Piccolo Buco Roma - set mere steps from Rome's famed Trevi Fountain - is where Cooper's Hawk Founder, Tim McEnery, first discovered Chef Luca Issa and his wonderful pizza. The ingredients were deceptively simple: creamy, indulgent mozzarella mingled with a bright and bold tomato sauce. Nice place to grab a quick bite to eat. I prefer Cooper’s hawk over this place though.

My date and I were there on Saturday, May 3rd around 4:30 for our reservation. Even though the restaurant was 1/4 full, it still took around 10 minutes to get seated. We ordered two pizzas and the arancini for an appetizer. The arancini were like warm at best, and while flavorful, barely warm. My nduja pizza came out black around the outside. I know there should be some char, but this was black. The olives on it were burnt and while I mentioned it to our server, he insisted that’s how it should be. I typically enjoy piccolo Bucco and have recommended many of my friends there, but this was a subpar experience for a normally excellent restaurant. I will definitely look elsewhere in oakbrook next time I am in the area.

Everything was delish and came early enough that it was pleasantly quiet even with my two year old.
