Excellent service and very good food. Menu variety was a bit more limited than we recalled in earlier iterations of this restaurant and its somewhat ratty presentation (the menu itself) was more suited to a diner than an upper-level eatery. Wine selection by the glass was very good. Definitely worth another visit.
You can always count on the Sunday brunch and dinner buffet to be great! Excellent service and a terrific atmosphere. A real gem in Wilmington’s Trolley Square area. Dan, the owner is almost always there, and is as welcoming as his fantastic staff.
It was Mother's Day and understood it would be busy but we waited 20 minutes for our server to acknowledge us..I went up to the hostess after waiting 15 minutes and they still didn't come right away. Didn't know it was a buffet that night. The hot food was cold and dried out . I love this restaurant but was extremely disappointed this night. $30 per person for bad service and cold food is not acceptable...there was a lot of empty tables so that made it more frustrating.
We originally went on a Saturday several months ago before 5pm but were not aware that the restaurant was not open for lunch on Saturdays. Staff was very kind, apologetic and invited us to return.
I have to admit that it was well worth the wait. The restaurant was recommended by a friend and received great reviews on Yelp and other sites. The restaurant was busy (good) and waitress was scrambling between a large number of indoor and outdoor diners. She was very apologetic but our wait time was not really that bad. Her service was cordial and attentive. The food was excellent and served at a good temperature and was well presented. Our teenage son is a vegetarian and enjoyed one of several pasta options. The only regret was not saving room for desert. We were approached by panhandlers in the parking lot on arrival, which made us a little uneasy at first, but they were not obnoxious.
Convenient location for a business lunch. Quiet atmosphere facilitated conversation.
Adequate assortment of luncheon food, willing to do minor modifications to specified options.
Attentive but not obtrusive service
We came for our anniversary since we had our first dinner date at Toscana and we' weren't disappointed. The food was great. Our server was friendly and pleasant although he did seem to forget about us for a while after bringing us the menus. After he took our order everything went smoothly. There was a glitch with the bill which he quickly and cheerfully corrected. I got the impression he may have been relatively new to the job. With his great smile and friendly attitude he'll be terrific once he learns the routine.
Was told the kitchen closed before my reservation; the servers seemed clueless.
As always our experience at Piccolina Toscana was great. The food was exceptional, the service was attentive, but not to the point of being annoying and the ambiance was relaxed and fun. We can always count on a good time and good food when we stop in.
First time eating there on a Sunday and didn’t know that there was a limited menu with a buffet. Breadsticks seemed old, not warm, and the oil had no flavor. The buffet was just ok. The pasta was way too soft from sitting in the pans. The circle tables need to be updated, they are old and very worn out. I didn’t sit outside but there is an option and I would t recommend sitting outside. The seats looked very uncomfortable. I personally would not recommend eating here but they have a fun bar area with a TV for sports. Many beer selections and plenty of seating. Our waiter was very nice.
City Restaurant Week. Great choices, delicious food, pleasant server (Joe). Friends didn't have the CRW menu and enjoyed what they had, as well. Great visit.
We have been to Toscana many times but the food was really incredible this time. There wasn’t a dish we didn’t love
They did not have my reservation when I arrived, but welcomed me anyway; Open Table had reminded me of the reservationl
Our server seemed to be new and lunch took longer than anticipated. We told him we needed to return to work so it might be helpful to let him know if a table says that to bring the courses a closer together.
Great food and service. Only issue: The booths are worn and need to be replaced. Makes me wonder what else isn’t maintained. Guys- invest a few bucks and get this fixed
Our service was outstanding from a young man named Scott. He was pleasantly attentive without being intrusive. My friends were very happy with the food they selected. I have some difficulty with the menu selection. I enjoy the salads for lunch but want some thing warm that isn't a lot of pasta or bread - pizza - for dinner but the entres are too much. We did all enjoy a warmed avacado/garlic and toast starter.
When we got there we were informed there would be a party of 20 teen age girls dining near us. It must have been a very special occasion as of them wore dresses and were on their best behavior. it was gratifying to see these young girls interacting with each other. AND THERE WERE NO PHONES. Our meal was delicious; Try the Boulevardier (sp) cocktail. It went well with the grilled avocado and Ravioli alla Brasata.
Made a reservation for 2 Friday evening - early dinner since we were heading to Philly for a show. The place wasn’t crowded except for a very large party of 10-13 year old girls whose parents were seated across the dining room and in the bar area.
We, a party of 2, were sat at a table for 4 right next to this table of 20+ 10-13 year old girls who were constantly screaming, getting up to run to the bathroom in groups, and then their parents were coming over periodically to grab slices of pizza and then walk away. In the process my table was completely surrounded by this party. I was even hit in the head by one of the parents as they carelessly walked by.
I understand teenage girls behavior because I was once a teenage girl more than 20 years ago but what I don’t understand, is why in a fairly empty restaurant, would the host think it’s a smart idea to sit us right next to them? There were countless other tables for 2 open across the room where the noise and commotion would have been less in my face or at my table!
Dinner conversation was difficult as it was extremely loud and the “ambience” was distracting at best. My guest and I laughed at the situation and ate our mediocre meals. We got Caprese as an appetizer to share: it is soaked in pesto to the point where the mozzarella was unrecognizable and our two tomatoes were drowning victims themselves. I found them wilted at the bottom of the plate. Short rib itself was tasty but pasta underneath was bland. I got the scallop special which was advertised as being served “scampi style” over pappardelle with tomatoes and asparagus. The scampi was creamier than I expected and the dish was a bit too salty for my liking but otherwise fair.
Wine was the best part of the meal... as was the peace and calm I experienced when we walked out of the restaurant because it was just way too loud in there.
So disappointing as this is a place where I once had my bridal shower and thought so highly of in the past.
Great night with great food and wine. Ambience is high energy
We had an early very light dinner on a Saturday night before a show. The wine selection by the glass and bottle is very good. Salads were crisp and fresh, a meal sized portion, served with chicken. Vegetable stuffed pasta with shaved brussel sprouts and a light olive oil sauce was excellent.
Service was very good but slowed as the restaurant filled up. Not a problem unless you have to be somewhere.
Three friends went for a birthday dinner. The food was great. The waitstaff was personable, friendly and informative. Food came quickly. We stayed for three hours talking and no one seemed to mind. This is a great, special occasion restaurant with delicious food and desserts.
The restaurant has a set limited menu, I doubt that it varies much. We asked about specials but they did not have any at least this evening and it was a Saturday. Entrees chosen were very good and portions were very good, as well as were the appetizers. Excellent Italian wine list, adequate for California. Food and wine pricing reasonable.
Monday night publicized as “1/2 price burgers night”. Menus lists four different burgers under the caption: “1/2 price burgers on Monday”.
Each of us ordered one of the burgers. When the bill came, one was charged at half rate, the other at full rate. When questioned, the server explained that only two of the listed four burgers are 1/2 price. “I keep telling them that we have to make that clearer on the menu.” she said. Manager agreed “...just this one time to discount the full price burger” and admitted that it is confusing. Time to reprint the menu or honor the 1/2 price offer as advertised.
Food was ok. Fruit flies were flying around us the entire dinner. The chairs were so dirty I didn’t want to sit on them. Overall the place looked old and rundown, in need of a deep cleaning
I met friends here for lunch. Hadn't been here in a very long time. The ambiance and service were great but the food was mediocre. I had the Toscana pannini which is roast veal with fontina cheese, arugula and grilled red onion. It came with a combo of french fries and sweet potato fries. The pannani was totally bland. The fries were okay. No one in our party was particularly excited about the food and we all ordered different dishes.
Service was very good and attentive throughout the night. The appetizers we had were very nice (polpo and the beet salad from the small plate section). The entree's were very well prepared too (trout and the seafood/fettuccini special). Will be back.
Good Italian food, group friendly - have pizza for kids. A little noisy, but service was great.
Great butternut squash pasta dish. Nice red wine selection. Rick provided friendly service.
Megan was an outstanding waiter. She answered food questions with skill. Great dinner with friends!
I made reservations but didn't need them because for some reason the lunch crowd was light last Friday. The service was terrific, the atmosphere was perfect for my business lunch and the food was fantastic! I had a salad with balsamic on the side which was delicious and the butternut squash ravioli were amazing! Highly recommend the whole experience of Toscana!
It was the worse meal we have had in a longtime. I called the restaurant and very politely told the hostess what had happened , give her the details , my name and my phone number and she said she would give the message to the manager, Dan. I have yet to hear from him. So it will be the very last time we go to that restaurant and we will make sure that we share it with all of our friends about our horrible dining experience.
Our circular Booth's seating was frayed and the cover was peeling off. This is twice that we've been there in the last month. Still not fixed.
Stopped in for Valentine’s Day. We both had a pasta meal. Food was well presented and delicious. Noise level was better than average, so we could talk and enjoy dinner.
So my review should be taken with a grain of salt... it was Valentines and maybe the crowd was part of the issue. My salad was missing elements as described. The main course was strangely constructed. The dessert was not well thought out. I have always been a fan of this place and Dan, but this was not a great experience.
It was a great meal but they really need to update the decor. The leather on the booth is cracked and dry rotted and for a fine dinning meal I don't want to have to sit on old cracked leather
Great time. Joe as always is a fantastic waiter.
Service was very poor. Brunch entrees have changed. Smoked salmon removed from buffet. Very disappointed.
Sunday brunch is an amazing value and food is excellent
Outstanding meal , wine accompaniment, ambiance and service
Solid Italian food with a diverse menu. The service was friendly and capable. The seat in the booth we were in was peeling, but still comfortable. They have a pretty good wine list.
