A really interesting menu with faultless service. Well done
Outstanding restaurant, great experience, delicious and creative food, highly recommended.
This was our fifth time at pidgin. It continues to be a delight every time.
Have eaten at Pidgin before but not for a couple of years. Still excellent the food is innovative and the service excellent. We had one diner in our party gluten intolerant and I mentioned this in my booking confirmation and she had several adjustments to the menu all planned into her meal to take account of this. No discussions on the night to disrupt what was my wife birthday party. We had a great evening.
Only one word describes this place......wow!! Amazingly tasty food, perfectly matched wine and a relaxed atmosphere.
It is the second time I am going to Pidgin. First time, I was extremely impressed by the quality and creativity of the menu. In fact, that is why I went back a couple of months later. Unfortunately the second experience was way less impressive. Food and menu was by no means bad, but nothing compared to the first visit. It is therefore difficult for me to say what the standard is. My take away is that quality varies, which makes it a good but not outstanding restaurant. One thing that did shock all of us at the table last time I went, was the very abrupt way they asked us to leave at the end of the dinner. It was a Saturday evening and it was indeed busy, but they basically brought our coats together with the bill and told us to leave asap. It really felt like they were kicking us out without any reason for it, we had been there for 2.5 hours and were about to leave anyway. It ended the whole experience on a negative note and left a bad taste in my mouth
Just brilliant, always a fantastic experience. Lucky us for having such a restaurant so close.
Avoid as pretentious and expensive for what they offer
Fantastic tasting menu and wine pairing with friendly and efficient service in an intimate neighborhood restaurant.
Incredible food and wine and a wonderful atmosphere - this place is a gem. My partner and I are both vegetarian and the chefs expertly adapted the tasting menu for us so that we didn't feel we were missing out compared to the carnivores in the room. One of the desserts - with flavours of gooseberry and coffee - was the best I have ever eaten! The home-made limoncello with the bill was also a lovely touch. Will definitely be back here.
This is the second time I've visited (first time was a decent experience with dishes that work well together).
This time however, was a total disappointment comparing to my visit a year ago...
Waiter keeps forgetting what the dish ingredients are when introducing. First dish with the mushrooms and shirachj mayo was fried so oily so all I could taste was the the batter and the oil...
The pork dish with cabbage and fried potatoes was a nightmare. It wasn't pork, it was pure pig fat... couldn't bring myself to finish it at all.
I was sitting close to the kitchen and this bright adjustable kitchen light keeps shining onto our table every now and then and ruins the ambient lighting...
They also handed our jacket and bags to another customer after their meal...
It was pricey for the food that they served so I don't think there will be a next time.
This was the best dinner I have had in a very long time. We had such a lovely evening.
Despite high expectations, food was not that exceptional. It took a while for some dishes to come out. They also didn’t offer us to pick our seating whilst they did for other customers who walked in after us.
We’re so pleased we discovered this delicious little restaurant, tucked away in a side street of Hackney. The tasting menu was exquisite with so much variation. Each course was exciting and different to the last. The waiters really described everything so well and considering the menu and pairing wines change every week they did an incredible job.
Only criticism was they only had a table at 9.30 so as we were the last in there they didn’t offer coffee or the cheese course. Maybe they shouldn’t take late bookings if they can’t finish serving the meal.
Also we wanted to contact the restaurant before we came and they do not pick up their phones which apparently should be manned between 4-6pm.
Apart from this we would definitely go back again and again. Such great food and atmosphere. Well done Pidgin.
Still a really great little restaurant despite losing its star. Nice laid back atmosphere. Service was attentive without going overboard. Good food and great value.
Food was good but lighting was really dim for taking pictures and quite cramp
Outstanding experience! Will have to go back soon.
A very pleasent dining experience altogether
My second visit, and another excellent, inventive menu. A friendly, relaxed venue with great service.
Great concept. And half the time it delivers inventive cooking successfully. The Celeriac dish early in the lineup was best. Two Chicken dishes were very good. Desserts were excellent except for the beef-fat cube. Looking forward to trying a new menu there in my next visit.
Birthday spot fantastic experience once again
I don't usually take the time to write a review, but we had such a great experience that Pidgin deserves nothing but kudos - for everything. We found them when looking for a place to dine before an early concert nearby. The timing was tight, but the staff served us their full tasting menu, efficiently but not hurriedly paced, and got us out the door in time! Dishes were beautifully presented, and absolutely delicious. Simply our best meal of our month in the UK! What a gem!
Amazing food, wines were very good and came out feeling extremely satisfied. They catered to last minute additions to allergies and food preferences very well.
Wonderful and extremely imaginative flavour combinations with a small but excellent wine list. Some dishes did not really come off either because they tried a bit too hard or were too clever for their own good - beef dripping fudge anyone? - but overall a really good meal. Service was good but unremarkable.
Great interesting food however service made you felt you were being rushed through your meal.
Everything was superb. Will be going back.
A great deal of attention and care given to the food over several courses but I'm afraid I was underwhelmed with the flavours. (the highlight was the butter served with the bread which were both delicious) Maybe its just my palette but nothing else really got my taste buds going.
The service was efficient but not very friendly and I have to say the bathroom broken seat wasn't what I would expect from a restaurant with these prices. Sorry for the bad review I really do appreciate the care gone into the prep of the food but I want to be honest.
This is a really special dining experience. It was so enjoyable from beginning to end - the food was outstanding as was the service, wine pairing and ambiance. I recommend for a special celebration or an intimate evening with friends.
Amazing food and wine experience. We did the wine pairing and it was excellent. It's definitely a pricey evening but if you're ready to spend money it's definitely worth it.
Main for beef a little tough but dessert possibly best I have ever had.
For us, Pidgin has no culinary equals in East London. It’s simply in a class of its own. We have been there many times now and it never ceases to amaze and delight us.
One of my favourite London restaurants, recommend for a special occasion
Pidgin was without doubt one of the best meals we've ever had. We went there for our 6 year anniversary and it did not disappoint. Every course of the tasting menu was beautiful and the wine was delicious. A small and intimate setting, the waiting staff were all great too. Cannot recommend this place highly enough and will definitely be returning to see what else they come up with.
Really relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff who are accommodating of allergies etc.
Never felt like they were getting in the way but always on hand quickly to clear plates and answer questions etc.
Food was incredible - incredible value for money as it's not often you get to eat a fine dining set menu for such good price.
Excellent food with matched drinks. A lovely slightly extravagant treat.
Top top food. The menu was exquisite, wine tremendous and ambience perfect balance of intimate and social. The only criticism would be that we left still a little hungry even with the additional cheese course. But probably because the food was so immense we just wanted more.
Exceptional food. Great value. Nice ambiance. Will be returning.
Fab menu, lovely staff with good wine list. Food was great value for money and love the idea of a set menu that changes weekly. Lovely chilled place for a relaxed long and indulgent Saturday lunch
The food was absolutely delicious with an amazing mixture of flavours. The service was friendly and very informative. Fine dining in a relaxed and chilled environment. Thoroughly recommended, we will be back!
Overall all the dishes were great, interesting flavour combinations and nice presentation. We were just a bit surprised that most dishes on this particular weeks' tasting menu consisted of lamb (even the dessert which we didn't even touch :( - it was really strange to have a lamb fudge!), I wish it was a bit more varied. Also, although the padron peppers dish was tasty there was no information provided that it will burn your mouth and lips, the peppers were so so hot that their taste overwhelmed everything else there was on the dish (pity), we only recovered after 2 glassed of water or maybe more.
The wine selection was also good.
As the menu changed weekly, I would be interested to come back and try something new.
