpriced; the Sliders are probably the best value.

Pippen Hill has gorgeous views which is why it is a major wedding venue. We made reservations early and got seated on front porch with perfect open views of rolling hills and mountains. They get booked up quickly so highly recommend booking early. Setting is serene, and sets the tone for rest of this special weekend. There was a menu for the weekend, so we couldn't order their regular flatbreads. But cheese board is filled with cheese, glazed walnuts, cranberries/raisins, raw honey and smear of apricot. wonderful. oyster sliders were delicious, humus was flavorful. We did special toasts with their sparkling rose. Service was excellent and made you feel special. We felt well taken care of and loved seeing multigenerational families enjoying a relaxing afternoon.

Not particularly friendly and expected to adhere to a strict timetable, although in their defense it was Mother's Day. Food was fine but perhaps a little pricey for what it was. However, it's hard to beat the view. Essentially this is a purpose-designed wedding venue, that happens to serve wine and food when not engaged in over-priced nuptials.

Food is locally sourced and deliciously prepared. We have enjoyed every bite, every time. Here is a secret: on a beautiful day ask the waitstaff for blankets to sit on and enjoy the views from the lawn after your tasting and meal. The pippin hill wines are a quality we did not anticipate from Virgina vintners. We love the red pump, and white blend reserve.

It's beautiful, the food and wine are great However the service level has always been disappointing. I was there to celebrate my birthday this past Sunday with friends and family. We sat at a patio table and the service was horrid! I had to go to the bar several times and finally to the hostess to track down our server. He was still inattentive, until there was a wait and he was hovering for the check. I expect to be a little underserved, due to there apparent staffing limitations. There historical performance has always been a little hands off . But last weekend was redicous. We waited to order food and wine many times. Pippin Hill is staffed like a vineyard, and not like the resteraunt that they have become. It's a great spot to enjoy a glass of wine, but if your looking for a dining experience, I would look else where. This past weekend being the worst at three and a half hours for just some sandwhiches and cheese (we did not wait for the table,it was waiting for the server) All in all the service made for a poor experience, and just put a damper on my day, everything else was perfectly lovely. In the future I will be hesitant to eat there, especially with a large group.

The view is great, and they screen in the outdoor area during the colder months so you can still enjoy your food and wine "outside." The menu is delicious and the servers are knowledgeable and friendly. If you're doing a Charlottesville winery tour, make sure to add this one to your list!

Very respectable wine being produced there with a lunch menu that complements what they make. The Cab Franc is quite nice. We took my parents there to celebrate their 60th anniversary and discovered the place is very popular with the younger set . . . lots of bachelorette parties when we were there. This creates a great vibe. And the view! All in all, a wonderful day trip in the Charlottesville region. While you're there, keep going south and try Wild Wolf or Devils Backbone breweries!

Hostess was unorganized and was telling us another party was going to be seated before us because they were "very upset". We were also "upset" since we were 35 mins behind on our reservation. Also waiter was very odd. We were waiting for our bottle of wine and when we asked him he said we told him to go away that's why he didn't bring it-not sure where on earth he heard that!! Who tells a waiter to "go away". He also gave me wrong card back when paid bill and had to track him down to get mine back. This place is BEAUTIFUL- highly recommend but would suggest to management if they allow reservations they need to give tables times limits so others who made reservations are not just waiting around.
