Drinks were amazing, brunch by the river would be nice
The food was very salty and the service was poor. The drinks were very good. We ordered phories and those were salty. The chicken wings and the fried chicken sandwich were very good. The baby back ribs were also very salty.
Cute, fun and delicious. It’s somewhere I would go every Friday for a laid back night out.
The food at Piggyback is fine. The grain salad is great and the lobster roll was passable. Nothing special honestly. The noise level is awful and the music vacillated between loud and obscenely loud - to the point that we could not speak without yelling. Even after asking to move to a quieter area we were seated literally 3 yards away from the giant bar area, at a table next to the kitchen. This was odd especially since there is an entire section around the back that is significantly quieter. Our waitress was not friendly but I wouldn’t say she was rude either. She just seemed rather bored, kind of annoyed and pushy. She asked at least three times if we were ready to order even after we told her that myself and my dining companion hadn’t seen each other for a long time and would like to catch up over the bar snack and drinks we had already ordered. And it wasn’t like the restaurant was packed and people were waiting - at no point was the place overly busy and there were open tables at all times. The wait time for food was perfectly reasonable and my friend loved her fried chicken sandwhich. I do not recommend either the lobster roll or the onion petals. I would highly reccomend the grain salad though. It was light and tasty. I will say that the Thai chili margarita was very good and I probably enjoyed that most of all. The setting isn’t comfortable - the chairs are metal and have no softness or cushion so sitting for more than an hour is very uncomfy which is a shame. I understand this is a bar/bbq/casual place but I feel like comfortable chairs are a must have for any restaurant. Needless to say I wouldn’t go back voluntarily to Piggyback but I would go for a happy hour even for drinks and bar snacks.
I've eaten here a couple of times for dinner and it's been fine-to-pretty darn good. I brought my family for brunch this weekend and was really disappointed. Service was indifferent. I asked for my eggs to be 'not runny' to be informed that they do not cook eggs to temperature request; all eggs will be over easy, but they will ask the chef. Okay, I said, that'll work. Well, I guess the request annoyed the chef, because my eggs were not even 'over easy', but just plain raw. The whites were not cooked; it was disgusting. Oddly enough, my partner (who likes runny eggs) received eggs that were cooked to the point where they were not runny (which would have been good for me). My guest's 'medium' burger was well-done. The disco phories were very very very salty.
Our dishes were not brought out together and by the time the last dishes were delivered, the rest of the food was cold. I was embarrassed to bring my family there. Very unhappy.
Very limited menu. Everything was too spicy. No real options for non spicy food. Not a great menu. You leave without your tastebuds.
Second time to Piggyback Bar, this time for brunch. I booked on Open Table and asked the receptionist that we preferred a table outside. She was kind enough to reserve a table for us on the patio.
Ordered some drinks and the steak and eggs, lobster roll and the kimchi pulled pork sandwiches (last two came with spicy fries - addicting!) For desert we shared a "Flux Capacitator" cocktail. The food was very good, highly recommend this place. We will definitely be back to try some more!
I chose this restaurant based on an online list of recommendations in Jersey City. However, I was unfortunately disappointed. It's located in the ground floor of a large building, and lacks any sort of coziness. There were a couple of dishes not on the menu which were on the website menu. There was nothing of distinction that made me think it should be on anyone's 'recommended list'. The view is of course great, if you are facing it from your table - but it would be better to eat elsewhere and walk along the water afterwards.
Great food with a spectacular NYC view! Will be back again, and it will be one of my favorite places when my family and I are in downtown.
Took my wife and 4.5 month old out for date night. Made a reservation ahead of time that saved us a moderate wait and got a table outside with a view of the city. It was a perfect night. Staff is super attentive and food is amazing. Inside was a noisy happy hour crew with finance bros but outsiders sublime.
Food was ok. Hanger steak has no flavor unfortunately. But it was edible. Short ribs were a bit hard. And our server was great in service but a smile or friendly you're welcome wouldn't have hurt. Otherwise all was good.
Great drinks and food. Mike is great.
Excellent. Will be going back
This was our second time here and we love it! It's kind of a small menu but everything I've had was really good - their drinks and desserts especially! And you obviously can't be the view. We'll be back!
This really is just a place for getting together over drinks - cocktails were good, but not cheap for the amount of alcohol involved and the beer on tap list is good. Limited food menu. We asked for options that were not spicy and the server recommended a small list. One of the supposedly spicy options (corn dogs) was not at ALL spicy, whereas the grill seafood was spicier than reported to be. I do not recommend the ribs - the meat was dry but were swimming neck deep in an OK sauce.
The view is priceless! Drinks were amazing. We are sure to return
Our server was horrible- didn’t know menu, was unable to answer questions and clearly did not feel like working that day. We had one person in our party with a dairy allergy, she looked bothered by our questions. Then- we were told we could not add bacon to burger, for a child, chef said no. Waited forever for refills, forever for our check to have mediocre food. Burgers were not bad— everything else was just ok.
Best thing about this place was the view—- which we could not eat!!
The food it’s self was fair—- can’t say it was bad, or disgusting. It was our server who ruined it from the moment we sat.
We were greeted and seated immediately. Drink orders were filled quickly. Staff was attentive and friendly. Great food. $5. parking on Hudson St. Will be going back.
Yummy food and amazing views. Sit outside when the sun is coming down! Wings and salt and pepper shrimp were awesome. Definitely a great place to come to with friends
Friendly hostess and server. Both greeted and seated us immediately. Our seats were perfect, overlooking downtown Manhattan, as requested.
We started with 2 appetizers: disco phories and onion petals. The onion petals were amazing! It has that sweet, tangy and spicy kick to it. This was the second time I tried the phories and both times, it has been very salty.
For mains, I had the lobster roll with fries. Horrible for $19!The lobster roll was on a stale hotdog bun. There was so little lobster meat and the kaffir sauce was bland. They made it look pretty with bits of shoestring fries and cilantro for garnish. The fries was probably the best dish. I don’t recommend this!
My partner had the ribs. Over cooked and drenched in Asian 5-spice sauce. For $24, you get 6 tiny slivers of ribs and no sides!
Horrible! What you’re paying here is the view.
Great place! Great food! Would go again! Very good!
Delicious, creative food. Friendly staff. Great view of NYC.
Average food and haphazard service. The view is great if you can get a table outside.
Great from the beginning to the end. Host asked if we wanted to sit outside and let us know there was a bit of wait and walked us over to the bar to kill some time. Within 15 mins a table was available and she came to get us, the view is amazing. Freedom tower is directly in front of you and although it is a busy walkway it is not bad at all, it actually makes the environment very relaxed. Overall the staff is great and were very attentive although we were outside. As for the food, great as well. I recommend the lobster roll along with the edamame. Thank you for a great night dining out, will do again in a few months.
The menu had us with high hopes, but everything we ate was severely underwhelming. Soggy, fishy Lobster Benny. French toast that was so rich it was dessert. And the waitstaff didn’t really seem to know what they were doing or talking about.
I’d say the frosé, mimosas, and cocktails were average. My friends commented that the Bloody Mary has a lot of horse radish though.
The best things we consumed were a cappuccino and the pastry basket. Fairly priced, hot, and delicious.
Nice view, good server/staff, decent ribs
The food was tasty, with some clever flavor combinations. The cocktails were fine. The service was mostly attentive, but one of our appetizers got swapped with a main dish and they came out i nthe wrong order. Harborside Financial Center isn't the most scenic spot, but they do a good job making the space interesting. The tabletops -- maps of the area with brightly colored rail lines -- are a nice touch,
We went to try this relatively new restaurant in JC because I read about the Romanian heritage of the chef. We were seated inside, though I wanted to be outside, but all tables were taken and there was a 40 min wait. The inside is too chilly for my taste.
We ordered a beer and a cocktail and 3 appetizers to share (6 oysters, fried calamari, and spring rolls). The cocktail was nothing special, but the food was quite good.
I think this will be one of our "go to" restaurants in JC. If possible, get the outside tables, you will enjoy the view of lower Manhattan and Freedom Tower!
Excellent food. I love spicy and i live the view. It’s nice to sit outside.
Great experience! Food was excellent, service was very good and the atmosphere was great! Will come back again for sure! Aloha!
The service is pretty poor. Waitress brought an extra drink by accident after she already charged our cards and when I told her we didn’t order three drinks, only two, she said “oh well I already charged you and its here.” She didn’t even attempt to rectify the issue and take the extra beer off of our bill. This was also the second time I have had this particular waitress and she was not good either time. The food was pretty good but after two bad service experiences, I will not be going back.
Food was fantastic and filling, will be going back soon, don't pass up the paté!
Gorgeous view, spectacular food! Perfect stop for a Monday lunch with an old friend. Can’t wait to come back.
Loved our meal
Burger is nicely prepared, French sandwich outstanding. Very eclectic, nicely thoughtout menu with a myriad of items to choose from. Will definitely return.
Nice neighborhood place for Brunch. Prices are reasonable, and view overlooking the water is nice. We like the food overall, but we often find that the flavor is overdone (i.e. too much salt, too much spices, too much sauce etc). Would be great if they went easier on the salt/spices.
Awesome place, fantastic food! Great views and vibes.
Great choices of unique cocktails and Asian fusion bar food. Perfect view of the NYC skyline; it is right on the harbor/waterway.
We were really excited to try Piggyback, as we're new to Jersey City and it was highly rated on OpenTable. After trying it for dinner with friends last night, we will not be returning. First off, the ambiance is a little strange. It is located in the lobby of an office building, giving it that "airport restaurant" vibe. Its saving grace is that the view of the city is AMAZING, especially when it gets warmer and you can dine outside. The drink selection was good - we all had beer. Waiter was nice, but we warned him in the beginning that two of us do NOT like spicy. We ordered the Lumpia (spring rolls) and Disco Phories - both good, but lumpia dish was TINY and phories were a bit too salty. For dinner, the two of us that don't like spicy food ordered the pulled pork sandwich. The waiter did not warn us that it was spicy at all, and it was burn-your-mouth-off spicy. My boyfriend ordered the fried chicken sandwich. When he took a bite, the texture felt off, so when he cut it in half it was PINK inside. Absolutely undercooked and gross. Sent it back and they remade it, but we had it wrapped to go because it took so long. They comped us for the fried chicken sandwich, but I was very disappointed in the experience. Overpriced for what it was.
