Pietro's Italian restaurant was founded in 1932 by brothers Natale and Pietro Donini. While ownership has changed hands, the recipes and traditions that the brothers created have lived on. New York City has no shortage of Italian restaurants, but Pietro's stands out from the crowd. The dedication to excellent service and cuisine is what attracts both tourists and residents.
Authentic Italian cuisine is what you will find on the extensive menu at Pietro's.
Waited for 15 minutes to be seated. Host was doing paperwork. The place wasn’t busy. Food was good. Very slow service
Friend and I went back to 'Pietro's' for lunch. It's become our "go to" place. Consistently delicious and comfortable. Located conveniently close to Grand Central Station. We shared the wonderful house salad and, not being terribly hungry, I ordered the shrimp scampi appetizer which was scrumptious and sizzling hot. Soak it all up with the delicious bread!
My wife wanted an authentic Italian meal in NYC and Pietro’s delivered. Service was exceptional and the food outstanding. Best chopped salad I’ve ever had!
Excellent food and great staff. Classic spot.
I had requested a table at the bar and it was ready when I got to the restaurant 15 minutes early immediately the waiter asked if I’d like a drink while I waited — was very attentive as I noticed with everyone.
My date came. We ordered. Food was spectacular as usual
Ambiance is sort of old school NY with a great vibe.
Best chicken parmigiana in NYC, delivered fast :)
The entire experience was wonderful! The food was delicious and the service impeccable. Would definitely go back again!
First time to Pietro's. Dined there because it was close to the hotel we were staying in. The meal was wonderful, the service was just as great. We really enjoyed our evening!
Excellent meal, excellent service. It was my first time eating there and I already can’t wait to go back
I've been coming here for almost 2 decades. Always consistent and amazing food!
Old time neighborhood Italian. Salads are a must. House and Caesar very fresh and yummy. Huge portions. Veal delicious. Would love to find my one one fav there Big selection of preparation styles. Waiters ate extremely old time professional.
Consistently excellent classic Italian restaurant with patrons that have been going there from there childhood, why, because the food is that good. Unique is that their NY Strip is the best in NYC. Caesar Salad, this is the standard made from scratch at the side table. No show or phony ness, just done properly for each table.
Love this place and have for many years. All the good things about "Old School" and that is definitely meant as a compliment. My simple, favorite dinner for two is the Famous Chopped Salad, Shells a la Nat and Steak for Two...perfect for a couple or a couple of buddies.
I will definitely return
Excellent old school Italian restaurant - Eat there almost every time we are in NYC.
Caesar salad is one of the best. Italian entrees very good. Generous portions.
Definitely worth trying if you haven't eaten there..
Love this place. If you’re in the mood for old school style Italian in a relaxed atmosphere then this is for you. Service is professional and the clientele chic as well. Quality of the food and taste is amazing. Good cocktails too. I highly recommend it.
Pietro's is a neighborhood gem. The restaurant is cozy, quaint and has a welcoming ambiance. We were greeted by one of the owner's sons and seated immediately. The staff were highly attentive at all times. The menu is simple, but don't be fooled. The food is outstanding. Yes, everything is a la carte, so it can be pricy. The veal Parmesan is absolutely delicious. We enjoyed good wine with dinner. It was well worth the price and when we are back in NYC, I would have dinner there again.
An established location with wonderful service and sense of history. The menu is varied and includes many classic Italian dishes, which are easy to return to over and over.
The service is just right - attentive without being distracting. Love the Chicken Parmigiana.
Booking through open table showed space available only @ 5:30 PM or after 7PM on both days we considered. Booked at 5:30, waiters standing around, waited 15 minutes until we ultimately had to ask someone for a menu. We were the only patrons there until 6PM. when we left at 6:30 PM the restaurant was only 25% full! Why no reservations at 6PM or 6:30 PM available on website ??? This was a big disappointment. Otherwise, food was very good !
TurtleBayDon Sorry for the inconvenience. We do shut of Open Table requests between certain times because, more often than not, the restaurant is completely full at these times. We have 90% regular customers coming in each and every day. So as I'm sure you can imagine, we must make the best attempt we can to make sure they're taken care of. You are more than welcome to call the restaurant for reservations. If we are able to honor your request we most certainly will. Thanks
Food was great. Service was attentive. Portions are quite big but the price reflects that.
We thought the steak was excellent but were disappointed in the linguini and white claim sauce. It lacked any olive oil which was surprising. Also my wife and sister in-law asked for Pelligrino. They were told they do not serve it. Five minutes later they saw a large bottle of Pellegrino on a nearby table.
I love this place! It’s comfortable, friendly, and the food is second to none. I highly recommend it.
Tremendous experience. The homemade pasta with bolognese sauce was delicious. Service was very friendly and attentive. Highly recommend it!
It was meeting up with a old friend who’s parents & my parents use to eat their, then he & I then our families now our children still all eat their. Best Italian food in the city!!!!
This is a wonderful place to enjoy a night out with friends. The food is amazing and service very friendly. They never rush you. Would recommend highly.
Pietros is an old red sauce restaurant that can not be beat.I try to go there every time I am in NYC.The drinks are good ,the meals outstanding(try the veal-out of this world tender),Pasta great.
Second trip to Pietro’s and we will come back every time we are in NYC. Greeted by Billy who remembered us from our visit last year. Such a warm welcome! Drinks before and after dinner with Raymond tending bar. Awesome! The atmosphere is so cozy and welcoming and the food was exceptional! Service impeccable!
Pietro's was ever wonderful. The food and service were consistent and excellent. I took a friend to dinner to celebrate their birthday and Pietro's did not disappoint. We had a marvelous dinner and we will be going back for yet another fabulous meal!
This is our favorite lunch restaurant near Grand Central Station. This is an "old fashion" Italian restaurant with "old fashion" meant in the best of terms. The ambiance, the service, the food, ... are just as you would hope for - and it is consistently the same. We have enjoyed every meal we have had here and look forward to returning each time we visit the city.
Everyone was extremely friendly. Food was just okay- kind of disappointing, but the ambiance and the service made up for it.
It’s a great old time Southern Italian. Anything they serve is a great meal.
Very good old school food, great friendly service. Will definitely go again!
Probably one of the finest dining experiences of my life. Can't rave enough about Pietro's.
Not too many salad options for lunch
Wonderful old school Italian place. I want a plaque on the wall!
It is my favorite Italian Restaurant in NYC, it is consistently great, on all accounts
A hidden gem!
Excellent find in midtown for "old school" Italian. Fast service, pleasant host (? owner) who visited each table to check that everything was ok. Very unassuming store front but welcoming inside on a cold January weekend night. Recommend the Caesar Salad, fettuccine alfredo, and spaghetti and meatballs. Large portions with plenty of leftovers. Tiramisu was an excellent "to go" dessert at the end of the night. If you're a smaller group and can't get a reservation on Open Table, consider just showing up to eat at the bar. Will definitely go back the next time I'm visiting family in the area.
An old style Italian restaurant serving good food and providing good service. The calf's liver was excellent but served with too much onion and the bacon was too crispy. Regardless, we enjoyed the meal and the quite room. Would go back when in the area.
