Absolutely terrible, took my wife for our anniversary. We sat down and our waiter did not come to our table for 15 min. Ordered a drink waited another 15 min, then our waiter took our order and after another 20 min wait and I waved him down he said it would be right out. Then he came back 10 min later and said that our appetizer was no longer on the menu. We calculated that we were there for 1.5 hours until our meal came to our table and our steaks were extremely cold. I was going to send it back but our waiter never came back to ask. Finally I got up and gave my card to the first waiter I could find and paid. For spending $250 dollars It was the worst service I have ever experienced .
For a restaurant at this price point, you would not expect them to fall short in the areas that they did. We had to request bread from our server, as it was not offered as it was with other tables, and later for a spoon that was supposed to come with the dish for one member of our party. The oysters were pathetically small. If they were meant to be, they should be described as petite on the menu. I ordered the special for the evening and it was described as having blue crab and Bearnaise sauce for the steak, which did not arrive with my meal, and our server did not notice. At this point, I just ignored it as a matter of decorum for the sake of the other couple dining with us. My wife had to remind our server to bring her the dessert that she had ordered. Our checks were not split properly and that could have been handled more gracefully. I felt that our server was not professional enough nor had the demeanor for an establishment of this type. The final issue I had is that my bill charged me a dollar more than the drinks that I had ordered than the price listed on the menu. For me, it defined the lack of accuracy exhibited by this establishment.
Whenever I am in Kansas City I try to have a meal here. The Union Station in KC is a destination in and of itself and this restaurant is wonderful, special and worth your time and money.
Really enjoyed Pierpont's from the food to the service, excellent. Especially loved the red wine glasses! Love the Ambiance and love being down at Union Station.
It was good
We both did the 3-course small plate tasting and it was wonderful! I got the mussels, salmon, and blonder and was thoroughly impressed with the food, presentation, and service! I’d absolutely come back.
This was one of the very, very few times that Open Table steered me wrong. Unfortunately, the previous reviews were nothing like our experience. Perhaps Chef was off on Wednesday night...I hope so, because (way) over-cooked scallops, a meager, tepid seafood bordetto, and a “commercial” cinnamon cake desert were nothing close to what we expected, or anything one would recommend. We heard the menu had recently changed, so maybe the transition is still underway... The service (John? Jonathan?) and ambiance were both outstanding, however.
Great location in historic Union Station. Classic business meal restaurant leaning towards formal. Nice range of entrees from salads to sandwiches to entrees. The Chef's salad was wonderful and the beef tongue tacos were tasty if a bit on the small side for a lunch. I'll go again.
Anniversary dinner. Outstanding. Courtney, our server, didn’t miss anything. Highly recommended.
Great restaurant. Professional staff. Excellent food. Quiet atmosphere. All around a wonderful experience.
We would come back here for a special occasion.
We did the four course small plate menu and everything was good. The mushroom risotto was more like a side dish then an appetizer but the flavor was good. The banana bread pudding was good but the sauce was covered up with the liquor they used to flambé it and it tasted to strong of it so I couldn’t eat the sauce.
We were seated directly at our reservation time with no waiting. Our waitress was wonderful with perfect timing the whole visit. Our drinks were kept refilled, and the food was delivered hot and timely. I ordered the tasting menu which had interesting options. One of my choices was the cactus pear soup. I missed the fact it had cucumbers in it which I don't like at all, so I pushed it aside after one taste. The waitress noticed, checked to see it was alright, and when I explained that it was my error, she insisted that they could provide something different, and in the end, provided me with a free dessert to compensate for the dish I didn't eat. I hadn't complained, and it was my responsibility to read the menu, but my server went above and beyond to ensure that I left satisfied and happy with the value and taste of my meal. I will definitely return to this restaurant, it was nice to experience this level of commitment to the customer.
Best rib-eyes ever!!!!
This is one classy restaurant. We can't say enough about it.
Every time i am in Kansas City, i make a point to go Pierpont this will most likely be my last time. My steak was grossly over cooked by the time the waiter came back to see how the diner was the rest of my party was 3/4 finished their meal and the waiter seemed to be completely indifferent to the fact that my steak was so overcooked. He did offer me a free desert but i did not go to the restaurant for desert.
A bit pricey for the area
Well done filet was very undercooked. My husband,s aged steak was full of gristle. We had to move out of our booth in the middle of the meal because the back was broken and the person behind me was hitting my back. During the move my appetizer was not transferred. Worst yet!
We did Friday night with 6:30 reservations. Arrived few minutes before and were seated promptly. We settled on the small plates menu which we had previously enjoyed. Overall, this was the best meal yet. The steaks were done perfectly. Good service. We will return.
We ate from the Small plates menu & really enjoyed our meals. The food was delicious & as ordered. Our service was good & because it was our anniversary, we were offered dessert "on the house"--very nice touch. Overall a very nice experience.
We live in Lawrence and travel to Pierponts for special occasions, birthdays, anniversaries and such. Our experience during this visit was like our previous visits, very good. Next birthday or anniversary, we'll be back.
Best Easter Brunch I've ever had. Very unusual and tasty options. Nice quiet relaxed atmosphere.
High hopes at first. Waitress was nice and prompt. First course was good. Second course wasn't so good. My husband ordered the filet and the waitress didn't ask how he wanted it cooked. He called her over and asked if she wanted to know how he wanted it cooked. Ordered it medium. It was basically raw. He sent it back. He didn't eat it all which never happens so I'm guessing it wasn't very good. There were only 3 dessert choices and the one we all wanted was gone. Dessert was very average. We waited forever for our food. I would not go back there.
We went for the Easter brunch event and was pretty disappointed. The food took forever to get (and you only had less than 6 choices on the entire menu). When we got it it was luke warm like it had sat there a very long time. The bread was dry. I ordered a soup for an opener and asked if it was spicy and was told it wasn't, but it was and I couldn't eat it. Everything tasted like it wasn't fresh and had sat there. It was busy, but not any busier than other times we've gone and had great service. Our waitress didn't come around hardly at all and when we mentioned the soup really was spicy she just shrugged it off.
This is NOT the experience I've had here in the past. We drive 1.5 hours a couple times a year *just* to eat here so we were very surprised. I will still go again and order off the menu, but I won't do a special event like this again.
We had Easter brunch from their pre fixe menu. While the food was delicious and our server was very friendly and attentive, the service was incredibly slow. Over two hours for three courses. We had several requests regarding our orders and they were very accommodating. Just don't expect a quick meal while dining here!
This is one of my favorite restaurants. The food is phenomenal and the service is consistently great. Atmosphere is also top notch. I highly recommend this spot to any one looking for a bite or a drink.
Amazing food and service, the woman with me was wowed and so was I. Beautiful setting to have a lovely conversation and meal
Very nice atmosphere, great food and service. Was here 10 years ago, and it is still excellent.
Very dissapointed in food quality. Had the duck - specifically asked for low salt, and had noticeable sprinkles of coarse salt on the duck breast. Soup was average. Definitely not worth the price.
Wasn’t that busy by appearances but was pretty much Ignored by waitress, steak blue, had to have second second waiter bring dessert. He didn’t want to wait to light the flambé dessert until the person who ordered it got back to the table and when we insisted he did but lit it with his back to us and hiding most of it. We were there 3 hours but that was not all because we wanted to be, mostly because we were passed by. Was looking forward to it as over the years, colleagues have raved. Maybe we were just unlucky but will not join the MI contingent next year when they go. Thoroughly disappointing and will never be back.
It's cool that the restaurant is in Union Station. Great did and great customer service.
Had the tasting menu. Portions were large and the food amazing. Paired it with Wine as well. Amazing value for such amazing food!!
Great location and atmosphere. We had our daughters with us (7 and 10). They really enjoyed the meal, and I was pleasantly surprised that they had a children’s menu for them to choose from. Fabulous steaks and dessert!!
We did the 3 plate small plate special. The food was wonderful.
I was in town for a conference and this meal was phenomenal. The steak accoutrements and sides were special.
Wonderful, our server was fantastic and the desert was sooo good! It was great bread pudding with a fantastic liquor on fire! Just a really good meal for a special occasion!
NOT the place to go after work! If I could give them NO stars I would. We saw a happy hour menu online from Pierpont’s that Listed quite a few treats at reasonable prices. Five of us loaded up and went to Union Station for a “happy hour”. Our waiter was less than enthusiastic about us, or serving us and we had to ask his name after he had taken the drink order he was NOT wanting to have to deal with our cocktail orders and was only interested in our food order. Of course there isn’t really any “happy hour “ prices and we were told that we looked at the wrong menu or a third party menu when we should have gone to their website (we did). After three people ordering hamburgers one had the pear and almond salad with a side of asparagus, the food took quite a long time to come out and was sub par at best, burgers very dry and the salad had no dressing and the asparagus was yellow and brown. The manager made three table visits but never asked about our food or service and didn’t spend much time otherwise. The total bill for five people came to $200.00 with no more than two drinks each. WAY too expensive for an after work get together! Will not go back!!
We celebrated our daughter’s birthday at Pierpont’s for lunch. The only negative was the dry salami in my husband’s sandwich. Everything else was great. The homemade potato chips were tasty. My Cobb salad was delicious. Our daughter’s medium rare steak was more medium, but the flavor of the steak made up for it. We had the bread pudding for dessert , it was moist and delicious. Our server was excellent - very attentive without being intrusive. Will definitely go back!
We had a wonderful dining experience at Pierpont's at Union Station. The food was great, wine was good. It's a little more expensive than our norm, but worth it from time to time.
They fit the bill for any romantic lunch/dinner. Fantastic service, somewhat small entree selections but all extremely tempting. Go Sundays for half-price wine (bottle)!
