Pig & Finch Gastropub Ratings and Reviews
Good food, good service a little pricey for what you get. I have been to this restaurant about 5 times in all of the seasons and each time the temperature in the restaurant has been cold. In the summer the A/C was cranking and in the winter the heat is poor.
Night one of KC Restaurant Week 2018 took us to Pig and Fitch. Oh, my goodness! All others restaurants are going to have to work very hard to match this night! Between our three diners, we had the lamb burger with fries, the KCRW price fixe tomato soup, salmon and chocolate mousse choice, fried pickles, a small wedge salad and the shrimp and grits. Every bite, every morsel, every sip and slurp were simple perfection! Our server was top-flight. The manager—doing tour-of-the-house duty—-was interested and attentive without drawing attention to the fact that he WAS paying attention. The beers were cold. The night was a complete joy!
Look at my past reviews for this restaurant on Open Table; nothing but glowing comments (I even said this in June: I wish all restaurants had the combination of food, service and decor that Pig & Finch does - one of my favorite restaurants anywhere in the country! The mussels are a must for a starter, and still are the best anywhere). Unfortunately, today I find myself trying to figure out how to remove the 'favorite' designation I have for Pig & Finch in Open Table. I truly cannot contain my disappointment.
Who at corporate 801 Restaurant Group has made these decisions might be a mystery, but those choices have lost you a very loyal customer. Let's start with the mussels being removed from the menu - weak decision! That fantastic dish has been our draw for many a spring/summer/fall outside dining experience - in the winter, too, just indoors. As a result, we ordered the lamb meatballs (excellent!) and the fennel sausage flatbread (we actually asked each other on the way home: did you taste any sausage on that flatbread?). Another favorite, the lamb burger, was materially smaller than every other visit we've ever made (ordered by 3 of 5 diners at our table). Lastly, the maple glazed pork, while still tasty, has gotten smaller and drier each time. On top of all this, the prices are going up more than just a little bit. While I don't have every receipt or price memorized, I'd bet the price of the trout (a favorite in the past, though we've avoided lately as not a good value) has gone up 25% in the recent past. I do not consider what we got last night worth the nearly $275 bill I paid.
This has been one of our true go-to restaurants, including taking many of our out-of-town guests here. Just recently, I took the senior leadership of a local company out, and Pig & Finch was my automatic choice. However, it's time to find a new favorite on the Kansas side of Kansas City.
Been here a few times, always good food but on this occasion our server barely paid attention to us. After we were seated he went missing & did not return to take our order for a very long time. He eventually came from the kitchen area, and was putting his apron back on... while he walked to our table. He said “oh....... um... did you want anything besides water?” We had already decided to just go ahead and order our meal since quite a bit of time had passed, and once the food was delivered to our table, he never came back to check on us - despite the restaurant only being about 30% occupied. We had to put considerable effort into watching for him to pass through so we could ask for our check. This would not prevent us from going back but I would not want him as a server again.
Had issue over taking Groupon coupon. Previous visits we used I coupon per guest check. We were informed on this visit that the fine print was 1 coupon per table. Since we had used the 1 coupon per quest before this was an issue. Manger would not cooperate. He should have allowed us to use both coupons this time only. Would have been much better approach. Will not return
We had a great meal, appetizer was good, drinks were good, service was good. I ordered shepherds pie which was good, and a very large portion. Since I didn’t finish it I asked for a to go box, which they put in a nice paper bag with handles I realize this meal is not a solid food, but when I got home, I noted the shepherds pie was packed up in a tall canister type container. So basically everything was dumped together. Totally gross and unappetizing so I threw it out.
I’m really upset about this because it cost $23 and I are about $5 worth.
Most likely won’t go back because of this
Went here for a date .Initial comment of hostess who sat us "we appreciate you spending your money here" then walks away, we thought it was odd. Waitress looked like she was the only server and rarely saw her. Food came out quick but service just took long with how busy she was. Just had the salmon app which was really good and French onion soup, but the top half was mushy bread and very cheesy. Overall it's nice for a quick bite or drink but when you consider the cost it's just not up quality.
Farm to table, unique dishes. We enjoyed the food but it was on the pricey side. My son had the shepherds pie- winner. My husband had the tomato soup and grilled cheese- another winner. I had the beet salad and french onion soup. Soup was good. Beet salad had small pieces of beet. Used to getting more. It was a little bland.
We had a wonderful dinner experience, the food, service, and atmosphere were excellent. We had the pork belly for our appetizer which was a delight oh so good. For our entrees we got the scallops, pork chop, prime rib salmon and shepards pie all the food was immaculate definitely something you couldn't get from home. The chef really does a great job plating and making sure all the food is sent out to perfection can really tell food is his passion. The service was also great we had Caitlyn as our waitress and she did a supurb job. The atmosphere is very nice as well we went on a couple date and we all really enjoyed ourselves. Oh and dessert was a little piece of heaven as well a great way to end an already great night. We will definitely be returning and can't wait to try other things on the menu
Scallops with green curry were inedible due to extreme saltiness. I sent them back to the kitchen and was told the salt was in the sauce so nothing could be done to remedy the dish. I was given an alternative and enjoyed the maple-glazed pork. My wife’s trout was good but not very flavorful. Brussel sprouts were good.
Wow. I’ve been here for dinner before but this time it was phenomenal! Great appetizers, fabulous but a bit expensive wine, and absolutely scrumptious duck entree...I want more of that, all the time. Good service, and I also tasted the scallops and steak. They were also wonderful.
I cannot say enough nice things about this restaurant; their food and their service. On this particular visit, it started out as 3 people for dinner at 6pm and morphed to 11 people - a business gathering. They were kind enough, without my knowledge, to move us to their private room. The food and service were outstanding all night, and the quality of interaction between the dinner participants was enhanced being in that private space. Many attendees from the two organizations had never met, so the restaurant's hospitality and service was even more critical in making the dinner more productive and valuable. In the end, I saw nothing but completely empty plates (and a few orders of the amazing donut holes) - enough said!
I would return for Happy Hour as the Manhattan was fantastic and lounge was very nice with great service. We had dinner and felt it was way overpriced. My trout was just okay...had way too much sauce and overpowered by almond flavor. My partner's burger was okay and again...nothing to write home about for the price. The location is great if you're going to a movie at the Town Center...but we'd do dinner elsewhere next time.
Our server, Jon, was very polite. He kept my coffee warm, despite the freezing temperatures pouring out of the A/C on me :) We had pork belly, muscles, scallops, curry wings. Everything was top notch. Thank you for such a wonderful lunch experience for us to celebrate our employees' birthday.
Always great service and great food! We live outside of the metro area, so after work, going BACK in is the last place my husband wants to go after a long day. This place is one of his favorites, so if I can get him to make the drive, you know its worth it!!!
