Love the people and the menu options!
Sadly, I have to admit (after many positive reviews) that this is no longer our go-to restaurant. There have been several menu changes, which unfortunately eliminated several of our favorites. We're always up for some new menu items, but the one I tried just didn't live up to expectations (not even sure it was really what it was supposed to be, per menu name). The signage outside talks about new menu, same quality - I have to disagree. We started w the crispy rock shrimp with jalapeno ranch dipping sauce. These were smallish shrimp with a lot of batter, deep fried and flavorless. Talking later that evening, we commented how there wasn't the slightest hint of jalapeno in that sauce. She had the cast iron trout, which was excellent as it usually is. I had the Thur special, bouillibase. Instead of in a traditional broth, this was in what appeared to be their San Marzano tomato soup. Again, there was not one iota of flavor in this dish. I had our server bring me Tabasco, Cholula and red pepper flakes - anything to give it some punch. Needing something a bit sweet to finish off, we got the donut holes, having enjoyed them previously. These were overcooked and a bit hard.
Here's the thing - after a very disappointing meal (the first one there, ever) last time, my review led to the then-manager contacting me and providing me a gift card to come back. I greatly appreciated that gesture, and returned. Unfortunately, what's been our longtime go-to place is, after this meal and discussion, not to be frequented again for a while. I struggled with even recommending Pig & Finch to a friend - I said yes, but not sure I really will.
Pig & Finch has a lot to offer to foodies and those whom value high quality ingredients and dishes. The ambiance is actually quite nice with some creative interior design that combines a classic rustic quality with playful murals and mood lighting. The food is quite good; we went for brunch and enjoyed steak and eggs (a KC strip with two eggs over easy, with nicely browned home fries) and a Pig & Egg, a well-crafted cheeseburger topped with a fried egg. The service was attentive and quick.
Great bar with great service. I love that you can choose to reserve a seat in the main dining room, in the bar, or on their fantastic patio.
Our waiter was Ben Ogan and I would rate him A+++. He has a great personality and was very informative. He explained how the restaurant got its name. We had the Friday special which was very good. I want to go back and try the pork belly.
Nice inviting place, has an upscale English pub type look. The menu is good for light to larger appetites & they have good weekday specials. We tried 2 different items, the Wed. weekday special of meatloaf with mashed pots & nice green beans, and a flatbread sausage pizza! The pizza was good but almost too many different flavors on it. Same with the meatloaf, too many different flavors. I know they try to make the food different from other restaurants, but would prefer it to taste similar to the traditional flavor. May be just us and our style is more traditional. But still a good place to relax and enjoy a good meal. Price was good & our waiter was excellent.
Another great dinner. Had the Duck breast and asparagus panzanella and they were amazing!!
Really great ingredients = really great food....and all prepared with skill — highly recommend
First time for Brunch and food was great , service excellent and price was just right
Good overall experience a little pricey for what you get food was good
I highly recommend the Waygu Burger, it was delicious!
Food was terrific! Service was slow considering it was the day after Valentine’s Day. We sat with our empty plates in front of us which is unacceptable. It would have been appropriate for waitress to acknowledge the plates even if she could not grab them right away.
Grilled cheese short rib was delicious. Service was very prompt and courteous.
Server was great, but time to get food was unbelievably slow, though the restaurant was not that busy. Food costs for what we got was not a great value.
Third time I ordered scallops with green curry. The first time was a few months ago and I sent them back due to extreme saltiness. The last two times including tonight the salt was better though less would be my preference. Nice service.
Amazing food. The chef has definitely spoiled us and forced us to raise our standards in cuisine! When asked a recommendation, our server promptly described the scallops and how amazing the aroma of the dish is when set in front of you. She was spot ON. Will definitely make this a date-night standard!
In my reservation, I added that it was a special occasion (birthday) and the server didn’t offer us a dessert or mention happy birthday. At least a mention of Happy Birthday would have been appreciated.
Me and my husband had our Valentine's dinner last night and of course it was an easy choice to pick where we wanted to go. Had Caitlyn as our waitress and she is always a delight. Had the potatoes crouquettes as our appetizer only one word "amazing". I had the new Wagyu Burger which by way cooked,to perfection (and am picky on my hamburger meat) the caramelized onions and cheese and bun just amazing burger. My husband had the espresso glazed pork shoulder with sweet potatoes and kale the presentation first is amazing and he loved it I tried it as well and it was so good but of course just love maple glazed anything. Had another great evening with great food and good atmosphere. Me and my husband really enjoy coming here
Use to love Pig & Finch. We’ve gone there since they’ve opened. Sad to see some stable menu items disappear from the menu. The small selection of entrees, overpriced menu items, and our favorite entree the BLAT disappearing (they can’t make it anymore, due to no longer purchasing avocado and the bread) sadly we will have to move on from Pig & Finch.
Usually, I get great service and food at Pig & Finch. Unfortunately, that did not happen this time! Not many people in the restaurant, hostess was our server and had to be flagged down for EVERYTHING. Never once checked on us. Pork shoulder was divine, but sweet potatoes were undercooked and almost inedible. Vodka tonics wet very weak and took forever to get. I sincerely hope this is an isolated incident. I do love the restaurant!
Went in this evening for dinner (heard about the new menu) and was glad to see they kept some of the favorites on the menu along with the new menu items. For our appetizer we had the gnocchi, I have had gnocchi before but nothing like this definitely recommend giving that try. For our entrees had the scallops and duck breast they were very tasteful and the dishes were layered to perfection. Wow these guys really know how to cook. Pig and Finch has never disappoint and will continue to be our local go to restaurant.
Have had wonderful experiences in the past. New menu is not clear and waiter was not able to give us a clear answer on of the questions we asked about the menu items. Food was not to the standards we have received during our past visits.
Our drinks and food were excellent; however, our service was terrible. My husband ordered the trout with head on but it was delivered with no head. When he mentioned this to our server, she said, 'We discussed this and I said I didn't want you to feel guilty while eating it." My husband said, "Right, but I said I was OK with it." There was no apology for her misunderstanding.
When I finished my salad, my plate sat on the table for 10 minutes along with my empty drink glass.
My husband ordered a second drink of Woodford Reserve Double-oaked. He said to our server, "I'd like a double of double-oaked. In other words, a double, Double." She stated, "I got ya. In fact, I may have one of those later tonight." Well, the drink came and while it was in fact a double, it was not Double-oaked. Thankfully we were only charged for regular Woodford Reserve.
My husband finished his meal and our server was very prompt in removing his plate; however, at that same time she said she'd be right back to take my plate to be boxed up. I was still eating!
She returned a very short time later and removed my plate while I still had my fork in-hand.
We ordered dessert after our server said the donut holes were excellent and came with a fruit sauce that was, "like a marmalade." When the donuts came, there was chocolate sauce but no fruit. Our server arrived at the table just as the donuts were delivered and said, "There is chocolate but not fruit." I stated that we had ordered them because of the fruit that she had said was delicious. She said, "Oh, well that's seasonal; they don't have it right now." (The fruit sauce was listed on the menu and she had specifically stated there would be a fruit sauce with these when we asked for recommendations.) Again, there was no apology and no offer to remove the cost from our bill.
Luckily the food was excellent (except the donut holes, which were average at best) or we would not be returning.
My husband and I like to go to restaurants to treat ourselves and try new things. This restaurant did not disappoint. The staff was great with recommendations. I hope to go back soon and try the Sunday brunch.
Great service & food, but long initial wait for a glass of water. Really enjoyed the interesting menu choices.
Great as usual
Great experience, we will be back! We loved the grilled artichokes!!
Overall okay. Food was good. Went there for restaurant week. Ordered off the fixed menu. Surprised the waitress was unfamiliar with the wine menu. Also the waitress didn’t seem to care that much. Never once ask us how our food was. Very strange to be honest considering it was restaurant week. Wish we had the young man waiting on the table next to us. He seemed very engaged. For the price it was okay. Spent $137 with drinks and tip. Not sure we would go back there are plenty of other restaurants in Kansas City to choose from.
We went there for our first time during Restaurant Week. Arrived at 2:30 PM for a late lunch at the $15 pp price. Were seated in the bar. The bartender/waiter/host was quite welcoming & attentive. We ordered the Pub Mac sandwich which was very large & tasty. (Had to eat it with a knife & fork.) My first course was a unusual tomato soup. My husband ordered the house salad & commented that it tasted really fresh. We both loved the French fries.
Our only complaint was that we waited a good 30 minutes for our second course. The restaurant was not busy so we had no idea what took so long. There was no explanation or apology given for the long wait, which kinda left a bad taste.
Would recommend it if you get your food in a timely manner.
We had a great dining experience here, the service was terrific. Our server was very attentive, helpful and pleasant, he made our evening even more pleasant. The food was outstanding, we had the special menu for restaurant week. I especially loved the cream puff dessert! We will be back at least by spring when we can sit outside.
Good food, good service a little pricey for what you get. I have been to this restaurant about 5 times in all of the seasons and each time the temperature in the restaurant has been cold. In the summer the A/C was cranking and in the winter the heat is poor.
Delicious Pub. It’s a must try.
We visited Pig and Finch for lunch during Restaurant Week and were glad we did. We had never been there but will definitely visit again. The food was very good and the service was just right.
Excellent as always..never disappoints
Night one of KC Restaurant Week 2018 took us to Pig and Fitch. Oh, my goodness! All others restaurants are going to have to work very hard to match this night! Between our three diners, we had the lamb burger with fries, the KCRW price fixe tomato soup, salmon and chocolate mousse choice, fried pickles, a small wedge salad and the shrimp and grits. Every bite, every morsel, every sip and slurp were simple perfection! Our server was top-flight. The manager—doing tour-of-the-house duty—-was interested and attentive without drawing attention to the fact that he WAS paying attention. The beers were cold. The night was a complete joy!
Before movie brunch meal. Both my daughter and I ordered the Pig Muffin. It was so delicious. Biscuits and gravy ordered by my son-in-law was skimpy, both on biscuit and gravy. But tasted great. Brunch drink menu has some tasty libations.
Look at my past reviews for this restaurant on Open Table; nothing but glowing comments (I even said this in June: I wish all restaurants had the combination of food, service and decor that Pig & Finch does - one of my favorite restaurants anywhere in the country! The mussels are a must for a starter, and still are the best anywhere). Unfortunately, today I find myself trying to figure out how to remove the 'favorite' designation I have for Pig & Finch in Open Table. I truly cannot contain my disappointment.
Who at corporate 801 Restaurant Group has made these decisions might be a mystery, but those choices have lost you a very loyal customer. Let's start with the mussels being removed from the menu - weak decision! That fantastic dish has been our draw for many a spring/summer/fall outside dining experience - in the winter, too, just indoors. As a result, we ordered the lamb meatballs (excellent!) and the fennel sausage flatbread (we actually asked each other on the way home: did you taste any sausage on that flatbread?). Another favorite, the lamb burger, was materially smaller than every other visit we've ever made (ordered by 3 of 5 diners at our table). Lastly, the maple glazed pork, while still tasty, has gotten smaller and drier each time. On top of all this, the prices are going up more than just a little bit. While I don't have every receipt or price memorized, I'd bet the price of the trout (a favorite in the past, though we've avoided lately as not a good value) has gone up 25% in the recent past. I do not consider what we got last night worth the nearly $275 bill I paid.
This has been one of our true go-to restaurants, including taking many of our out-of-town guests here. Just recently, I took the senior leadership of a local company out, and Pig & Finch was my automatic choice. However, it's time to find a new favorite on the Kansas side of Kansas City.
Excellent service great food and drink. Our second time there and won’t be our last
Went to an afternoon movie then dinner with my wife.
