About Piccino

When we opened the doors of our tiny restaurant in December 2006, our goal was to make Piccino as welcoming as the home of a close friend, our food as simple and beautifully executed as possible. We're honored that Piccino became a thriving hub of the community. In May of 2011, we moved from our original space into a new home (dubbed The Yellow Building) on the corner of 22nd & Minnesota Streets.

Our menu still features the classic and seasonally driven thin-crust pizzas and polpette Piccino is known for; our salads and soups use the finest organic produce sourced directly from small local farms. Piccino's menu has expanded to include more small starter plates, house-made pastas, contorni (vegetable sides), and special entrees of meat, fish, or poultry. Seasonal desserts and expertly made coffee complete our daily offerings.

We chose this place to celebrate the life of a dear friend who died very recently. It was perfect; the server ensured we had everything we needed. She even was able to suggest options that allowed us to choose food and drink we definitely enjoyed.

Overall a very pleasant experience. Mushroom pizza was delicious, two pasta dishes were great(Chiocciole and Strozzapreti), seared octopus was tender and delicious too, although on a small side..In mains-sea bass was delicious. Desserts were actually a big disappointment for me. It would be so nice to finish with a great dolce! We had a roasted pear with some crumble&ice cream and second one was beignets. The pear was so uninspiring..the scoop of ice cream was a best part of it..and the price $18 was not justified at all. Beignets-a spoon of sauce that came with 5 beignetts tasted good, but overall-nothing to write about..Maybe we picked the wrong ones! Although both were recommended by the hostess/waiter. The wine selection is always very good and reliable there.

Consistently excellent food. Family visiting from other major cities are often blown away.
Sadly, service this time was subpar (and unusual for Piccino).
Other, veteran servers appear to be continuing their attentive service. Our newer service still has a way to go.

This is a really nice place for lunch or dinner for 1 or 10. There is nice bar seating around the kitchen and large community tables for larger parties! It's a really nice, warm, well lite space! We had a 6 olock reservation and the Restaurant was completely full but the middle of our dinner but wasn't too noisy or loud. We didn't have to yell to talk to one another.

I love that there is a daily menu. There are lots of great options and there is something for everything. We went for more vegetables. We have two salads, a pasta and fish. Everything was really tasty, fresh and light! The puntarelle salad we had was nice and it was finished with shaved tuna heart on top but it was a bit over dressed! The beets weren't that special but tasted good. The entrees however were excellent! Strozzapreti which was a sauce of squash and pine nut and I'm not sure what else topped with cheese and it was amazing!!! Lots of depth of flavor and flavors that went so well together. It was cozy and delicious yet elegant. Then we had the sea bass which was perfectly cooked and paired with chick peas and sun chokes and citrus. Great flavor profiles there too!
The service was excellent as well! Our server was great!! Looking forward to going back again or dinner and brunch!

A perennial family favorite for us. A bit pricey for everyday, and now that we don't live nearby we save it for special occasions. Their Italian dishes are out of this world, both the comfort food and their more innovative creations. The pizzas are superb too. The wait staff knows the wine and beer lists and a sommelier is on hand if you need more info.

Reservations are generally necessary in our experience but you may get lucky as a walk-in.

The appetizers potions were so small, we all started laughing. The portions were too small for the price. The wine prices were higher than the top four dollar restaurants. It’s just too expensive for what they serve. The service was great and the people were nice.

Great service, wait staff very informed on menu ingredients and wine list. Quiet, but not dull, so easy to have conversations without shouting. Food great!

The food and service is reliably good here so I enjoy bringing colleagues here. The service is friendly and efficient so we were able to order and eat in a little over an hour. The room is bright and not noisy so we could converse easily.

The only downside is the parking in this neighborhood which has become worse as the area has developed. I would come more often otherwise.

There were six of us celebrating a birthday. Unfortunately they forgot about the birthday and brought a dessert with a candle after we had eaten our desert which was disappointing.

The service was exceptionally slow - we couldn't seem to get our waiter interested in taking our order - for entrees or dessert without tracking him down - and then the check took forever.

For those prices, I expect a higher level of service.

Three of us had a birthday lunch and we three first ordered the "Little Gems salad" which in the past has been great and perfectly dressed. Well, this time it was neither "Little Gems" nor well dressed at all. Hope they go back to the real thing.

We had a reservation and could see open tables yet were asked to wait 10+ minutes to sit down. When we sat down, it took an unreasonable amount of time for the waitress to offer water, a drink or discuss the menu. When we received the appetizer we only received part of the order because “the chef dropped part of it and they need to make it again”. We finished our glasses of wine with the appetizer and had to flag down the waitress to order another glass for our entrees. We asked for pepper for the pastas and it took 5 minutes for someone to come by with it. We asked to see the wine list and the person forgot so we had to ask someone else. We were almost finished with the entrees by the time they got around to bringing the second glass of wine (that was ordered before we were served our entrees). We both had gastrointestinal distress the 24 hours following the meal. I would not eat here again.

Delicious food, attentive and helpful service...never disappointing. I have been eating in this restaurant since it opened as a small eatery some years ago. It has expanded down the street from where it began, and it has only gotten better, and better! I always recommend as one of my favorite spots in San Francisco. (I have lived in San Francisco for over 30 years)

Still a fave. I have now been to this restaurant at least a dozen times and have never been disappointed. Always love the creative seasonal foods as well as the old standards. Tried a pickled tomato appetizer this time that was surprisingly yummy. Soups are always good too. The service is always great and I always enjoy the restaurant's vibe. Highly recommend.

A wonder meal. Finally tried it after living on Potrero Hill for 30 years. Delightful and best seafood squid ink spaghetti ever. This from someone who eats out in SF and worldwide often for 40 years. Best house made fennel sausage. This will be our weekly Italian dining room after Aperto on 18th and Connecticut closed 3 May this ago. Would recommend this to anyone who appreciates finely prepared and creative food.
