Pierpont's at Union Station Ratings and Reviews
We made a reservation through Open Table. We were seated pretty close to the time of our reservation, so no issue there. We were there for a small company dinner, so there were only 5 of us. When the waitress came to our table, I asked her to tell me about any recommendations, (as I have not been there before) and she quietly mumbled "ok, great. It's not like I'm busy or anything". That was just the start of it. She was extremely rude and seemed "put out" to be doing her job if we asked for anything. The 5 of us spent $1,000 on dinner (pre tip), and when she brought the credit card back after paying, she said "I accidentally charged another tables dinner on here too, but it should come off in a few days or whatever". There was no apology for the debacle, or anything.
The food was good, not great...but good. It was good enough that I would eat there again, so no issue there. We were not a "difficult" table, or ask for anything out of the ordinary. The point is, when you are spending in the $200 per person range, you should be treated better than if I were buying happy meals at McDonalds for me and 4 screaming kids.
My husband and 2 of our children ate here after the theatre during the holidays. We arrived a bit early for our 7:15pm reservation and were pointed to the packed bar. We ordered some cocktails and when we could grab a seat, we ordered the charceuterie/cheese plate, chips w/ truffle aioli. The kitchen must have been swamped, it took forever. Even though we had a reservation, it was nearly 8pm before we got our table. Why bother w/ reservations? We were seated in a noisy section and again, subpar service. One of us had scallops, which were good. Not a large portion, by any means. Two of us had the filet (one w/ mashed potatoes, the other with asparagus). Mine was not cooked properly and I had to send it back. It was very good when it came back though! My husband had one of the other steaks, which he said was very good. We shared the maple creme brulee for dessert. It was ok, but I'm not a huge fan of maple. It was a bit runny and the pecans stuck to your teeth. I thought they would have been more crunchy. My husband had a Mexican coffee, nothing special, but ok. I had a Golden Cadillac. I couldn't drink it. It was a bit heavy in black licorice flavor, which I don't care for. Like I said, crowded, loud, mediocre food, high prices, and poor service=we won't be back, very disappointed. I don't feel like I went out for my big holiday theatre night.
It must be Holiday Time - Pierpont's was crazy jammed!
When in Kansas City we try and dine at Pierpont's and have always, always had a very positive experience. Alas, our December 9 visit left us disappointed. Our cocktails at the overly crowed bar were exceptional and while our food was exceptionally tasty, unfortunately temperature-wise it had cooled substantially in the kitchen - not cold, but not piping hot either.
Our server(s) were friendly and fairly efficient, but from sitting down at our table to signing the credit card, we were 95 minutes. We suffered long delays between servings.
We'll lay the blame this time on a slammed kitchen from an immense Saturday night Holiday crowd that apparently the kitchen hadn't ramped up for.
We'll give Pierpont's another chance next time back in town; we'll see how they perform.
We dined here on a recent Friday night. We'd dined here earlier before seeing a show and just did appetizers and drinks and decided to come back. We did the tasting menu which had some interesting choices on it. Everything we had was delicious, but notably the sweet corn chowder, duck entree and steak entree were standouts. We aren't big bread eaters, which is a good thing because the loaf we were served was hot and crispy on the outside but cold inside. Service was very professional. Wines by the glass are pretty interesting, but the prices are high for the size of the pours--probably about 5 oz only. Parking is available on the lot or in the attached garage. The bar area is cacophonous during happy hour and spills over into the first dining room. If that's an issue, request further back in the restaurant.
Eating at Pierponts is normally a great event. Food was good this visit, but the kitchen was painfully slow and food quality was off. Server kept us informed but nothing he could do. The management did offer us a coupon for the next visit, which was appreciated. Just goes to show that all of the parts of the restaurant need to work together to create a great meal.
Pierpont's is always a pleasant experience from the food to the service. We had the tasting menu and loved the butter lettuce salad, the rabbit, the steak, and the bread pudding. The service is always top-notch and personable. Pierpont's is always one of our favorite restaurants in Kansas City.
Had a issue with one of our steaks as it came to us well done vs. medium. They quickly resolved the situation by remaking it and giving us a complementary cheese tray in the interim. When the bill came they had made the steak meal complementary as well - all without asking
Ordered medium-well $60 steak, came medium rare, returned it and they brought it back still medium rare but charred on the outside.
Vegan steak is a joke. They should remove it from the menue or reduce the price from $23 to not more than $3-$5. I guess they had bad day in the kitchen because other reviewers seem relatively satisfied with the experience. Sorry, but we will not give them another chance.
Pierpont's never disappoints on the quality of the food. Delicious steaks and pork chops with a variety of sauce options and great soups, salads, sides and desserts. Amazing bar - really one of the very best in Kansas City. Great place for a casual and moderately priced lunch, or a night on the town for a special occasion. The night we were there was extremely busy, as it was the evening of the tree lighting ceremony at Union Station. Service was fairly slow and a bit disjointed, which is not characteristic of the usual service at Pierpont's.
The food was exceptional; the service was poor, at best. The server was rude; the bill was incorrect. In the interest of transparency, the manager did apologize and I'm sure he addressed the issue. We were not the only party that had to deal with incorrect orders and lack of acceptable service. For a meal at this price point, it was disappointing.
Another amazing night at Peirpont's. Both the Filet and Salmon were cooked perfectly and the service was amazing. I ordered the Crab and Corn Bisque and didn't care for it (there was nothing wrong with it, but it just wasn't for me) and our server very graciously took it off the bill without me asking or to be honest caring if they did. As always I will be back to enjoy the great food again shortly.
Met my son and grandson in KC for a sporting event and wanted to take them out for a special meal.
the setting in the train station is really neat and my 13yr old grandson really was impressed.
Pierpont's is considered the best steak house in town. i thought it was very good but can't say it was any better than lots of steak restaurants i've eaten in before.
the portions were generous, the food was good and the service was friendly and efficient. it is pricey. a nice evening but not a memorable experience.
1st time in for a birthday highly recommended by a coworker. Steak was excellent, other Food was good, desserts were ok. Had an excessively long wait and the waiter was slow but attentive. We did get comped for our drinks and dessert so can’t complain too much but definitely won’t be back just was not what we expected
This is my favorite restaurant in Kansas City. I. love the architecture of the train station and the food and service at Pierponts is first rate. I went early and had three small plates with wine sitting at the bar. Each plate was nicely prepared and served in a nice order. I especially liked the Braised Rabbit on a cold day. The personnel early in the evening have time to visit and are as enthusiastic about the place as I am
Wedding Anniversary. Table was small and room was hot. Aside from that drinks were great, food was okay. Menu was a little disappointing. Bread is awesome. Crab and corn soup was excellent. $30 lobster tail add on to the filet was unremarkable. Brussels sprouts were over done. Steak was ok. Cooked perfectly. Waitress was great although service got really slow. It was a good experience although for a $300 dinner for 2 I expected wow vs okay.
