We love Pippin Hill! It is a beautiful place with great food and wine. We'll go back again ASAP!
The Savor the Sunset is a once a month terrific dinner. Food was great, service was attentive, view was spectacular !
Good food but a little pricy; stellar view and ambiance. Outside chairs are uncomfortable. Bring a pillow to put behind your back.
Pippin Hill advertised its $40 prix fixe but the entree offerings were pizza only, so we opted for a la carte. Disappointed since the other seemed like a great deal, but pizza for dinner was not what we had in mind. We had arctic char and quail, both great. Kale salad a bit lemony for my taste. Lamp meatballs, delicious. Pear tart (albeit small) delicious. Wine was quite good but plan on spending at least $10 and upwards a glass.
Delicious, creative cuisine with spot-on wine parings. beautiful location with magnificent views, attentive and knowledgable waitstaff with dinner served in an inviting great room. Perfect for our post-Valentine's dinner! Highly recommend!
Still advertising the $40 Thursday deal, and in menu, but not doing it. Confusing
We had a great table for 8 outside. Even though it was raining, we were covered and could still enjoy the beautiful views. It's such a fun atmosphere and the food was fantastic. Of course, the wine was too!
All in all, I think I was rather disappointed with my experience at Pippin Hill. The week prior to my event, I called twice to pre-order food and wine. I hosted a surprise birthday party for my husband and wanted food and wine available for guests since my husband and I would be arriving 30 minutes later. When we arrived, the food and wine I had pre-ordered had not arrived. Friends also told me that the table was not ready when they arrived at the appropriate time, and I had confirmed the reservation the day before. The service was slow and our waiter was in-attentive. We were also shooed off at 4:30 due to wedding preparations. I would have been much more understanding if I was notified of this prior when I had called. Another thing that rubbed me the wrong way was that I specifically asked for seating outside. I was told it was not guaranteed as it is first come first serve. Doesn't that defeat the purpose of a reservation? Pippin Hill is a lovely venue with a lovely view but I think they need to either focus on being a good reception hall or a good tasting room/restaurant. They obviously cannot juggle it all.
Amazing Experience 100% will be back! Great food great wine, great view could not ask for more!!
We ate lunch inside and the noise level was too loud to have a conversation. Also the prices were high for the value received.
The scenery is amazing but there were 14 in our party so we had to dine inside (good thing because it was an extremely hot day). They asked that we preorder food but they were late sending me the menu; they were apologetic and some of my party ordered after their arrival. I knew that they preferred one check but in the info they sent me it said they would split the check however we wanted. My only complaint about our server is that he didn't ask, he just brought one check. One person in the party had gone to the bar and bought a bottle of wine as a gift for someone else; another person had gone to the bar, got a bottle of wine to drink but didn't pay for it at the bar. It was very difficult for me to figure out the check and everyone gave me cash and I paid the rest with a debit card. I got the short end of the stick; the receipt they gave me doesn't show how much cash they credited me; it looks like we were overcharged about $40. Everyone enjoyed the beautiful setting and their food but the portions were small and overpriced; the Sliders are probably the best value.
I was very pleased with everything except the entrees. The portions very small, the taste was mediocre and some in our party were finished eating long before others were served. I am confused as to why the appetizers were so good but the entrees were basically tasteless. I would still come back, but make a meal of just appetizers. The service was exceptional.
The food is great, the views are as good as or better than France or Italy, the servers are unfailingly cheerful, the wine plentiful. It's a wonderful meeting place for friends and family.
Visited during UVA graduation weekend and it did not disappoint. Pippen Hill has gorgeous views which is why it is a major wedding venue. We made reservations early and got seated on front porch with perfect open views of rolling hills and mountains. They get booked up quickly so highly recommend booking early. Setting is serene, and sets the tone for rest of this special weekend. There was a menu for the weekend, so we couldn't order their regular flatbreads. But cheese board is filled with cheese, glazed walnuts, cranberries/raisins, raw honey and smear of apricot. wonderful. oyster sliders were delicious, humus was flavorful. We did special toasts with their sparkling rose. Service was excellent and made you feel special. We felt well taken care of and loved seeing multigenerational families enjoying a relaxing afternoon.
I wondered if they are getting a little too big for their boots. Not particularly friendly and expected to adhere to a strict timetable, although in their defense it was Mother's Day. Food was fine but perhaps a little pricey for what it was. However, it's hard to beat the view. Essentially this is a purpose-designed wedding venue, that happens to serve wine and food when not engaged in over-priced nuptials.
Asked my wife where she wanted to go on Mothers Day. Pippen she said, Pippen we did. Its her favorite place. Especially the outside tables.
We love this place and have been quite a few times yet they just can't quite seem to get it all together. It is certainly worth the visit but just sit back and enjoy the wine as you could be there for a while.
I'm going to blame the poor service on it being the first 60 degree day since last fall but the dining room was awfully slow. There was 8 of us but our dishes were served anywhere from 30 minutes after we ordered to over an hour. I would go back again but the wait seemed extremely excessive.
The ambiance was wonderful. We were seated promptly for our reservation. The staff was attentive. The food... really subpar. Everything from the arugula side salad to the frisee to the chowder was over-salted. Someone clearly had a heavy hand and I like salt. I've been here twice in the last two months and will wait to come again.
You won't find a prettier spot to enjoy delicious wine and food with friends and family than Pippin Hill. If you haven't been, you need to go! If you have experienced Pippin Hill, enough said.
We took our sister here for an intimate bridal luncheon of 8 people. We made reservations for noon and had a great table with very comfortable chairs on the patio. The view was unreal! It was very busy but didn't feel crowded. The food was excellent and well worth the cost. And seeing the chef picking from the garden out back drove home the farm to table concept. We all raved throughout our two-hour lunch about the need to return. Can't wait to go back!
Beautiful location in the Shenandoah Valley 20 min from downtown charlottesville, va. Very popular for brunch so plan ahead and arrive early to snag a table outside or inside in the barn like center room if it is too cold to sit on the porch. Tasting bars are available Inside and out. Food is locally sourced and deliciously prepared. We have enjoyed every bite, every time. Here is a secret: on a beautiful day ask the waitstaff for blankets to sit on and enjoy the views from the lawn after your tasting and meal. The pippin hill wines are a quality we did not anticipate from Virgina vintners. We love the red pump, and white blend reserve.
I have been to pippin hill 10 plus times before. It's beautiful, the food and wine are great However the service level has always been disappointing. I was there to celebrate my birthday this past Sunday with friends and family. We sat at a patio table and the service was horrid! I had to go to the bar several times and finally to the hostess to track down our server. He was still inattentive, until there was a wait and he was hovering for the check.
I expect to be a little underserved, due to there apparent staffing limitations. There historical performance has always been a little hands off . But last weekend was redicous. We waited to order food and wine many times.
Pippin Hill is staffed like a vineyard, and not like the resteraunt that they have become. It's a great spot to enjoy a glass of wine, but if your looking for a dining experience, I would look else where. This past weekend being the worst at three and a half hours for just some sandwhiches and cheese (we did not wait for the table,it was waiting for the server) All in all the service made for a poor experience, and just put a damper on my day, everything else was perfectly lovely. In the future I will be hesitant to eat there, especially with a large group.
Pippin Hill is a great place to spend a lazy Saturday, Sunday, or really any day you just need a break. The view is great, and they screen in the outdoor area during the colder months so you can still enjoy your food and wine "outside." The menu is delicious and the servers are knowledgeable and friendly. If you're doing a Charlottesville winery tour, make sure to add this one to your list!
Great experience in the foothills of the Blue Ridge in VA. Very respectable wine being produced there with a lunch menu that complements what they make. The Cab Franc is quite nice. We took my parents there to celebrate their 60th anniversary and discovered the place is very popular with the younger set . . . lots of bachelorette parties when we were there. This creates a great vibe. And the view! All in all, a wonderful day trip in the Charlottesville region. While you're there, keep going south and try Wild Wolf or Devils Backbone breweries!
Was disappointed that we had a 2:15 reservation and didn't get seated until 2:50. Hostess was unorganized and was telling us another party was going to be seated before us because they were "very upset". We were also "upset" since we were 35 mins behind on our reservation. Also waiter was very odd. We were waiting for our bottle of wine and when we asked him he said we told him to go away that's why he didn't bring it-not sure where on earth he heard that!! Who tells a waiter to "go away". He also gave me wrong card back when paid bill and had to track him down to get mine back. This place is BEAUTIFUL- highly recommend but would suggest to management if they allow reservations they need to give tables times limits so others who made reservations are not just waiting around.
