Picco Ratings and Reviews
First I want to say it truly is a beautiful place. Loved the inside and the outside appearance. We were seated by the door. It took about 10 minutes to get a waiter and when we did he said he would be with us in a minute. That took another 5 minutes. We had 6:15 reservations and were 1 of 3 tables in the restaurant. So being overly busy was not an excuse. Nothing I hate more than sitting there waiting for service while people that came after us got a waitress right away. When sitting by the door you get the cigarette smoke wafting in from the smokers directly outside the front door. Before we asked to move we ordered our food. They did accommodate our wishes and put us at a table in the back. From start to finish we saw our waiter one more time when he asked us if we wanted desert which we said no to and then he brought us our check. We had to order drinks from the bus boy. Now the food. Our octopus appetizer was very good. Hats off for that. Great job. My zupa de pesce was awful. Very little seafood And what was there was stone cold. My wife ordered the rack of lamb. Cooked well but the "sauce" it came with was as she describe "disgusting". She separated as much as she could of the lamb from the sauce and ate what she could.
I don't believe I would ever go back to give it another try. If either the food or the service were bad then maybe. But a bad waiter and bad food not a chance.
Went for Sunday Brunch. At $24.95, not too expensive for the area, but the service was awful. There were two waiters for 5 tables and we had to ask for water, drinks and coffee (which was cold). Brunch was a buffet, the waiters should have been completely on top of beverages.
We went here for our anniversary and were very happy with everything! We ate outside and had a nice appetizer of chicken dumplings. They have a nice wine selection and full bar. I had one of the specials which was pork medallions, eggplant, cheese melted -- it was SO good I told the waitress they should make this a regular item. A good selection of desserts and I must say the prices for everything are reasonable for a higher end place. Valet parking was efficient. It was quite empty when we went (around 6pm on a weeknight) -- we prefer a little more activity but maybe it is more of a weekend/late evening place. But for our purpose it was fine and the rooftop area looks like a great option as well.
My lady and I went for several reasons. First, we both were there before, when it was called “The Restaurant” and we wanted to see what changed. Second, we wanted to include dancing to live music along with our meal. We discovered the ambiance is very good and the dance floor is spacious. They also have a valet service. I understand there is also a rooftop terrace.
We shared the appetizers, Mozzarella Caprese (Fresh Mozzarella, beefsteak tomatoes served with roasted red peppers) and also, the Zuppa di Mussels (Spicy marinara sauce, cherry tomatoes). Our entrees were Grilled Chicken Pillard (Grilled Chicken Breast Served over a Bed of Sautéed Spinach). We substituted Sautéed Broccoli Rabe for the spinach. The 2nd entrée was Cappellini with fresh crab meat Serafino (Jumbo lump crab meat, light tomato sauce) Note: This is a very tasty dish, however, they could’ve been more generous with the crab meat. For dessert, we enjoyed the NY style Cheesecake, washed down with a Cappuccino and some Frangelico.
The service was adequate, but our server was a bit bland and not very proactive. By the way, they also offer an extensive deli menu, including pizzas for dining in or taking out.
Overall, I would absolutely, recommend "the Picco Tavern" for family, friends and occasions. It is a wonderful venue for an evening out. The live entertainment is definitely, a welcomed bonus.
Picco Tavern has come a long way from it's initial opening and is far superior to it's predecessor called The Restaurant. Owner, Michael Monaco is ever present and hovers over the large facility ensuring great service. The food here is better than average & priced reasonably as is the wine list. Two bars, free valet parking, entertainment & dancing most nights makes this a great place to go for a fun evening.
The waitstaff was attentive and the food was delicicious. We live close by so enjoy that we have a great restaurant within walking distance. Our four year old son was with us and danced to the live music. There was a man singing oldies songs and he would also play songs during breaks-and took requests. Overall an excellent time.
This is one of our favorite restaurants but because they lost our reservations, it turned out to be one of our worst dining experiences ever. We made confirmed reservations through Open Table two weeks in advance for this special occasion but when we got there for our 6pm time, the Picco receptionist could find no such reservation. We were held up at the receptionist for over twenty minutes while she tried to trace down the reservation. She could not. She said the restaurant was sold out for the evening but had an undesirable table available for such incidents. Angered and embarrassed, nothing for the rest of the evening seemed to go right. To add insult to injury, the following day Open Table sent me an email admonishing me for not showing up. Unbelievable. Maybe Open Table should be given one star for not assuring the reservation was actually recorded by the restaurant.
We or in previous incarnations of the place. We come because some friends of ours perform there regularly. Food has improved but it is not great. Nice selection of pizzas and other comfort food.
Our waitress was great and went out of her way to make sure everything was done right. We really appreciated it. Free valet parking. Two bars.
This was my third visit here. First with my wife, then we took another couple, and most recently just me and a buddy to have a few drinks and dinner, and we have not been disappointed once. All raved about the food, which made me feel good about recommending the restaurant. Tonight I had an appetizer listed as Spanish Octopus, and it was outstanding. Although it was on the Specials menu, I hope I can get it again, and soon. The dish had many large chunks of octopus and was well worth the price, which I did not think was expensive. For an entree I had the Mixed Grill, which I think was also a Special. It was outstanding, and again not expensive for what you got on your plate. It had a tender filet mignon, done perfectly, chicken, a lamb chop, and sausage, served over broccoli rabe. Delicious. Hats off to the Chef.
Another friend joined us at our table after dinner and we listened to the DJ. Most of the patrons were still gathered at the bar areas (there are two bars, nice) and were more into chatting or watching sports on the TV's, but I enjoyed the music and when the DJ heard me singing along to a Frank Sinatra song (we we seated next to him....the DJ, not Sinatra), he asked me if I wanted to get up and sing another one. So I did, along with another song by Billy Joel. So to me, it not only was a great night for dinner........it was a lot of fun, too.
I remember going to Picco Lissimo in Fort Lee, which was a restaurant owned by the owner of Picco Tavern, Michael. I understand he had been out of the restaurant business for a long time, but I for one am glad he's back. And he hasn't missed a beat. The food was great, and I would recommend this place to all my friends.
Good was good but nothing to ooh and aah over. Ordered a Caesar salad and the lettuce was completely wilted, no excuse for that. My daughter had the pork chop and it was very good. My husband had a pasta which was good and I had a fish which was good but nothing special and not worth the price. This restaurant bills itself as a seafood restaurant and it is definitely not especially when you have some shrimp, clams, mussels and 1 or 2 other fish dishes on the menu. Service was good, but the place was fairly empty at the time we went there. They also try to seat us right next to the kitchen door, and when the restaurant is empty and we had a reservation there is no excuse for that.
the restaurant was advertised as a seafood Italian restaurant, I have to disagree, only seafood was salmon, clams and mussels. I don't consider this emphasis on seafood. But the place was a total scene, the people watching was the best part They had a jazz band and a lot of 70+ dressed up seniors were there to dance, they were very good and entertaining to watch.
spoke with the owner, Michael Monaco, he was very pleasant, a bit full of himself, but wants to add more entertainment, which I think a very good idea.
I had the eggplant Parm, it was very good but portion a bit small. I would go back
