The Pickle Barrel began with a mission. We believed that amazing dining experiences didn’t need to be elitist, so we began a restaurant that combined ‘quality’ with ‘incredible value’. Our origins were humble; there were six of us working hard to open an 85-seat deli on Leslie Street in Toronto. Still, our vision captured people’s attention and, when our doors opened in 1971, there was already a line up outside.
Today we have restaurants across Greater Toronto, our menu has 300 items and we have over 1,000 employees. One thing that hasn’t changed though is our mission. We still have many of our original customers too (we just have a lot more to keep them company).

Let’s just say, it’s better to go hungry than waste your time coming to this location.

Service - horrible.

It’s time to give up on Cara making the Pickle Barrel great again. Shutter the place and start over with a new restaurant.

Our waiter was terrible. The moment he stood at our table he showed attitude. Then, he was not helpful finding what I wanted on the menu. He took my bf's fork away and brought back a dirty one, never cleared my salad plate, never topped up our water, never asked if everything was alright, took away my napkin and said he would bring another one which he never did. Every time I tried to flag him over, he glanced over and walked away. He needs to be fired or you will lose not only our business but everyone we know. He is one of the worst waiters I have come across and I eat out every day! I know exactly what they are supposed to do and he sucks at it big time. He ruined our first visit there. I will only go to the Yonge/Eglinton location from here on.

We arrived first and were waiting for our friends to join us. They texted us to inform us they would be late. Normally, SOMEONE asks you if you would like a drink while you wait -water, coffee, anything! After 20 minutes, I flagged down someone for 1 water and 1 diet Coke. When our friends arrived, they were asked if they wanted something to drink. They both said "water". The server returned with 1 water. "Oh, you BOTH wanted water!"
As our order was taken? I presented the server with a coupon for a free appetizer. No problem. The food was served promptly and was delicious. I was asked if I wanted another diet Coke. I said yes. It was delivered. When we were finished our entrees and the plates were cleared, the waters were refilled and I was again asked if I wanted another diet Coke. I said yes. Then the bills arrived. The price of the appetizer was added to my bill but not subtracted. My friend across the table indicated that the price had been taken off HIS bill! I noted that I was charged $2.99 three times. The server then informed me that there are no free re-fills on soft drinks. Would have been nice to know that. In the interest of "good customer relations", one was deleted from the bill. Food was great. Service was incompetent.

This location is a favourite of my 82 y.o. aunt a long term resident of Willowdale. This is the third time around the time of my aunt's birthday that my wifw and I and my brother and partner will come to mark the occasion and catch up. The restaurant is clean in good repair and the food offerings are consistently good and reasonably priced. We are at St. Clair E/Midland worth the drive get my aunt from her retirement residence in Richmond Hill. See you next year!

I always enjoy the Pickle Barrel - all of the locations. I often go for breakfast or less often lunch. Their Early Bird breakfast is a favorite.

This was the first time i used opentable for a reservations. Seems simple it was. But it was pointless to use it. The restaurant had no idea what i was talking about when i arrived and claimed i had a reservation. The place wasn't busy so it wasn't an issue. but still what use is opentable if i can make a reservation, and they know nothing about it??

The restaurant had no record of the open table reservation we made.

We were early in the day, so they found us a seat ok, but that wasn't a good start. Waitress didn't know the menu, or the beer selection, forgot to bring us our beers (had to ask twice), messed up the bills (there were only 6 of us - wasn't a big group), and overall was not very friendly service to us. I like pickle barrels in general, maybe we caught them on a bad day at this location. Food was good though.

It was our anniversary and first time at pickle barrel. Food was ok but service was pathetic.. everything was slow. Servers seem to be not bothered. No smiles on anyone face. I will not recommend the one at Center point mall.

It was dirty on the floor and the tables. We left the restaurant. I am not usually the type of the person but last Saturday night at 9:00 pm, my friend, my mother and I decided to change tables because the floor was so dirty. After going to another table, my friend noticed that food was stuck on the table. Luckily for Pickle Barrel that Inspectors did not come to the city that night - a bad rating, they definitely would have given. The interesting part was that the hosts and waiters did not seem that busy as there were only 3 or 4 tables that had full. Also, the hostess who greeted us at the front desk, had food stains on her shirt. Not very reflective. When we mentioned that we were not served yet - after 10 or 15 minutes, the host said that we need to speak out because the waiters cannot see us. Is it not the obligation of the waiters to know when they have new customers?

I booked my reservation on line and indicated it was a birthday, asking that a sample dessert be brought to the table. My husband saw the Birthday indicated in the reservation at the front desk. It was supposed to be a nice addition to our celebration and never occurred. I asked the server quietly to "read the note at the front desk" .. he came back and announced he didn't know what I was talking about. By that time, half my party had to leave and it wasn't worth trying to make it happen. That was disappointing. You also need to review the ceiling lighting. The light was not enhancing our seating, but was focussed right in the eyes of those sitting at the back of the larger booth. Thank you for the opportunity to give you feedback.

When I made the reservations, I asked for a quiet table overlooking the mall area because one of the members of our party has a hearing problem. When we arrived, we were told that we could not have that area after all because it was closed. After arguing with the hostess, she said that she would ask your manager, and, only then were we given the table that I had requested in my reservation.

Pickle Barrel has an extensive menu that can have you debating over numerous items before making a decision. However, I think we found that for the price I think they need to ensure the value is apparent. For instance, my Migras Rancheros was supposed to come on a field tortilla. However, the waitress mentioned it would be omelette style and asked it that was ok. In hindsight, it really wasn't an adequate substitution. The avocado toast was also a disappointment as there wasn't a lot of avocado on the serving.

Everything was good, as usual. My only feedback is that this OpenTable reservation we made online got missed! The main host was away and the fill-in host hadn't checked the online reservations. We were a group of 8 and luckily they could accommodate us anyway.

It took a long time to get seated ... not because it was busy ... but no one at the front to seat us. We had nachos to share as appetizer ... and it was a very generous portion. But the chips seemed to be a bit stale. However, the servers were excellent ... and the atmosphere was very nice. Very reasonable prices. I would go there again.

Great server, good food. An overall very positive experience.

Staff had no clue what OpenTable is - I expect to get a no show notice in a few days - I purposely kept my bill to prove I was there.

Horrible service and we waited 60 mins for my daughters chocolate pancake and it ended up with two chocolate chips in it. Service was horrible. Had three kids and we waited 45 mins for their food and 60 for my daughters after we complained. Manager was nice and apologized but I will not go back there ever again

Haven't been to the Pickle Barrel in a long, long, time, so thought I would give it a try. They still have the basic deli sandwiches, which are pretty good. A nice place to sit down and not have to spend too much, but still able to have a good meal. Won't wait so long next time.
