Pierpont's at Union Station Ratings and Reviews
We had reservations for 7pm arrived at 6:55pm and was told table was being prepaired and that we should not waste time going to the bar to get a drink because we would not have enough time. We waited 10 minutes to be seated after 3 other groups were seated as soon as they walked up. The hostess and some other workers kept coming up to hostess stand and whispering and looking at us. Was a obvious issue. Had it not been a date night I would have left We were seated at a table 3 feet from the next table. It was obvious that the table wae a large table split into 3 tables. All dinner I felt like we were part of the couple next to us.We waited 10 mins or longer for a menu. Server kept blaming kitchen was backed up but food was lukewarm at best. Something tells me that if kitchen was that backed up food would be hot. This was the place my girlfriend and I had our first date and was coming back again. Was more than unpleased. If I wanted to sit 3 feet from some complete strangers we could have went to somewhere that we didn't spend $150. This place deffintly left a sour taste in my mouth. So many lies. Dinner took over 2 hours. Smh last time we will be back there.
For the price to food was only so so. If you’re going out there are much better options for the price around Kansas City. The food was not terrible but Valentine’s menu was not worth $75 per person by any means. The restaurant is very peaceful and the service is above and beyond I have no complaints in those departments. When I go to a higher end restaurant I usually expect the steak to be cooked correctly and the wine glass to be filled more than 1/4 of the way.
We have always held Pierpont’s with high regard. The valentines meal fell short. The salad was average. In KC you expect good beef. It was average. I had the strip, my husband had the filet...both were chewy and lacked flavor. Desserts were average. Overall, we choose Pierpont’s over many restaurants for a really nice valentines dinner...and it was not :(
Everything was outstanding the entire evening at Pierpont's until we left the parking lot. We had our parking ticket validated at the desk yet when we left the lot we had to pay $5.00. After spending $300 on our meal we obviously could afford it, it was just unexpected that the meter did not honor the validation. Then we put in a $20 bill and got $15 in coins! UGH!
I have never been more impressed with fine dining than I was coming here. As a hard of hearing person, it’s hard to find a place as accommodating as they were to my needs. And to top that off, there was a small unfortunate event that could have made the night go downhill, but they went above and beyond to make sure we felt cared for and taken care of. It may seem a little pricey for some, but the food and service definitely makes it worth it. We will be back!!
We were seated promptly. Courtney provided great wait service. Our entrées were prepared as requested and both were excellent.
The manager checked on us twice.
The desserts were excellent, however, my date felt the custard in the crème brûlée should have been bit sweeter.
Lovely as always. I was taking my dad to lunch for his 87th birthday and he enjoyed his meal a great deal. He turned down a complimentary birthday dessert because he didn’t care for the selection, but that’s on him! Great service and all the food was very good.
While the server was excellent, and atmosphere perfect for an early Valentine’s Day dinner with my wife, my dinner selection (short ribs) was absolutely atrocious. Honestly they were the worst short ribs I’ve had in my life: flattened, dry as dust, tough as leather, and cold. The side that came with this was equally awful. My wife’s selection (seared scallops) were fine but with just three, were over priced. My appetizer (muscles) were average at best but also cool and a small quantity (think, a cup of muscles). If it weren’t for a great desert (an orange chocolate tart) I’d have tried to give a food rating lower than one star.
Even great restaurants (and chefs) can have an off night or a bad dish; I just have ( want to) assume that’s the case here. But after I mentioned to my wife it had been maybe ten years since coming here, I wondered if my experience and impression then was the same as now given I usually return to a great meal. I’m perhaps the beneficiary of an unlucky and random poor experience, but it may be another ten years for me to forget this one and try again.
Fortunately, the server (Ethan) made up for some of this with his perfect service and demeanor. And I was there for the company in any case, to share time with my beautiful wife. That, fortunately, made the evening overall surpass the inconvenience of my disappointing menu selection. Despite all of this, I wish only success for this iconic restaurant at historic Union Station and hope this input may contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and better quality in the months and years ahead.
The service was good. I really didn't like them putting us in a room way in the back. It seemed a little weird. I had a fillet. My husband had the aged ribeye. Both of us remarked they were dry. Not very juicy at all. The ribeye was a little better in the flavor. The parmesan asparagus was alittle bland and the cheese was just big chunks of parmesan and didn't really do much for it. The pear and almond salad was really good.
Asked to move to quieter room rather than bar area. Acoustics are terrible when lots of people talking at bar. Very hard to hear. Booth on next room was better. However that got loud as their was a wine party but that was still much better than bar area. We love people having fun but we're just old and that "echoey " sound in bar area is hard.
The food was very good. Our server seemed less than interested in providing great service. We seemed to pull teeth to get our server to provide a good experience. We left after only drinking half our bottle of wine to go somewhere else. We love to experience our meal, we were left wanting more. Good food and great atmosphere.
Located in the historic KC Union Station with lovely quiet atmosphere. Salmon on french rice was delicious. I liked the option of a small wine serving. Not a large selection but well thought out dishes. Easy to walk there through the enclosed overhead bridges if you are staying at one of the Crown Center Hotels.
The food was wonderful, and our waitress was lovely. I went with my mother and four children. Overall, it was a wonderful experience. The hostess were not as helpful. I felt ignored at first as the two talked amongst themselves, and their was some confusion over my reservation (which I still do not understand), but the manager immediately jumped to get us seated quickly and comfortably. The food was amazing!
Had been there for a couple years. Menu is too weird when it comes to seafood etc. Should have ordered steak. No more calamari? Just is not how I remembered it. Wife had steak it was great, salads great just the non steak items weird description and small portions. Desert was awesome.
Dined at Pierponts for restaurant week and was thoroughly impressed. Out of the couple restaurants I chose this year for restaurant week this was my favorite. The value of the menu was outstanding, as you would normally spend $75 per person for the same items not during restaurant week. The steaks were cooked to perfection and everything we had was delicious. I also love the "beauty and the beast ladder" in the bar :)
