We will miss Piedmont, and are so sad to see it go. We hope the management and team from Piedmont thrive and maybe come back in a different form some day!
Excellent food. Great space. We are so sorry that Piedmont must leave their space and will no longer delight us with their flavors.
Such a shame that it has to close. Fingers crossed that it may find some other venue and open up again. That last meal we had Friday night was one of the best ever. Congratulations to the chef!
I am sorry that this restaurant is closing. We had an outstanding meal (appetizers thru dessert) and found each item excellent.
The meat and cheese board was a hit. We devoured it. Boxcarr cheeses are wonderful.
Our entrees were solid and good. I had fewer options than my spouse (mushroom allergy), but found something that really worked for me - the crusted pork chop.
We understand that the owners are being pushed out by a new owner for the entire space. That's not great. A good restaurant goes down.
Excellent vegetarian option.
Had a very good meal despite the Valentine's Day menu restrictions. Tuna tartare and salad were excellent, and ribeye was cooked just right. Deserts were delectable.
Only miss was the scallops lacked flavor, perhaps they were not super fresh.
Service was good and wine was delicious, but menu was slightly overpriced.
Awesome meal & amazing service. 3 course Valentine’s meal with wine pairings. Great pre-show dinner.
The food was very good, however, it was Valentine's Day and they only offered a pre fixe menu. When I booked the reservation, it did not mention that. I was looking forward to their standard menu, so was disappointed that we had to go with the pre fixe. I would go back.
Had a great valentines dinner with excellent service and great food
Piedmont is a half bubble off. We were seated at a table that wobbled so badly we asked to be repeated. Seems that someone could have complained before but nothing was done. It wasn't a match book fix but a 2x4. We ordered the wine special but they were out - at 7:15! When they called to confirm the reservation we were informed that the menu was prix fixed. That's fine but if that is not what we wanted it would have been too late to rebook somewhere else. The food was good but not worth the premium. There are better places to go in Durham.
Overall, we love the food and service at Piedmont and we eat there often.
The disadvantage of being seated at a table near the front door, on a cold and windy night was not pleasant. They need to remedy the entrance and cold air blasts that blew in every time the door opened! A curtain perhaps?
The food quality, which is usually very high was excellent except for the ribeye steak which was so fatty as to be inedible. The server did however offer to get a new steak but since we were 1/2 way done eating our entree we kindly refused. They did give a small credit on our bill which was appreciated. The rest of the meal, from appetizers to dessert was delicious. And the service was attentive and professional.
So, instead of 5*, a 4* this time because of the poor meat quality. However, we plan to return.
My husband and I were just in town for the weekend and went to Piedmont for a nice Saturday dinner out. While I would certainly consider going back because the food was outstanding, the kitchen and service were a mess. Maybe they were short staffed or someone didn't plan to be busy at 7pm on a Saturday night? Our server (who only had 4 or 5 tables), the hostess and other runners brought food and drinks to the wrong tables. The table next to us got their main course before their salad and I overheard the server say to another table that something would be comped. Everyone was really nice and our server apologized for the delays, but it was clear something was amiss in the kitchen.
Delicious dinner and wonderful service! Highly recommend.
The food was delicious and the waiter was very nice but there were several issues with the wrong food coming to the wrong tables and one thing we ordered as an appetizer didn’t come out until dessert. Again, great product and A for effort but still working out the kinks? I would go back.
changing menu items several times from delivery of menu to delivery of food is a bit much. heard 2-3 changes on more than several items in that time. we get fresh small batch fill in other hip words.. but need a little more stability in the menu. overall very good.
Piedmont is not as good as it once was. We have given it FOUR tries under its current ownership, and have been disappointed every time. The food, service, cocktails, and ambiance are all decidedly mediocre. It used to be innovative and lively. I'm sad to say we will not be returning.
If you do go, don't go on a cold night. The door opens directly into the dining room and so it is uncomfortably cold inside.
Great girls night!
Had a lovely date at Piedmont. Food was fantastic.
Very helpful and pleasant server who accommodated the specific food needs of one of the diners.
All together, a lovely experience!
Our dinners were delicious, but my husband said his was not very warm.
It was my Brother's birthday and we picked Piedmont. He enjoyed the food, the atmosphere, and the special attention. (LOVED the hanger steak!)Ironically, the only time we had to wait was for the check! But we will definitely come back!
Winter salad (classic nut & goat cheese salad) with squash was worth it. Got the scallops & lentils and it was the perfect amount of food and very tasty. Started with 6 delicious oysters and finished with the Apple Crostini. I liked everything I ate and didn't feel like I was in a food coma. Right sized portions and good local fare.
Great! Food was wonderful.
We met in Durham as a midpoint. The meal was fabulous—creative presentation of seasonal produce and seafood that was a taste delight. Save a bit of room for dessert! Parking was also easy.
Great vegan option. Hope they will add more.
We had a delicious dinner. We ordered the Triangle week special of an appetizer, entree, and dessert. My husband and I made different choices and it was all good excellent!! The goat cheesecake hade a gluten free crust of oats and honey.... quite delicious! Service was very good as well. Only complaint was how chilly it was in the restaurant.
Nice evening at Piedmont. We were fortunate to be there during restaurant week, so got the "tasting" menu. It was more than a taste - excellent selections, great variety, wonderful food. Really enjoyed our server, Jordan, who guided us through the menu options. She was spot-on with her recommendations and was a pleasure to work with. Wish all servers could be as personable as Jordan!
Thoroughly enjoyed our meal there during restaurant week. Service was excellent, ambience was nice, and food was outstanding. I would definitely go back.
I'd say it was quite mediocre, sadly. We tried the restaurant for the first time during restaurant week, hoping that the experience would be good enough to put the restaurant on our rotating list. Unfortunately it was not. It started with the first impression. The restaurant was relatively empty, and yet the hostess decided to seat us at the worst possible table, upstairs next to the back corner against the bussing area. We asked to move to a nicer table and with what felt like reluctance she moved us to a slightly better table, but definitely not one of the nicer empty tables.
Service was fine. Cocktails were fine.
Food was okay, except my dish (pork chops) was like sawdust. I asked to have it redone, as it was obvious. The waitress agreed. However the problem was I got my food as everyone else was finished. It somewhat ruined the experience. The other food was not good enough to recommend.
Last complaint was the wine glasses. The have relatively cheap glasses... hard to enjoy a nice wine (expensive $168 on their menu) with cheap wine glasses.
We enjoyed the best soup I have ever had, Curried Sweet Potato Bisque. We both said we could have stopped our meal with that. The winter salad was delicious too. We had the restaurant week menu. The entrees (chicken and pork chop) both were very good but the soup and salad starter was so flavorful, anything would be hard to follow that. Don't know what their regular menu is but we both thoroughly enjoyed our meal.
Great food, service, and vibe. Had the seasonal 3-course meal and during each course there were surprising flavors that exceeded our expectations.
Downtown Durham has lots of great restaurants but we'll push this one to the #1 spot.....actually I'd give them the #1 spot in NC. The grilled steak cauliflower, cornbread and sweet potato soup were all fantastic. My beer was late arriving but this might have been due to a miscommunication so I'll give the waiter a mulligan. He was super friendly and attentive otherwise. A 2 minute walk from the Marriott and Carolina Theater. Love the ambiance too. You'll have to book ahead though......we arrived at 5:30 pm and it was full by 6 pm.
We had the TRW special. We all thought it was really good, and one of us thought it was one of the best meals he had ever had. Too noisy though.
Wonderful evening with friends following a movie at The Carolina Theater!
I've been there twice and the food was great both times. Good, attentive service. The waitress was proactive enough to ask us if we were going to a show after and to ask what time we wanted to be out of the restaurant by. She made sure we were out in plenty of time to get to our show at DPAC. Easy and convenient parking as well.
Scallops were divine! Service was on point!
Excellent food and cocktails. Very nice atmosphere and service was excellent.
The food and service was top notch! First time there and we will be back. I had the scallops....delicious! The Bedlam vodka cranberry mile was a delicious take on a Moscow Mule.
Amazing from start to finish. Great service, great food, beautiful restaurant. Wish I lived in Durham just because of this restaurant.
We were disappointed in your choice of blended Scotch. Waiter did not understand our questions about Brands. We were told the bartender would come to our table, however that did not happen. The burger was very dry. Scallops were cooked perfectly and the pork chop was outstanding. Disappointed to hear the oysters were coming from the Chesapeake and not Carolina shores.
