Such an intimate ambiance there, the service and food were absolutely perfect unfortunately they did not have the cheese wheel available on my visit. We will definitely be dining there again

We had Caprese side as a starter - it was more tomatoes with a small amount of mozzarella and a single small basil leaf. It came with no balsamic vinegar and there wasn’t anyone around to ask for some. Overall the server was friendly, polite and engaging but the service was slow considering the restaurant wasn’t that busy. Which based on our previous experience was a little disappointing.
    Piccolino - BirminghamResponded on June 24, 2025
Hello Debra, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We're truly sorry to hear that your recent visit didn’t meet your expectations, especially after a more positive previous experience. We apologize for the Caprese starter not being up to standard, and for the lack of balsamic vinegar and timely service. Your comments help us identify where we need to improve, and we’ve shared your feedback with our kitchen and service team to ensure more attention to detail going forward. We’re glad to hear that you found our server friendly and polite, and we genuinely hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back and provide you with the high-quality experience we strive for every day. Kind Regards Piccolino Birmingham

We’ve been visiting this Piccolino a few times a year, pretty much since it opened. We’ll never be returning. I chose Burrata con Pesto (£14)… a pretty small ball of burrata that was just mozzarella. There was no oozing center. It was a ball of cheese. For this price they should be getting it right. Main courses… a small carbonara (£18.50) arrived first and clearly had been sat under a heat lamp for awhile and had formed a husk. It’s tasted of nothing. The guanciale was tough and chewy and the whole dish tasted underseasoned. My father ordered the Agnello Arrosto (£24).He received a plate of peas with four or five small chunks of lamb (not cooked how he’d asked). The lamb was very tough and didn’t taste of lamb. It did however taste of lemon which wasn’t even mentioned on the menu. For dessert we liked the sound of the Dolci Con Amici sharing option (£17.50) so we ordered a couple to share. BIG mistake. I can only assume this was leftover from yesterday. There’s literally zero excuse for this to be so inedible. Mini cannoli - soggy, chewy and not very pleasant. Bomboloni - Mine was tough and clearly stale but was sodden with oil. Everyone else’s was more like a dry bread roll with jam in the middle. Rum baba - soggy so it was hard to tell if it was stale but it didn’t taste of rum. Sfogliatella - abysmal, my parents couldn’t get their teeth through it… and tasted weirdly medicinal. The menu describes it as “light crisp pastry”. I don’t think this think would ever have been light but it might have been crisp five days ago. Not today. That was the final nail in the coffin. I complained and we didn’t pay for the dessert. We paid for everything else. £322 for Sunday lunch for four including drinks. I’ve had better food at a cheap pub chain. This experience was utterly awful. We left feeling cheated. This restaurant does not deserve to remain open if this is what they consider acceptable. Our decades long relationship with Piccolino is over.

The food for my wife was cold. It was taken away and the fresh serving was also cold.
    Piccolino - BirminghamResponded on June 20, 2025
Hello Ian, We're very sorry to hear about your experience and especially that your wife's meal was served cold — not once, but twice. That’s certainly not the standard we aim to uphold, and we understand how disappointing that must have been. Please accept our sincere apologies. We've addressed this with our kitchen team to ensure extra care is taken so all dishes are served at the proper temperature going forward. We truly appreciate your feedback, as it helps us improve. If you're willing, we'd love the opportunity to make it up to you on your next visit — please feel free to contact us directly so we can ensure a better experience. Kind Regards, Piccolino Birmingham
